I'm not knocking DNL (I actually know little about it), I'm just curious why everyone is looking forward to this game so much. The screens look like most other MMORPGS on the market. What makes DNL so anticipated?

It promises some original ideas something missing since DAoC in 2001.Will it deliver is the question.

Freedom of choice
is what you got,
freedom from choice
is what you want!

The game looks plainly horrible right now > points at screenshots.
Also i read post by a beta tester that decided to break nda , and say that animations in the game right now are so bad that it would be better if all the characters didnt have no legs at all.

And what special is the game offering? Very huge game world.

Nice , but i bet this huge world will be empty or populated by random mobs...

I think this game is 99% hype

Open PvP and RvR style gameplay with possably a Full loot system

Play run ecconomy and Player run citys

Skill base vs LvL base systems

Just a few things that keep me folowing the Game though most of what i know is ... seccond hand info.

TBH flashy graphics and nice animations are seccondary to a good concept and a well thought out endgame. We shall see what it turns out like... Its got to be better than WoW...

Fire is never a gentle master

December 8th will shatter the hype. Just watch their official forums when they release it. Anyone remember Mourning? It'll be similar to that ::::20::

Theres the great irony with DnL aint it.  NOBODY Knows anything about it.  The NDA on beta (if there is infact a real beta going) has been airtight.

The hype is related to the fact that it has all the features that the more mature MMOGer is longing for.  Social structure built for RPG, meaningful PvP with control of land masses, building and running different infrastructures, and incredibly rich and complex crafting system, and more.

People have been dreamin of a pre Tremmel fiasco 3d UO clone since the invention of the 3dFX GPU.  Something rich, engrossing, and realistic.

There isnt a hope in hell that DnL will actually live up to 50% of the hype...if its real and does actually go live in this decade with half the promised features it will be pretty dam cool.

I personally am starting to weigh in on the "this whole thing is BS" crowd...I mean , come on.  Were selling Pioneer accounts for the actual game that will guarantee your place in the free-pre game???  Everything about it other than the pie-in-the-sky promises sound, looks, and quite frankly is fishy.

Were actually just a few days from go-live and theres still little or no real info on classes, skills, races on the official site.

I hope this game is real but wont be surprised if it isnt...Guess Im just cynical and have worked with big business too long ...

Ok.

1)  DnL is NOT going live in a few days.

2) SoG (Settlers of Garanath)is going live in a few days.

3) SoG is a Pregame for DnL that will allow PLAYERS to create some of the background story and lore.

4) SoG is not a completed game.  Anyone who knows ANYTHING about DnL will/SHOULD know this.

5) Some people are sick and tired of games that control how you play and control who gets to do what.  DnL offers the chance for PLAYERS to control this a LOT more.

6) DnL will/shlould go live in April.

7) We (the DnL supporters) are looking to let more people know aboput a game that is changing the boundries on what is available and acceptable in a game.  If you want a restrictive 'you must play this way' game then don't check out DnL, but if you are looking for a game that will allow you to explore, create, and control a VAST landscape then check em out :) @ www.darkandlight.com

Thanks for your time :)

It's new. Actually, that survey I just saw on the front page indicates people are looking forward to DDO considerably more, so far. That's new, too. Now, we just have to wait to see if it's shiny. Everyone loves new and shiny!

My guess the biggest hype about it is probably that it has the largest game map of any MMORPG today. 40,000 km. That's 20 times the size of every planet on SWG combined. (SWG had formerly claimed the largest game world.)

Every player plays in the same world, seamless and without load times. The more people sign-up, the more server clusters they can add to reduce/eliminate lag caused by the new players.
