I'm sorry but XIV is not a damn good game at all, it's bland and there are far better titles out there.

This post reads more like a shill advertising than an actual player.

This game has none of the depth of older MMOs, as another poster said, the only currently active game for MMO vets is EVE. Sure the older games are still running, but their UIs and performance are well below par these days.

For those of us who prefer fantasy themes, we will probably have to wait for Pathfinder or something for that old school depth.

Oh please tell me what old mmo's had more depth? They were all pretty damn straight forward. I also love how the game plays, people with slow or no reaction speed will still be a detriment to their group members and themselves.

Also saying EVE is the only game for MMO vets is ridiculous. I don't enjoy EVE and find FFXIV more my cup of tea currently. Granted I'm more PvP oriented, so if the PvP falls thru then I'll inevitably move on.

SWG had far more depth.... If you need I can explain...

I'm an MMO vet and I didn't find the game to be good at all.  TBH, I have never found the initial areas quite as boring in any MMO.

But I'm glad you found something you enjoy.

Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros

I will say, this rendition of FF XIV is a WELL MADE GAME.  A "good" game is subjective,  and I recently just bought it and have been playing it,  but to be honest, it feels tremendously traditional.   I think some things are a little more confusing then they should be,  and when you start a new character, you really are forced into a path if you want to do things.. "correctly".

It doesn't mean I'm not having a good time,  but I will say its one of those things where you get to max level - maybe across all the classes and professions - and then you smile as you log out until theres an update or a level increase.

Don't know why this was geared at MMO vets,  as a "vet"  I didn't find anything particularly special that will make me sub after the first month.

A lot of good it did that game.

Anyhoo if we're going off that era it is also saying FFXI, L2, EQ2, WoW had depth.. many will agree/disagree with any of these selections. So more or less nothings changed, opinions are opinions and people see what they want to see.

But hey explain how SWG had far more depth.

In FFAXIV they can chat all the time, troll each other , pay no attention half the time and still finish a dungeon without any problem. This can only be possible because that game's combat must be very slowpaced and easy. Defined holy trinity classes helps with that too ofc. And that silly GCD.

Then there is the questhubs, fetch quests and complexity through obscurity. So no thanks.

It looks nice though. But nice graphics isn't enough to make me want to play a game.

Can you link the video you are refering to?

Furthermore, you only care about combat in a MMORPG, right? Story and economy doesn't matter to you, right?

Bet they weren't doing hard mode titan or any of the other hard mode primals, or AK for that matter. In fact I bet it was a below lvl 30 dungeon.

Paid my $30, played a marauder to just over level 10 and played around with fishing, cooking and smithing.

I'll simply say, I did not like the game at all and don't plan to log in again.

Too many invisible walls.

Too many squeaky sounds.

I hate how the tooltip bar is so large when you mouse over the attacks, if you are a clicker then this is really annoying.

The maps are confusing, no need to be this bad.

Way too many loading screens.

The one thing I like about the game is the hunting log.

Yes I only played the first levels, but it was truly horrible, very happy to go back to my Lotro.

Playing: ESO
Also played/worth mentioning: UO, WoW, Lineage2, Lotro, Darkfall, TSW

The game has its problems, that much is certain.  However, I can't stop the urge from logging in, clicking the < insert crafting class here >, and then spending the next few hours crafting.

I haven't had this desire to login and play a game for quite a while.

Crafting in this game is indeed an addiction...err, I mean a way of life! :)

Filler side quests need to die. The main story quest and main job quest line is fantastic, every other side quest is garbage. Just like every otehr mmorpg need to let them die.  Replace sidequests with giving experience by doing other things outside of "questing and fates".  The most ridiculous thing in the world is when the game treats you as a Hero who saved the world but you have to kill ten rats because the guards dont want to do their duties.

I'm assuming these quests are the same for everyone, do decisions affect how they progress or is the ending always the same. If it's the same how am I developing my character, will I not be the same as everyone else? Story quest lines should not be part of an MMO, they should be left in SPRPGs unless your decisions along the way effect how you progress. Filler quests are fine as it gives you some money and exp but they need to do away with the '!' over the head. Just send you to a central location where you can grab what you need from a clerk behind a desk, or a mission terminal. When you outlevel a zone the clerk tells you to 'bog off' and go see his associate in the next town.

For the main story, the only difference is your starting city and grand company.  Those have totally separate arcs, that still lead to the main arc.  Your choice is still directed, but you could arguably roll 3 characters and experience 3 separate "mini" stories for the City and GC.
