MMOs are to big to quick over invis walls. If your that picky your going to miss a lot of really good games and fun times.

Hmmmmm

interesting although that is what I'm really into the raiding.

Is it really good like the good old days of wow and lotro ?

i might just forget the scenery and get to end game

Raiding and dungeons. Do you like dungeons? Myself I could live in dungeons and this game makes it worth doing so. Level 14-32 dungeons teach you how to play their game. From there is all about skill. Having a real trinity team that works together is needed. Classes that stand out for the skills they have to support a team. Dungeons are so well done that they teach raid mechanics. So i can see the people that stay will be able to do PUG raids in the end.

Also the crafting is the best I have played in any MMO. Real crafters love this game. It takes skill and you really get to tinker and feel like you really are making something. I have only seen this high quality of game 3 times in my years of MMOing. EQ1, WoW, DAoC and now FF14. Get past level 30 in your Job (not class) and you will see it too.

Read the first few pages of the forum, the endgame is one of the worst things about this game lol

Forums are filled with haters. Ask guilds and player in game and you will see why every server is full and has a short Q at prim times. You have to take forums with a grain of salt as this is where people always come to cry and yell. Most happy people dont have much to say as they just wana go play.

Too limited for me.  I've not come across this in all mmos I've played. Really really sad shame it's full of invisible walls where you least expect them.

Nobody cares. Move along. Its like you date a girl, you like her...everyone around you pretty much likes the girl but you: NO, i dont like the girl because "Insert dumb reason here". Screw those walls dude...and date the girl.

Only invisible walls I have ran across are ones that if they weren't there you would be dead (since you cant swim...large deep bodies of water). Other than that I've jumped over everything. Sometimes it doesn't work to good over some rails and bridges but it wasn't cause of an invisible wall , lets just say this isn't a Mario game, FF14 wasn't made for jumping puzzles.

Now you might think why not just let us die if we do it. Well I do know that unlike in the West, Asia has a high suicide rate from Jumping off high places and suicide has a different stigma than how we view it in the west.  Ive never tried it but someone said the highest damage you can get from falling is 99% your health, don't know if that is true.

This isn't a mario game ? It's an MMO it should have a huge immersive world like all the other mmos.

It might be a good game but it's the same as other mmos..with less open environment it seems to me. So I might as well just carry on playing WoW.

I can't see the swap to be made being benificial if the world is all closed off. you can't even go in caves

Yeah Ive quit mmos in 5 minutes because I couldnt map the toggle auto run to one of my mouse buttons. Some stuff is just a deal breaker right off the bat. I hope you find a new mmo you can get into :)

If you fall from a really high place you are left with 1hp. Jumped a few times from the towers in Coerthas to save some time :p

Is this your first MMO ?

So I spent £40 to go and find reasons to hate a game.? Get real.

For me personally having come from EQ, lotro and wow this seems a downgrade.  I was excited about it read good reviews but I can't play in a shoe-box environment in a MMO RPG.

Sandbox? Nope it's a shoebox.

Im sure if its your first MMO you don't mind these issues.

i would rather have a believable looking world that has some walls and instances vs an "open world" that is just miles and miles of mspaint generated graphics. to each his own.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

I agree 100% my man. Coming from WoW, Rift, LoTRo.. Big, open worlds.. This just feels like a serious downgrade. I'm sure on console this game is very fun, but as far as PC gaming.. Many, many better titles to choose from, that are free as well. The game is your basic themepark MMORPG, that's nothing new. But as far as I'm concerned, the size of the world, a long with the TERRIBLE end-game, is enough to keep me out of it all in all. Haven't bothered trying it. Played for a few minutes on a buds PC.. nothing new.

Someome said it earlier it lacks immersion. I couldn't even walk or jump over a gate to the ledge below. Too restricted in an open world . Sadly.

But you can usually jump to a ledge below, the only time that you cannot jump to a ledge below is if it is either 1. Going to kill you from the fall, or 2. it has nothing underneath you. I've been able to jump over every fence to an area below as long as something was there to fall onto, other than jumps that would obviously kill you.

