Now I used to be a graphics nut! If the game wasn't made for 1600X1050 or higher I wouldn't bother. Now everything is in that or better.

I used to think that more realism made games better, until I saw how realism can also be a negative to the creative pallet of colors and imagination.

Gaming has come a long ways. There are still people who doubt the direction this game is taking. Even going so far as to try and point out imagined flaws before they even get a chance to try it out or even read a review of the game post release.

This game will push boundaries. It will knock down walls. It will mesh together things we have not seen before. This frightens some, makes other into doubters, but for me and many like me.....it might just be the game of choice for the next 5 yearsor longer  from release if all the mesh is done correctly.

#1378694764769674 saying a non released product is THE next big thing for 10.000 years to come.

You sir, are very vulnerable to hype.

The next big thing? So good it's frightening? Playable for the next five years? What a load of drivel. This has fallen off the radar for many. Disney graphics and gimmicks don't add up to the greatest MMO. Hype and fanbois aside, success or not will only be apparent after release. Free realms, their other kiddie game was hyped up to the teeth by Smedley as the future of online games - don't recollect that being a stunning success.

The term "Everyone" is very inclusive and definitive.  I don't think EQN is going to be for everyone.

It does sport many ideas and prototypes for a really good game, but ideas being shown, such as arcade bouncy combat are a bit of a turnoff for me.  Add to that the parkour movement.  I think the graphics style is good, and the Disney aspects are OK, too!

Everquest to me is more than what was shown.  What was shown is just boom boom eye-candy to appease the GW2 generation, but that is not what EverQuest was to me from it's launch in 1999.

Gaming has come a long ways, OP.  I enjoy the new ideas - I would like to see them actually implemented though!

It's free, so I'll try it sure.  But love it for 5+ years?  Umm erg /choke ... I think it's going to be great for the first month?

Well if Bethesda did a "Tamrial: the Elder Scrolls Online" and made it play the way Skyrim does...I'd say that might be the perfect MMO.   :)

How about we wait for SOE to make or release a decent game first, before crowning it God?

The last several efforts have been sub-par, at best.

The perfect mmo for everyone?

Not for me, at least not yet (and probably won't be), i still haven't seen most of the features the game offers, so far there are a few gameplay videos and tons of "promises and rumors". I want to see the whole picture before judging it.

Perhaps tomorrow will be better.

I can mention just ONE aspect to prove they are not about fun. They are going to LIMIT your character selection to 4 ,yes ONLY 4 choices. Then you get 4 choices from all the other classes, that is a very shallow selection if you ask me.

It is a far cry from FFXI sub class system and slightly worse than FFXIV.You know what is fun,LOTS of choice not 4>8,having people  hit the same icon over and over.

Now on the some of the other ideas,we simply must wait and see you cannot take their marketing sell job for it.Example building or digging into the ground might be very generic with one choice or no choice or few choices. You would need look at Minecraft to know what i am saying, there is limited choice in what you can use and what textures will look like.

If i am still not making sense, then think of digging into rock and all you see is the same single texture every time, that can get bland and boring after awhile.Lets say you get wood from a tree,is every wood texture going to look identical?

Then say some of the make your own stuff ideas,if you have to pay extra "cash shop" just to have that FUN,then it is hardly a fair marketing ploy.

I could mention many other aspects of the game, this is why i sort of close my eyes and shut off my ears when listening to sell jobs,i want to see for myself.I am not tossing money into Landmark,it is not even a game,it will be a gimmick to help fund the rest of the game.

They're not actually paying the players for that.  They just pay the players for making cash shop content.  World building you get to do for free.

You're wrong. Want to think about it yourself, or have me do the math for you?

30 vanilla classes.  You choose 4 skills based on the weapon you're using (one of 2), so and another 4 skills from any of the other classes  you have.  Even if each class only had 4 non-weapon based skills to choose from that's more combinations that FFRR has.

Meanwhile, all of that sounds pretty good to me. So I think just you and I prove that there is no "perfect" MMO. Nor can there ever be.

Stopped reading after "wait for it"

It's the sad state of the genre. The next big title has as many threads discussing issues with it's business model than issues with the game itself.

