In no particular order:

WoW - Bored of the world, seen it all. It's a fantastic game and anyone who hasn't tried it needs to. But I'm done with it.

EQ2 - Was never as good as WoW, and now it's F2P it just seems dated and the UI is ugly.

AoC - Loved this game when it came out. Got to around lvl 60 but the latter content in the game was a buggy mess on launch. Went back when the game went F2P but realised it's a fairly boring game

Aion - Seemed great at first but then became a real grind around lvl 30. I don't particularly like the art style. The flying with wings thing(and only in certain places) was also a bit dumb

GW2 - Almost perfect but the level scaling is both a great idea and a terrible one. Unfortunately for me it's more terrible than great. If i'm honest the combat also gets old after a while. Too simple maybe?

LotRO - Such a dull game. I really want to like this as I love the IP, but the game is just so boring.

Vanguard - Has a lot of great concepts and deep gameplay but it looks dated and no one plays it, despite everyone recommending it!

Tera - Don't like the art style. Questing is boring

Rift - Great game but the world is boring. Nothing memorable about the zones.

Neverwinter - Hate the instancing and linear feel. If this was an open world game it would be amazing

Swtor - Fun while it lasted. Not much to do end game. Linear questing and progression

FFXIV - Hate the art style. Still feel awkward to play. The game is crying out for some voice acting.

Allods Online - Currently playing this. Visually its exactly like WoW although slightly better quality graphics. Controls need tightening up but other than that it seems decent. Very pretty game!

WoW: bored to death. Horrible community

EQ2: Got boring before end game.

EQ1: When you couldn't find a Group you couldn't play. Semi nice community.

Daoc: buffbots sucks and too elitish unfrinedly playerbase. US players racist to EU's..

Lotro: Gets boring before endgame.

DDO: It sucks big time, instanced zones and laughable combat.

Tera: Played it for a couple of hours. Sucks mega.

Eve online: Traveling takes forever and learning curve is steep.

Lineage2: Buy adena or suck

TSW: Graphics sucks they look dated for a new game and combat is messed up. The investigation quests sucks.

GW2: At lvl 13 couldn't find any more quest areas and the lvl 16 quests area was too hard. Mega failure.

Warhammer: The pve was boring and the pvp unbalanced. Horrible player community.

SWG: Bland Worlds and 0 players.

SWTOR: Extrememly boring and cliche for a SW game. Tries to be WoW with the movies but combat and movement sucks. Stories are dull and cliche.

WAR: Least balanced classes of all-time. (All hail the ascended gods that were brightwizards.) And pvp was extreamly shallow and meaningless.

SWTOR: Boring classes, boring mechanics, just a generally boring game.

LOTRO: This one is 2 parts, the default game was simply uninteresting and boring. Then there was the PVMP gamemode, which mechanics wise was some of the most fun I've had in mmos. Plus you got to play as a giant spider and eat hobbits and elves. Sadly this was ruined by HORRIBLY unbalanced gameplay, with monsters equaling 1/4 of a human player, and to top it off monsters were outnumbered greatly. So it was only playable at odd hours when the numbers came into playable quantities. Oh and lazy as f*ck developers.

Eve: This one I still go back and play a few times each year for a month or two. Sadly the game just isn't designed for people not in several thousand player strong mega alliances, and I prefer smaller group oriented play.

Perpetuum: Very low playerbase, and my friends all quit. Otherwise it's a masterpiece that people just can't seem to appreciate. Beats eve in almost every area that it does and does it better.

All F2P (Free to pay) games: Low quality/Pay2win enough said.

Any Asian mmo: Oh dear god... let's see... Child Porn Siimulators. Weapons the size of a schoolbus being wiedled effortlessly by prepubescent children. Very gender confused protagonists. And Anime art styles. Along with another two of three dozen issues.

Tera: I actually really liked this one, great combat, cool looking classes, great class mechanics, and it didn't hurt that I met a great bunch of people to play with in this one that were always playing and having a blast in voice chat. I don't miss the game that much now, but man do I miss those people now. :( Anyway the reason I quit was that I hit levelcap and did all the content, then found out the grind and difficulty hit the roof. I rarely EVER complain that a mmo had ANY content that was too hard, but Tera did, if you wanted the endgame gear you had to do some of the most absurdly hard stuff in a videogame. You needed robots working in tandem perfectly to do it. And even then there was a chance of considerable failure. This game dubbed the difficulty term of "Asian Jedi Difficulty" Not seen since the days of battletoads on the NES. Fortunitely this was only the last dungeon in the game. (Mayana's Core hard mode I think it was) So I only missed out on 1% of the game, so no real loss.

Been several years since I got my hands on a genuinely good mmo now. I've pretty much stopped playing them now, and just check in to see if some non-crap is being made down the road.