Well, I can't speak for EQ or WoW but if you are holding up LOTRO as a game with freedom and few invisible walls I will say that you either didn't get far into the game or are trolling.

LOTRO is lousy with invisible walls, meshes that have large invisible boxes where you think you can get around but you can't, cliffs that you can't jump off or that it looks like you can jump off but you die a few feet in even though you can jump off other places much higher and not get a point of damage and ruins and caves where you can't enter unless you are on the appropriate quest.

I understand and agree that invisible walls suck but let's not hold LOTRO up as a good example.

[mod edit] Invisible walls in a MMORPG released in 2013 is just unacceptable and is one of the reasons I'm not trying this game.  World of Warcraft, a game released so many years ago gives the illusion of a free world so I see no reason a game wtih access to newer technology 10 years later can't.

I love this game but the invis walls are everywhere. Cant jump on desks, bars and sometimes not even on a rail of a bridge. Out in Drybone there is a huge divide with a bridge. It didnt feel like one because I knew I could not fall off it to my death. I walked up to the edge and did the running man and it did make the world feel smaller and less real. Does it mean I should unsub? Not if what FF14 does well is what I love more then exploration. If you are all about exploration then yes go unsub but you will be missing out on some of the best team/raid content I have played in 14+ years of MMOing. Everyone needs to pick what makes a game for them. IMO FF14 has a lot of what I want to keep me playing and I know there are many like me that feel the same way. Go find a game with no walls or that hides them better like WoW but I hope the rest of the game is as good as FF14 =-)

Oh please Everquest in 1999 had more of an open world, sure you had zone walls but nothing was stopping you from jumping off Kelethin to your death and it had actual water you could swim in. FF14's world is the equivalent of being strapped into a baby carseat. There are invisible safety walls everywhere. EQ, Lotro, and WOW all had hand made worlds with tons to explore I have no idea where your getting some mspaint generated graphics from. I remember how awesome it was to get mind controlled and jump into the lava inside Blackrock in WoW. The envoirment could hurt you and there were out of the way places to explore. Go from the Shire to Rivendale.

I get that for a lot of people this is an easy thing to overlook.

I also can see this from the point of someone who has played other MMOs with much better world design.

Personally I noticed it and rolled my eyes but not so much overlooked it as accepted the design limits. Thing is EQ did the world better design wise back in 1999. I mean come on...

All the other MMOs don't have huge immersive worlds. And huge world doesnt = Immersion. Ive been around MMOs for awhile and ive played some that had huge maps, some went vapor ware but a lot of em were just empty. SWG, while I liked the game and it needed a large world it wasnt very interesting. The whole idea that something has to be made the way I like it to be made is closed minded and egotistical. You dont like zoned worlds you like Open world design. Good for you.

I like large open worlds too but I value substance over quantity.

Maybe because I played EQ as a kid I dont mind zones if done well, Couldnt stand SWToR zoneing.  I hate Gridania cause you feel cramped but Ul'dah(home point) doesnt feel cramped but one is a forest theme the other is a desert theme.  Not just with map design but mob placement as well.

Limsa just feels foreign to me. Which for some reason ive been hooked on Culinary there(I know ive said I hate crafting but I dont know what happened) and it feels like im going abroad to learn cooking.

Ive been in Limsa for awhile and I actually miss hunting in Ul'dah.  But im more into hunting(finding new mobs to kill, which FF does very well) and combat; instead of exploring (which you seem to like, and FF lacks) ...........To each his own.

I had a similar feeling when first playing swtor. When I wen to Nar'shadaa (think that's it) I was absolutely blown away by the view as exited the station. I couldn't wait to explore the city. Then I found 80% of what I saw was unplayable. It seemed like I was being guided by pretty pictures.

I did the exact thing OP did when I tried Neverwinter. I could not have been more disappointed. I do not know if FF is to these extremes, but if it is, I completely understand.

Is it the same, better, or worse than swtor and neverwinter?
