I applaud you man, but you are talking to a brick wall. Not sure what is up with people but this whole EQ thing is being blown out of proportion. The OP is not listening to you, instead like a lot of people they are flaming the game and hyping another game which both are wrong btw since neither are out at the moment. I never see anyone whose views change actually come to this damn forum and type that they were wrong. This site isn't even used for discussion anymore but just gossip, and cantankerous moods over the tiniest of things.

How can you seriously be angry that they chose that graphics style OP, when you see all the other things that are being implemented as well...I mean seriously. If EQ did not change anything and just used say the graphics of Elder scrolls I wonder how many people would be okay with that. I just don't get it any more, its no longer about the wonder and amazement of gaming its just how much you can berate the next game and hype the next one after ad infinum.

Man sometimes I really hate this hobby.

I don't get angry about any of this, but I find it hilarious how many people around here whine about "change" in MMO games all the time, and then as soon as they get some change, they freak out about it.  Honestly though, I just don't think they are very bright, and the Western world is plagued by knee-jerk reactionary culture.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Seeing the video's of what EQN and ESO are going to be, gameplay and graphics,  side by side on the same day, ESO is a poor and distant relation.

Its 2013, and unbeleivable graphics have came out.  Bethesda and Zenimax have taken hold of these amazing capablities and made us an online game with them.  Elder Scrolls Online.  After seeing what EQ Next will look like, and its gameworld looking like last years Guildwars 2 gameworld in graphics,  there will be no one in the way to make this the most realistic MMORPG of the year, and in fact, all time.   I hope and have no doubt we will see more MMORPG's start to follow this amazing graphic outlook to push these games to look even more real and enjoyable.   Just wanted to say Thankyou ESO!

Whar if your claim is right and eso is very realistic and all we, the players dont want realism but escape from it?

Agreed.  While I'm still on the fence between the two games,  I appreciate more the realistic art style of ESO.  The voxel based destructable environments in EQN sound interesting, but I'm not entirely sold yet.  The Landmark system may well be worth it, but I was disappointed to see that new constructions are essentially segregated in a separate application in a different world away from the regular game until they can be approved somehow to be moved into EQN.  I'll give it a shot, but my initial preference is definitely for more realism - even if that means less personal control over the environment.

Then I would say,  how can nvidia and ATI stay in buisness with all the people buying cards to play low quality graphic cartoon looking games, I'll tell you how,  because they majority of gamers are not playing low quality graphic games of the past.  Why not make all games cartoons and throw away graphics card?  Because we the players demanded higher graphic quality games then we seen with EQ Next and past games.  Wheres the proof?   The proof is top end graphic card sales figures that keep nvidia and ATI in buisness.

And the other claim would be Skyrim sales figures.

Unfortunately when things start moving, ESO looks more like a clay-mation than it does the "motion of life".

Wow, you could have said that nicer.

A forum is a place where people can discuss about different opinions. So what I don't get is, how people react offended when they come to a forum and then find... well different opinions. If a different opinion offends you, what are you even doing here?

TESO isn't an MMORPG. It is skyrim multiplayer with worse graphics and tacked on MMO elements

If you are expecting TESO to be your next timesink MMO, I am sorry but you will be disappointed. I guarantee it will flop, as much as I hate to say that. I was amped up about TESO as well since its initial reveal. After lots of research into TESO, I can accurately say that this game will be an over-instanced skyrim with hotbars. I come to this conclusion from all the articles I have read, podcasts I've listened to, forums I've visited, and more importantly, the dev's seemingly abundance of "pre-rendered canned buzzword jargen filled" replies to core game questions. you can tell when Paul Sage is about to spew bullshit--whenever he begins a response to a question with "SO". Completely fabricated canned replies. sigh

They are counting on marketing TESO to console gamers and TES fans enough to carry the game into profit earnings before they abandon the TES franchise. the concept and development of TESO began, afterall, right after skyrim's huge success. It is an elaborate cash grab attempt at milking a dying franchse. This is the reality of today's gaming market, unfortunately. The tacked on 1st person view is an afterthought and in extremely bad shape atm. the game was in development for 4+ years with 3rd person in mind--It will remain rough, unpolished, floaty, unnatural imo unless some serious coding/innovation is done by next spring.