I agree and think the real ingenuity is first, having a world where players can actually do it without breaking something and two, developing a toolset that makes it easy to do.  It's a win/win for players and developers since there are a lot of people who would love to put the time in building structures to have it actually go into a AAA MMO.  This along with the mob AI, if they get it right, will see a lot of time for developers to focus on other things like events.

Not for nothing, but what you are eating now is not Ice Cream but rather Coconut Cream. But as for me, I sitll want Ice Cream.

You get to a point where you change basic features to such a degree, it's no longer the same product anymore. and your own analogy says as much.

It's the sad state of the genre. The next big title has as many threads discussing issues with it's business model than issues with the game itself.

Let's say there's 10 million* mmorpg gamers.

Let's say there's 100 million* total gamers all genres.

In the mmorpg genre let's say there's divisions of gamers per sub-genre.

So, one way EQN would have it's biggest number of players is to go for the biggest sub-genre fantasy and then add things that make it the best mmorpg eg compared to the market leader wow. I think it might have pulled it off. But,

If SOE then add some Minecraft type of players outside the mmorpg genre and some lol players (who knows?) and the modder type of people who probably play minecraft as well, then you kinda have extended the "for everyone".

So they might if lucky get 2 million* of the 10 million* mmorpg gamers, but then add in another 5 million* from outside and then you're doing really well with 7 million* players.

*Please note numbers are purely illustrative.

Basically in the BCS (best case scenario) you're potentially getting more players outside the genre is the key to growing big and providing a game for "everyone". Then there's the market leader: You have to be better than eg wow, which I think EQN is finally going to be eg F2P, voxels, mod community etc and just 10 odd years of tech improvements.

The degree in which feature changes turns an MMO into something different changes from person to person and as such cannot be used as a general premise. To you, not having tab targetting, trinity, quest hubs, etc. makes an MMO seem "less than" bit does not change what an MMORPG is and does not change the fact people enjoy them not being there. That's my point.

It ties into this thread really well. The "standard" method that has the features you listed seems to have gotten stale in the industry based upon the staying power of MMOs. I think players will welcome a change to features if the core elements of an MMO are there. IMO this has more to do with the world, story and reason/methods of interaction. Like you however, this is my opinion.

I think you are correct on what SoE is trying to do. When you think about it almost all new games coming out have some multiplayer aspect to it because sharing an experience is a wonderful thing.

If SoE can flesh out those core concepts from popular games and meld it to what makes an MMO great (TM lol) I think they will create something to reach the most amount of people. Hopefully they can do this.

Check out many popular topics on this website and you will quickly see that there is no way a game that is "perfect for everyone" could be made:

-- Themepark v. Sandbox v. Hybrid

-- targeting and combat styles

-- graphics style

-- theme (fantasy, sci-fi , historical, "real life," .....)

-- non-pvp v. consensual pvp v. open pvp v. FFA pvp with looting

-- p2p v. f2p v. b2p

-- how challenging a game should be or what the "cost" of game should be (not monetarily but the ability to lose items, land, buildings, and have perma-death)

-- "I should be able to solo the game" v. degree of playing with others/needing other players

-- what role non-combat professions should have in the game

-- open world v. instanced

-- leveled characters v. some other form of character development v. player skill

-- a game that includes player progression v. a game that is totally "end game" content v. a game that has NO end game content

Take all the possible combinations of the above plus the varying degrees of each and there is no way a game could be made that would be perfect for everyone.  What one person would consider perfect, another wouldn't even consider fun (a "perfect" mmo for me would need to be sandbox but I have fun for a little while with some themeparks yet FFA pvp is something I could never find fun). A game one player might enjoy for years, another player will get bored with or finish in less than a month.  Some games include features to expand their potential audience but there is no way a game could be made that would ever appeal to everyone.

As for EQNext, when I first heard about it, I had mixed feelings.  They were saying it was going to be a sandbox unlike anything else.  Due to SWG pre-CU, I knew SOE's potential for making a sandbox game but I also knew their potential for screwing them up and turning a sandbox into a themepark with a "we know better than you do what you consider fun."  I was curious what EQNext would be like although I don't trust SOE with sandboxes anymore.  I wasn't impressed by the description that came out so I'm watching some of the other sandbox games in development and hoping for a game I will find fun, even if I don't see it as being "perfect."  The problem is, after playing SWG, I have a big vision of what it would take for a game to be "perfect" for me.