JeroKane: In TSW your gear has NO stats whatsoever! But only via trinkets and talismans.

Myself: Please, stop posting, I can't breath I'm laughing so hard at that statement.

Sliders is a single player game mechanic. When in groups, sliders make a difference, though I did enjoy CoH's use of them for the indoor (instanced) missions. But then, it was a group decision. Would not work with today's self-centered playerbase. Nobody else cares if I play D3 or Skyrim on easy or ultra-hard mode. They would care if they grouped with me in an MMO.

Hmm .. they would. You have the same difficulty level in a D3 group game.

Can a player who has done the easy mode only group with a player on nightmare mode?

Yes. And you have to choose the same MP levels too.

That sounds quite a bit different from accepting a group invite in an MMO to find the group is playing on easy mode instead of your preferred hard mode (or vice versa), isn't it?

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I've pretty much quit all MMMOs, playing only for short bursts here and there with significant content/expansion material (most recently the instant level 85 in Everquest 2.)

I really can't stand most games "community". I'll co-op, multiplayer with friends and thats about the extent anymore. Too old to waste my time with entitled, self-absorbed and immature brats.

Interesting tip on Allods.  Haven't played it in ages.  Sounds like it's worth another look.

In no order and there are a lot more than this but its just a revolving door of the same issues, PvP problems, cheats or terrible CS

Lineage 2: L2walker/Radar/NCwest

WoW: Which time? Countless times usually direction of the game or its I've done it all.

Aion: Faction imbalance/RvR

EQ: Wasn't my cup of tea

EQ2: Wasn't my cup of tea

FFXI: Needed PvP with my grind

RFO: Codemasters

Lotro: Mediocre outside of the epic quest

DDO: I didn't get the purpose

WAR: Wasn't the PvP champion it was supposed to be

AoC: Didn't grab me in the early levels

GW2: PvP wasn't what I was hoping for, unbalanced factions and meaningless

Tera: The controls just didn't feel natural to me

Lineage 1: Aged

Rift: PvP was terrible never went back after the first month

FFXIV: A joke of a game

FFXIV ARR: TBD

1.D3 - Played 2 weeks, finished normal difficulty, bored to play the same content in higher lvl dificulty.

->too easy, boring and no movtivation to continue.

2.L2- Played 5 years. NO... game was not such great.. As a matter of fact especially after it became f2p it was full of bots(much much more than before), scripts, cheaters in general, adena sellers, extremely annoying spam from RMT that makes you disable all kind of chat options, p2w system, bad service from NCSoft,  incompetant to fix the bot/ cheating problem or maybe pretending those cheaters in game don't exist as far they have fat wallets and make ncsoft rich, Lindvior update which made the things to gear up for new players just a dream. In conclusion the game as it is now, does not bring new players, only cheaters...

BUT, I played it 5 years because I made good friends and I enjoyed its pvp (at least vs legit players). As soon as your firends start leaving the game you have no reason to continue too. So yes , good comunity in my opinion is the most important thing that can keep you in game.

3.GW2- currently playing but to be honest i am bored of it in 1 month of playing. Too easy and if you don't like the pvp system it has, you have nothing to do after getting 80 lvl. I would prefer a pvp system like L2 has, open world pvp with wars between clans etc and not pvp  vs other servers with a story mode (capture keeps, towers , castles, etc). Free pvp and everywhere vs other players, thats the one i like.

4. I am waiting for Archeage release in Europe. Yes .. I have read about some new content (cars, ability for players to edit pictures from real world etc) which make me lose my interest a bit... but still I want to give it a try.

They loose the ZING, I play and play hard to get to that achievement or new armor, mount or weapon. And to be near the top of the crop, If I fall behind it looses its fun, No fun when others already found all the NEW things. To me its this new feeling of accomplishment that keeps me playing.

Not different than choosing LFR, normal or hard mode raid, or choosing normal or heoric dungeon. You choose your difficulty BEFORE going into the dungeon.

I got sick of throwing so much money and time into the things, only to have the devs break them (SWG's NGE) or close them (CoH).  I see this problem getting worse in the future.  Not better.

I've played a LOT of the major ones over the years and lots of reasons to go around.

But the major one for me is I consider myself an old school MMORPG gamer. Main reason most these days I quit is you breeze through the content extremely fast, at the end everyone has the same thing and no feel of being able to stand out.