OP, you are out of your mind if you are thinking that TESO has realistic or even good graphics, please check other MMORPG's first before saying nonsense like this, the graphic of TESO is actually CRAP compared to MMO's of 2014 and its crap compared to Oblivion, it looks something like a modded Morrowind graphics.

all that coming from a cartoon hamster.  I know it may be shocking to a cartoon that ESO is real, but I don't know how to break the news to you.  I think roger rabbit had the same reaction when he found out he was a cartoon also.

Thanks for the input. I have not had a chance to research the game yet, but this is exactly what I was afraid I would find out once I did. Your comment on the "cash grab" state of most mmorpgs today is a sad reality. It seems to be the prevailing business model.

I am going to ignore the entire "what is a MMO" rant. It's just absurd.

I have to admit, I like the TESO look 100 times better, myself. Don't get me wrong, I will definitely play both MMOs, and I give EQ:N credit for the daring ideas. But the landscapes and the chars... sorry that's SO not my cup of tea. I NEVER expected this in an Everquest named MMO. The screenshots we have seen from TESO looks a bit too brown, but we have mostly seen Morrowind so far. I already like the gritty detail of TESO much more.

Of course both games are in beta, so what do we know...

TES:O looks "realistic" in that it looks like a lower resolution version of Skyrim.  That's fine and all, but the problem with that is, as we've seen with every MMO that's aimed for realistic, it ages like a porn star.  Looks great when it first starts its career, couple years later it looks like it's ancient and requires a face lift, tummy tuck, and implants before anyone really wants to stick it in again.

Thanks.

Explain the Cyrodiil "co-op RPG" experience to me...if you even know what Cyrodiil is.

Whatever the devs are spinning these days to attract the single player TES crowd, this is an MMO. Saying otherwise is just showing your total lack of knowledge about the game and systems.

I guess that many people don't care about Cyrodiil at all. Question is if PvE part of the game is solo or group oriented.

if i'd go for graphics i'd probably rather go for tsw than eso - even if the graphics quality might be a bit lower (dont know) - at least i get something different in terms of lore and art style...eso is just the same fantasy as everquest - and then i rather choose the one that delivers more on the mechanics side.

I'm with you. I'll play them both too. I don't like the character graphics in EQN but there are many innovative things that are either new or very rare in MMOs. SOE is having the the balls to try some very unique things and I want  to experience them for myself.

By comparison, ESO is taking a more traditional approach. The innovation is there too but it's more subtle and incremental. And they're bringing back an older but seldom used feature: the DAoC style 3-sided RvR. It may not seem so unusual these days after GW2 gave it a shot (as did TSW in a half-assed way) but these guys are going about it the right way.

I'll play EQN for the smart NPC AI, mob pack behavior, non-repeatable events and changing world.

I'll play ESO for the cross-class character customization (which is similar but seems better to me than what EQN has planned) and the PVP in Cyrodiil.

Sure, both games have warts, but what frigging MMO doesn't? I just have to roll my eyes at some of the extreme hysterical posts in both forums. There seem to be a lot of kids around who claim they won't play game "X" if it doesn't have everything they think they wan in it... "no chat bubbles? I'm out!" "instancing? I'm out!" etc. They've either been spoiled rotten or (more likely) are just throwing public temper tantrums and will play the game anyway despite what they claim now.

I'll agree, that eq next has revolutionary game mechanics that we never seen before, but as far as graphics go, they will not be as good as ESO's this time around.  I guess people will have to choose what they like most in these games.  Game mechanics or real looking graphics.   It will be nice to see someday if game mechanics of eq next could be added to a game as stunningly beautiful as ESO

That's not how the reality of these things work.

At some point I'm sure we'll get technology that will handle today's graphics with the most robust game mechanics imaginable. However, by that time graphics will have also evolved. And the graphics we think are so amazing today will look like crap by comparison to what we will have 10-20 years from now.

Go back and play some of the games available in the '90s and you'll get an idea of just how much things can change in 20 years.

- Unfortunately, gamers will always have to pick what's more important to them. Superior mechanics, or cutting-edge graphics. The two will never mix completely, because of both technical limitations as well as limited studio resources. However, this is a lesson gamers seem doomed to relearn over & over as a whole.

I think they both look good graphically... I do prefer the art style of ESO though.
