I'm expecting the OP to return saying they gave the game another chance and fell in love with it. I was a little disappointed at first but after giving it another chance there isn't another MMO I'd rather play.

Hmm loads of classic (meaning "good") FF games work the same way. So do (IIRC) the various Mass Effect, The Witcher and a score of great games. Now, it would be cool to be able to move without invisible walls, but the truth is the rest of the game compensates for this. AND I love not being able to fall in teh sea while I am fishing :)

But dropping a game that has 30 days of game time after 10 minutes for a reason like this is a bit silly, you never know if you gonna end up liking something that you hated at the beginning

ok.

That reason right there would make me quit, I didn't know that until now, I guess I will skip this game.

Just an FYI - there ARE cliffs you can fall from. I've fallen from a few to my death, provided I had less than maximum health upon falling. Maximum fall damage appears to be maximum HP -1.

Aaaaannnnddd I'm going off-topic...

So far I'm loving the game. Level 45 bard, 15 pugilist, 15 conjurer, 10 arcanist. Still plenty to experience and incorporate into my play time. Really the biggest seller for me are the classes/jobs and the overall dynamics of the "Holy Trinity" present in the game. Though it is still early and I truly hope SE has some serious content and adjustments lined up for us, I'm getting the Final Fantasy vibe I initially wanted from the game and will sub.

FATEs (public quests) need to be adjusted, revised, or removed. Something, I don't know what off the top of my head, but their current role in the game is far more detrimental to immersion than the invisible walls present, IMHO. I strongly feel that the time (admittedly not much) spent designing FATEs should've instead been invested in more dungeons/guildhests/focused group activities. Running FATEs to level additional classes is indeed a problem that needs to be corrected for the longevity and 'personality' of the game. As things stand now, FATEs are the epitome of a boring grind. Yes, grinds can still be entertaining - I for one loved camping an area in EQ and grinding out some experience points with a small group of like-minded individuals who relied on each other to make the group work effectively.

Really, we must ask ourselves - what's more important? - a seamless, non-instanced world... or enthralling group dynamics/involving game-play. Final Fantasy XIV, to me, leans more towards the latter, though regrettably falls short with FATEs. I've yet to reach the 'end game' content so my word is only worth so much, but I really believe a strong foundation has been set with the re-release of FFXIV and look forward to further developments despite certain misgivings.

If you want this you wont play MMO at all. Any MMO.

MMOs are about world and immersion and your character in that world. Remove that and all you really have left is just a bad boring extremely repetitive game.

Its like I was playing a demo. I went to the end of the cliff and I realised I could not fall or slide down it. So I followed the cliff while admiring the sea view and even when I got to the bridge that is about 1 foot above the sea shore I still couldn't jump in.

Too limited for me.  I've not come across this in all mmos I've played. Really really sad shame it's full of invisible walls where you least expect them.

Sounds like you're pissed for lashing out the money on a game which you didn't take time to look into. We've all been there ;)

I think it has alot of immersion in other ways like the weather affects and physics.

Sure it's true that most games to date have some sort of invisibe walls and this does not automatically make them bad games but it's also true that they are massive immersion breakers. Usually the walls are some sort of mountain or sea but when it's all too apparent then it's even worse.

RPG's haves always been about immersion in the world and the charachter you play not just MMO's, GTAV has more immersion than most MMO's. No matter how you look at it every game is repetitive in its own way.

The concept of wanting to play a theme park memo and explore has always seemed redundant and ridiculous to me. Its true games like wow have a vast world but with little to see other than mediocre scenery and even less to do in the exploration of it. A vast open world without the sandbox content to back it up is simply trivial in my mind. I have no interest in exploring a world I cannot interact with in a meaningful way. It seems like a waste of time both on a development level and as a player. An open sandbox world you can interact with is another story, however I have yet to play a sandbox memo that I truly enjoyed. Just my cent and a half.

With this logic, MMORPGs shouldn't even bother with pretty graphics and should stick back to the 8-bit sprite trees and foliage because what is the use of pretty scenery if I can't touch it or interact with it. In fact, why can't we just fight a boss in a white box shaped room because it seems like it's just a waste of the developer's time to make settings that aren't the focal point of the game.

Would anyone play this game? It's like if the Lord of the Ring series didn't have its pages upon pages of scenic expositions and got straight to the part where Frodo dropped the One Ring into Mount Doom.

FF14's world is bland without this immersive quality, and worse if you factor in the terrible side-quest design.

You would have saved alot of money if you just played any of the other 16 or so other Final Fantasy games at some time.

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising?

The starting zone is very weak, small, confusing, too many invisible walls. But it opens up as you get further, you will have to give it more than 10 minutes to get out in the open areas. But I agree , I didn't enjoy the clusterphobic starting zone either. If you already brought the game you might as well give it a few more hours and not ten minutes. Watch the Tour video that was posted, the areas get much larger as you progress. I never bought it or subbed, just played beta.

Played all the way to lvl 50 and i disagree that zones open up. There are invisible walls everywhere. For explorer like me that is a deal breaker. The only thing kept me going was the class system and my FC. But world is bland and dead with no sense of adventure.

I cancelled my sub today...a month was enough time for me to make my decision (and tolerate this mediocre game). So i certainly didn't rush. I came to same conclusion as OP even though he played only for 10 minutes.

Its much better than it was in ff14 1.0, back then you had to go around ant hills or 3" drops

Is this your first MMO ?

So I spent £40 to go and find reasons to hate a game.? Get real.

For me personally having come from EQ, lotro and wow this seems a downgrade.  I was excited about it read good reviews but I can't play in a shoe-box environment in a MMO RPG.

Sandbox? Nope it's a shoebox.

Im sure if its your first MMO you don't mind these issues.

I agree

I agree with the OP. The game is just not up to standard in many aspects.

I've played up to lvl 50, tried other classes and crafting, and I've concluded the game is just not good enough for me.

Cancelled my sub today aswell.
