Over hyped. Getting a SWTOR vibe from this entire thing.

No info/no screens nothing...just people blowing hot air.

Meh, that's the internet in a nutshell though.

Really?  Even with a proven track record of EQ and EQ2 which are MMO's.

Even trying to compare swtor to everquest anything shows your lack of knowledge on mmo`s. While i do agree it is too early to.debate anything about eq next yet.....it.will more then likely be the best mmo released latley.

^

This!

Gee did I step on someones toes?

This escalated quickly lmao! Yes, obviously cause I am not so super uber excited about EQNext, I obviously must know nothing of MMOs. Congratulations you have unmasked me.

Now thats over. I never said EQ didn't have any grand importance in MMO history. Being a Foundation? I don't know about that...technically MUDs have that claim but whatever I don't know nothing of MMOs. (Thanks for revealing me btw so much stress has now lifted from my shoulders!)

Also a tweeted picture of a monitor isn't info its a NOTHING. Can I do the same thing with my cat and say I have an MMO coming out?

I didn't say the game was going to be awful or hell that I wasn't interested in seeing what it has to offer but felt  that perhaps people were going into this with expectations too high aka SWTOR! Hope that is clarified.

Hopefully we will see more at E3.

Don't get  all your panties in a twist lmao

When asked about it, Smedley indicated that EverQuest Next would hew to F2P as well. He also said players shouldn't worry that they haven't heard much about this new title because the secrecy is intentional. "We want to get it right," Smedley said. "That's the pillar of our company and we are going to get it right. We're also making the next generation of MMOs, not an evolution -- and everyone says that, but in this case, we're zigging every other company's zag. Everybody's making WoW 1.5. We're doing something else."

Same reason why CU was all of a sudden top of the hype meter even though everything was complete speculation or rough ideals or how it was completely unheard of before by most.  Which in the end the game barely made it's KS quota, 10% over the quota I call a pretty close call.

People want their wet dream MMO and cater to any new MMO that's in developement or just announced.  And in the end the reality of the game will be far from what many wanted and people will QQ rage.

Just like how Craptic wanted Neverwitner "done right"?  Secrecy internal huh?.... sounds like Neverwinter all over again with how their atrocious PR work was done for the game.

It's 2013 and people still believe in SOE?  I thought I was delusional...  Also every time that Smedley's name is mention, I want to spit.

Just understand SOE has an entire department dedicated to Viral Marketing.

They learned from blizzard a viral marketing staff is crucial to a successful money grab.

SOE has the largest pool of games to amass info from. They have very skilled developers working on the title who have paid their dues on previous hits and misses. They have experience in making MMO's. Not just games, but true, long lasting MMO's. That is the key, they know what they are doing. They aren't some random studio trying to jump on the MMO bandwagon with their newest IP rights.

There have been times where I have truly hated SOE and times I enjoyed their products. But one game I have been hoping for has been EQNext. The only people really hyping the game are the players. Smed has been doing a few tweets, but I bet those at SOE are most likely just laughing as diehard fans eat up the simple one word/one pic tweets he has been doing. EQNext has been literally inside a box to anyone outside of SOE. No one knows anything about it, other than the few scraps people have been saying about it.

I'll still buy it, and play the hell out of it, but this hype train has nothing to do with my enthusiasm. I cut my MMO teeth on EQ, played SWG and Vanguard at release. My hope is that EQNext is basically those three in a nutshell with Planetside 2 style graphics. If that is the case, I'll have a nice home for many years to come. If not, I'll most likely still play it for quite awhile since EQ held my attention for years.

Here is what I read .... "I miss my first MMO" and "SoE has 50/50 hit and miss ratio" and "I will buy something even if I don't know what it is" which seems to be the consensus so far from EQNext fans which = All the hype on the meter.

Would NEVER disagree with what you have said. I have had an active EQ account for 16 years now, ( yup I know its only 14, but I buy my sub 2 years at a time and have the 16 year rewards as a result ).

That being said I stick by the fact they have a viral marketing department and a lot of hype you see when a new SOE game is on the horizon is the paid viral marketing team.

On the other side of the coin, any business that does not have marketing staff that uses every tool at its disposal are idiots.

Viral marketing is a smart business tool for online retailers and I would think worse of them if they did not employ them.

Yeah with no info, no data whatsoever and all reputation of previous games. And seeing D&D sofar it's not all it's cracked up to be.

the steel shines red with enemy blood. It sings of victory, granted by the gods. And as they return bleeding but proud, the horizon burns and the song is ringing LOUD!

I was subbed to EQ for over four years, missing out on games like DAoC, SWG etc.  I tried the trials for other games, but always went back to EQ  I miss it dearly.  I've tried to go back on a few occasions, but I've been spoiled by the newer games.  The UI and clunky controls just kills it for me.

Since leaving EQ I have been a MMO hobo; never lasting a few months in any one game except for Vanguard due to getting bored of the quest grind and the simple (majority) gameplay.  I'm hoping EQN will be the true successor of EQ.

I'm hyped for the game, even without knowing the details for the game.  There is one reason keeping my hype in check and SOE is that reason.  SOE's past record makes me wary of anything their produce.  I will not be pre-ordering the game until I get my hands on it.  I advise everyone try and keep the hype in check and remember it's SOE and Smedley we are dealing with.

It is hyped because it deserves to be. The original in the franchise is one of the MMO's that made all MMO's possible. On top of that it was announced they they are doing something that is not usually done by AAA titles, a sandbox. When you take one of the most well known franchises, make a sequel, and also deviate it from the norm of crappy wow clones then you get tons of hype.  If you ask me its quite deserved.

While it could bomb like SWTOR , I'm really hoping not.

The main thing that has me looking forward to it is they are at least hyping the correct thing.

SWTOR was "We've got voice acting like never before"

EQNext is "We are making the biggest mmo sandbox yet"

At least they are in the correct ballpark of what is important to making a mmo.

Question is, what is their definition of sandbox?  Too much companies will say their "sandbox" just to attract people when in reality they are anything but sandbox.  And really sandbox games are the minority in profits.  Who has the greatest subs and revenue?  Here is a hint, not sandbox games.  This site attracts the MMO rejects who piss n moan bout how things should be like minority poiltical parties who are no where near the majority of the population.

Just look at CU's kickstarter.  While successful I wouldn't say it was a raging success and that game seem like the embodiement of sandbox games in a fantasy setting.

Over hyped. Getting a SWTOR vibe from this entire thing.

No info/no screens nothing...just people blowing hot air.

Meh, that's the internet in a nutshell though.

Unfortunately I fear that you are correct. Those dipshits at Bioware thought they made the golden goose, and delivered a roadkill duck. Hype = wariness.

Even trying to compare swtor to everquest anything shows your lack of knowledge on mmo`s. While i do agree it is too early to.debate anything about eq next yet.....it.will more then likely be the best mmo released latley.

*Best* as in you will play it 1 week longer than all the rest getting released.

Sorry, but even Blizzard can't beat WoW... that ship has gone and sailed.  They'd be better off creating a new IP altogether... at least then it will be judged on what it is and not what it was.
