I wonder if anyone is still interested in this game, specially since most of it's basic game mechanics is similar to Eve but the payment model will change next month.

http://blog.perpetuu...-something-new/

Perpetuum has been struggling to get enough players for a working sandbox with the subscription model and has resorted to one time payment method starting next month on the 2nd April.  Perpetuum will cost just shy of $30 and it's yours, no further subscription will be required.

I used to play this game due to it's similarities to Eve, and some of it's different features felt like the old Eve though much easier to get into, so I will check this out again, hope this new payment model and Steam launch, might change it's lack of popularity.

On Steam launch Developer's are expecting the highest surge of players since the game was released in 2010, which will be announced on 2nd April.

Note: Those that have played this game for 3 months or more in the past will get the game free!

Maybe I should give the trial a go before they launch on steam to see if I like it or not... been undecided about it for a while.

Nice to hear from you again Saxxon.

I started out in that Corporation, but all leaders left all of a sudden without a trace, I kept wondering what might have happened.

One of the most organised groups I ever played with.

Huh.  That actually makes the game worth playing, I think.  It is interesting, and you can get involved in group activities, but the game play isn't all that exciting, so a monthly subscription (to me) wasn't worth it.  One good thing about the game is that even from day one it ran pretty smoothly.  I don't recall having any issues with game breaking bugs at all.  It's been awhlie though. :-)

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

If you can't kill it, don't make it mad.

Thats a blast from the past.  I quite enjoyed the year I spent in Perpetuum (right after launch).  Of course, being a Care Bear, I stayed in the PvE islands. ^^  They always seemed like a dedicated group of people, I'm happy they are still around.  I may have to check out the game later in April.

Interesting. I've got my eye on this.

However, I had only played for 2 months. If I have to spend 30 instead of the difference of one month, I'll need to see vast improvements in this game since I left

It's the sad state of the genre. The next big title has as many threads discussing issues with it's business model than issues with the game itself.

When Perpetuum Online was first talked about i was super excited that it might be the realization of a BattleTech online.

Lets be serious here, the new player experience is abysmal, it is so jarring it makes EvE's new player experience seem like WoW. You have to have basic ideas communicated well in order to gather more new players. If starting out in the game is so complicated and so convoluted, well new players will not stick around to try it out and stay to enjoy it longer than 1 day.

I am super excited that there is a new wave of sandbox MMO's, and no i do not need to be hand held like WoW and other Themeparks have perpetuated as of late, but there has to be a simply balance between the two. Until Sandbox games start to take into consideration how steep the learning curve is, they will never take off like a Themepark can.

I am pretty excited to retry the game, but i am hoping that what the consider a better new player experience actually is a serious re-do of what they had in the beginning.

I enjoyed playing Perpetuum when it was initially released. However, both Perpetuum and Eve Online are starting to look very dated compared to the upcoming games Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen. (The central problem is that Eve Online and Perpetuum cannot update their content / engine quickly enough to compete)

The big change / difference is that modern technology is moving on from a 3rd person perspective to a 1st person perspective.

1st person perspective requires a more modern graphics engine / computer and gives you greater immersion. Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen will both be 100% Oculus Rift compatible.

The ONLY 2 reasons why you would want to select Perpetuum and Eve Online over Star Citizen or Elite: Dangerous is if:

1) you really wanted to partake in battles of hundereds or thousands of players (happens in Eve Online, only in theory in Perpetuum because not that many play it);

2) you have lots of friends in Eve Online or Perpetuum who want to stay there.

However, I think the advantages of Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen will outweigh the advantages of Eve Online and Perpetuum.

The new player experience has been updated, recently so that it's ready for steam launch.

If you sub for one month before april 2 you'll get the lifetime version of the game. So if you wanna have it, I rec getting it. Way cheaper then 30 bucks after april 2.

And to any1 else that thinks of testing this little hidden gem. I suggest do a trial before april 2. Soon they they will also reset the gamma islands (the islands that  players can terraform on), so interesting times ahead. Sure it has alot of similar things to EVE, but with their own unique twist like controlling your bot in battle, and using the enviroment to get outa LOS etc. PVP in Perp beats EVE all days of the week in my book. Another great thing is that you can buy boosters to get the EP/XP 50% faster and thx to this get into the game faster and also close the gap to the games vets. Something that EVE also should take after. And then they have the terraforming as well etc. And I rather see more games taking after EVE then WoW and all them themepark crap games. Personal opinion there though.

Ah haha I appreciate the comment and I was left to run it alone pretty much. It was very difficult trying to run things and supply everyone using the socialist supply model we used and then when the Corp split between the safe areas and the pvp islands it became too much to balance and run by myself. I made everyone aware of the situation I thought before leaving.

It was a constant battle to explain to people how our system worked and greed kept a lot from giving their fair share and hording their own resources while expecting the Corp to still supply them and provide replacements for combat losses.

You couldn't beat free bots for everyone, but everyone had to contribute and it was a struggle being in command alone.

I probably have 20 high end robots in my inventory still.

Just make sure that it says that you've paid for 2 months of the game under account management then account status. See ya ingame. ;)