Easier to say what I loved on MMORPGs before to see why I quit most these days fairly fast. I loved group play where like it when solo play is non rewarding and very tedious and at times near impossible. MMORPGs to me are like D&D where you should have a decent sized group (maybe 6) of mixed adventures to fulfill the roles needed. To progress it takes time and getting gear takes time. Your not upgrading gear every few hours of playtime, or even every few days even mid level ranges. The cool gear is HARD and RARE and stands out. Its a status symbol. But key is leveling to max should at quickest take a full month of hardcore playing/grinding by skilled players. For your average your talking a few months for your casual who plays 3-4 hours a day. If its a co-op based game as 99% are then that should be the balance. PVP should just be a sidegame and not meant to be balanced. Certain class's do better and so worse.... but its a team effort. I also loved their being a server community with reputations on your character. You were an ass and no one wanted you. You were skilled and everyone wanted you. I loved how crafting to max wasn't an easy thing and not many managed it but top end it had good rewards.

These days you solo to max level. Your upgrading your gear constantly so why bother grinding for really cool shit as you level. At max level everyone has the same uber leet gear and everyone is raiding the top stuff as its rarely a challenge besides a very low stupidity/lag check and a gear check. Everyone expects instant gratification because they are maxed out even though most games you could max level in less then a week and within 2 weeks be in the best gear the game has to offer.

I played EQ and DAoC especially for a LONG time because it as if it was an accomplishment to level. It was an accomplishment to gear high end gear. You could build yourself a reputation as an adventurer or crafter on your server. But now with all the cross server crap and queues rather then making your own group just a bunch of strangers who IF lucky say *hi* when it starts and *thx* when over. No community.

I remember trying to go back to EQ2 after I had to quit due to real life reasons. Tried coming back 1 1/2 years later and game had gone downhill FAST from being a solid and great game at start (course yes plenty of bugs) to being much more candied. Everyone loved it for a bit but maxed their toons and gear and moved on quickly. Now games mostly dead.

No challenge. LOL.

Go quest in a level 15 region at level 10. That's pretty challenging.

Do a 5-man instance that is several levels below your character on normal, then do it again on heroic. You'll find that damn challenging.

Try leveling a character to max without ever doing a quest, dungeon, or raid.

Play the game without gear. People like Bachus are always yammering on about how skilled they are. Let's see it.

Play a character with the weakest race/class/specialization build.

Should I go on?

Point is, many players today want challenge force-fed to them. It's pure laziness.

Either that or they are incapable of being creative and making their own fun.

Oh, this absurd argument.  How about you play while drunk, with distorted blown up resolution, and while only using your pinky fingers too?

What attracts players to difficult challenges in MMOs is the competitive nature of such games.  The game establishes numerous challenges that become mutually understood by the community.  Then, when players complete some of these challenges, they are issued rewards, or symbols of their accomplishments.  Players are driven to complete these challenges not just because they're fun in their own right (and they should be), but because of the rewards they will earn by completing them - gear, mounts, titles, achievements, skins, unlocked areas, etc.  Earning this stuff and showing it off is what makes the challenges worthwhile.  Meanwhile, nobody gives a fuck if you leveled from 1-30 naked while only grinding mobs and not completing any quests.  Surmounting arbitrary barriers you placed in front of yourself sounds immensely unsatisfying.

Secondly, adding artificial barriers to arbitrarily manufacture difficulty farts in the face of one of the most fundamental components of RPGs and MMOs: progression.  Players are given a mission in these games to become as powerful as possible relative to the content they face throughout every step of their journey.  You're saying players should completely compromise one vital part of their game in order to "creatively" generate their own arbitrary difficulty?  That's absurd.

Sounds like a lot of people in this thread just need to quit MMOs totally. It is obvious you are never going to like any of them.

Yep.

I don't really have the time to get involved socially in a game, spend time playing for hours, meeting new people and forming strong bonds in guilds in order to do things like raiding, competitive PvP.

So I like hop in, hop out gameplay. I have even got to the point where having a 20-30 minute uninterrupted play session is becoming more and more rare.

I always feel like if I have to go AFK in a dungeon run, I am being a burden on the other people in my group. So I prefer solo play or very small group play with friends/family.

For that reason, I've generally been sticking to single player games, games with short "match" type play, and co-op style small party play like console multiplayer or something like Diablo 3.

I also don't have time to wait for 20-30 minutes to find a group or have the patience anymore to wipe over and over on an encounter.

As much as I worry about being a burden on others, I don't have the patience for less-skilled players who are a burden on me.

ESO might be the next MMO I pick up, just cause it's on console, but I'm more looking forward to games like Destiny and The Division which seem a lot more "MMO lite" and just straight up fun/engaging games.

Because I am looking for mmorpg which has all this:

Awesome graphics (something like ffxiv or better)

Seemless world

Hard Holy Trinity (tank - heal/support - dps/ccs)

Long term / grindy and hard end-game (not casual friendly everything like wow has)

Subscription based

There is no such mmorpg atm .. so yea, we will see what Wildstar, TESO, EQ or AA has :)

If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.

I'm gonna try to give a hint without sounding too nasty...

But what was wrong there was not the game... it was you.

My computer is better than yours.
