I know it's not helping the issue, but geographically the eastern borders are at the Ural (the river and the mountains), so in a sense it's already released in Europe by mail.ru :)

2014 - when exactly? Ask XLGames as they are the ones driving regional release schedules.

If Trion wanted to release it last year, they couldn't as XL chose to do China and Russia first.

Notice how XL is focusing on ONE region at a time - and that is including Korean fixes for the game - because they don't have the same # of staff anymore (they downsized).

This idea that Trion is delaying the release is becoming pretty silly, when it's clearly XL that decided to do NA/EU launch after China and after Russia.

This was all covered in Scott Hartsman's interview.

http://archeagesource.com/topic/2345-whats-trion-been-up-to-with-archeage-heres-an-update-qa-with-scott-hartsman/

"It’s been a while since we’ve said anything about ArcheAge. What’s the hold up?\

I mentioned some of this in my last update on AA a few weeks ago in an MMO is insanely hard. To do it with four different locales lined up behind the initial launch is like doing it on insanely-hard mode, and the job XL has done so far with so many pressures has really been commendable.

While the time between signing and where we are now has also been frustrating for me as a gamer, as a producer I understand that it’s for the best. This is mostly for two reasons:
  • XL can only work on so many things at a time while they strive to constantly improve their live Korean service, and that’s necessitated them working on the partnered launches serially. Working on all the locales at once would have put them in a spot where they couldn’t succeed with any of them.
  • Our locale being where it is in the lineup (after Russia) means that we’ll be benefitting from a lot of what they’ve learned with both their native game as well as the locales in between.
The great news out of Russia this week, about the Russian closed beta beginning this December, does mean that XL will be able to return focus to Trion’s locales, which is very well timed -- It comes right as we’re able to talk a little about their incoming game improvements, which our version will be benefitting from by launching cleanly with them already in place.

Oh but go ahead and keep blaming Trion... /facepalm

I'm just gonna post what Melancholy posted over at AAsource.

We don't blame Trion for not having released the game yet. ArcheAge just hit CBT in Russia and Mail.Ru only had to translate the game to Russian. Every human being with a brain bigger than a peanut should understand that translating a game to three languages takes longer than translating a game to a single language.

We blame Trion for their incredibly retarded ignorance. Go check http://aa.mail.ru/news and see how many news, interviews, events, contests, lore information etc. Mail.Ru released since January 2013. It's 223 posts. Now go to http://www.archeagegame.com/en/news/. Three posts after almost a year of nothingness. All hail glorious Trion. Or maybe check community management of other upcoming AAA MMORPGs. ESO fans get an 'ask the devs' on a regular basis, there is 'Wildstar Wednesday' or the EQNext 'Round Table'. What did we get? Just the same generic phrases and promises over and over again.

Don't you see how their failure to care about their fans has poisoned the community? So many fansites already ceased to exist because people lost interest and the remaining ones are struggling to keep their team members motivated. Or go check the size of Russian guilds: http://aa.mail.ru/guild. The 'biggest' EU/NA guilds are even losing many of their two dozens of members. The community is bleeding dry and even the most passionate people who have put so many effort in making the community what it is are losing hope. How blind can someone be to still not realize that all this is a huge piece of bullcrap, and it is all of Trions fault.

The same thing would be happening to Russian guilds if XL chose to do NA/EU before Russia, there'd be a ton of info and stuff going on here and zero over in Russia.

What is Trion going to talk about when their hands are tied?

Talk about how they have to wait for Russia and China first... yeah that's gonna go over well.

Hyping a game that wasn't going to launch in 2013 would be even worse IMO.

...riiight, so trion is the publisher but XL is doing all the work, or the majority of the work.  Ya why they need trion again then?

All this hate against Trion!

I´m with DMKano on this, Trion Worlds is an amazing gaming company and they´ll do their best to deliver AA to you guys. So please stop complaining and bitchin around.

XLGAMES is the worst company on earth, Trion Worlds can do NOTHING against it when XLGAMES is telling them to be silent!

Just sit down and be patient, this game will come soon!

Most gamers don't because it is so much more than simple translating

1. Transliteration is the first step (example you translate all Korean words to English, the sentence structure and grammar is a mess as you are simply translating every word)

2. Translation - you make it coherent (correct sentence structure, grammar etc...)

3. All the voiceovers need to be redone for all NPCs, and all cutscenes

4. Change cultural things that make sense in Korea, but make no sense to a western player (these may require code changes)

5. Check for consistency in names and terms (Use the same terms in the same context for example if you use "Pine" as a crafting material in recipe X, don't call it "Pine wood" in resource gathering....)

Now do the above for every language (Trion is doing 3 languages)

And that is just the localization work - on the technical side, the game has to be integarated with Trion's account and billing systems, also every region uses their own Patching system, Chinese, russian and Trion's patchers are all different.

I've missed a bunch of stuff I'm sure - it's a TON of work.

Unless you want to play a game where the quests are "Tim, wellness met, but sad, happiness walked up. Trees sad. Two trees please, thank you."

You can please some MMO-players all of the time and you can please all MMO-players some of the time but you can't please all MMO-players all of the time.

If things went differently after WW2 and most of Europe spoke Russian, you'd have a point.

The problem is the vast majority of EU can't speak Russian nor read Cyrillic

Unfortunatelly not, my friend. Moscow is not part of the EU. I dont see a point in why all countries on the world are not yet in ONE union, but hey .. the future looks good we might get there. Atm it's oldschool and not the case until all the old paradigms die out.
