I believe the greatest issues I have with EVE Online are it's clunky controls (right-click this, right-click that, etc.), the cluttered UI (talk about having to go through multiple windows to do things), and the extremely time consuming progression (wait 48 hours in order to learn a skill so that you can equip this new ship module!). Overall, I believe the overall vision is terrific, but the actual minute-to-minute gameplay is slow, unexciting, and grossly unfulfilling.

I've canceled my sub to eve until i finish my degree... i'm still a noob in eve but i spent much time playing hehehe

One thing is different from other mmos is the interaction with the community. I remember when i played eq and we had to wait until the healer recovers the mana... it took time, but in that time we could speak about us, and know each other.

So in eve, for example, if i'm mining i can keep chating with my corp mates, planning some pve actions or just talking about the skills, etc...  I want to try pvp, for now, and because my studies i had to get another screen to keep eve running while i was writting some papers hehehe.. but i couldnt do that if i had to stay more aware of the local chat.

I love sci-fi, but sci-fi is not only ships, and stars, and planets... sci-fi is about philosophy, interactions, and more, so that game fills that, you can asume a role of a broker, pirate, miner, etc...

As someone said: you dont try eve, eve tries you.

If you play this game waiting for rush action and easy win better go play neverwinter, eve requieres some planification and almost a half brain

Yes, and no.

CCP, I feel, is just as successful as WoW, but in a different respect. EVE is still going, known to be not only outstanding graphics, but the most comlplex and immersive gameplay to date at this time. If there is any company I can trust to make a true sandbox, that will challenge you more than your average game, it's CCP! They do the 'out in space' very well, and have created the exploration of deep systems unlike any other attempts before it. That is where my yes comes from.

My no, unfortunately, stems from the fact that while I love the game, I can't actually keep myself playing, ever.. for more than a week. Allow me to reiterate, it DOES NOT suck. If anything, it'll go down/or should in MMO history. The problem is - staring at a spaceship is not as pleasing as being able to interact through my avatar (humanoid). I do think that they do great in making you feel that you have been successful in the game, by pooling your resources, making greater items, and ships themselves. It just is lacking a certain immersion I'd like. Maybe explore my ship, or the station (I wish they did WiS). I did love finding the hidden anomalies though, and harvesting for the illegal drug trade. Oh man, I'd so return to EVE just for that! Otherwise, that's my no portion.  :(

Eve is the last of the real MMO's I'd say.Though Im not a fan,I always admired it for keeping true to the genre's roots.

I will always hold it in high esteem.

Exactly.  Last I checked, companies are still making MMOs, there are multiple MMOs that are +5 and +10 years old with active communities, AND there are now more MMO games then ever before.

This ultimately adds up to an increase in the competitiveness of gaming companies, a broader selection for the consumer, and a continued growth in the MMO market - all things that are great news for MMO gamers.

It is  the best game. When you get in  to it you can't leave it. What makes Eve so special is that you can lose so much there.

And please stop with that crap about  Eve and SF, Eve is real it is not SF.

EVE Online is like 25 year old Scotch....you either love it or hate it.

But....even those who hate it more than love it, like myself have to admit...that EVE Online is first class all the way.

Its player base is HUGE, LOYAL, and its community and once a year FANFEST a Juggernaut.

Even its official magazine EON was probably the best looking awesome magazine in the history of print publications, as was its ISK guides paper or pdf and its map packs (print or pdf).

And the graphics....WOW...not content to be lazy, EVEs devs keep progressing the graphics and animations, just to name a few. Its a massive and overwhelming game in some cases, and people will shell out $15 a month to play it. The good outweighs the bad by a landslide.

Unfortunately, the few bad things about this game are the very things which are also considered good and what retains the games playerbase...that being...its OVERWHELMING.

My god....the amount of skills and ship upgrades and parts is mind blowing, also...it takes TIME...alot of TIME to accomplish things. You have to be a very patient and detail oriented person to enjoy this game, neither of which I am...but I do admit, I come back to it for about a month once or twice a year. in fact, so much work is being done on this game to make it more user freindly and fun, it will be hard for me to ignore it and not sub.

If you like Sci-Fi and space genres, this is the game for you...if you like to REALLY and I mean REALLY get wrapped up in an MMO, down to the intimate details, this game is for you. But, if you are impatient or lazy...forget it. Your success is equal to the work you put into it.

I know some people will disagree with me, but for anyone interested in the sci-fi space genre of MMOs, it would be well worth to at least TRY the game. Dont expect a WoW type or Secret World storyline though, its all about trade, commerce, and space combat, and your ship(s) are your characters, except when you get out at a space station and walk around your private quarters.

I dont know what else to say except that, I always felt EVE was one expansion away at some point to blowing the MMO industry thru the roof. All they need, is the ability for all players to see each other and be able to congregate outside their ships and maybe cut down the learning success curve a bit to the point of not upsetting existing players, and turn up the storyline to more exciting proportions and then they will have a atomic bomb of a game to devour all others.

Of course EVEs DUST 514 is the most ingenius feature to ever come about in an MMO, i.e. the co-existance of console and PC gamers, with PC gamers fighting it out in space and console gamers fighting it out on the ground and the contracts made between PC gamers and the console gamer to have the console gamers protect the pcgamers planetary assets on teh ground is breathtaking...and even the ability of a pcgamer ship to orbital bombard the console players on the planet is EPIC.

We will see what happens.....

Sci-fi space genre mmo.. I do like the theme of the game, yet alone.. the gameplay, the combat system it's a let down to me, I tried to get a hold on to, yet I can't survive of boredom within the game, same goes to DUST 514, it's just another pointless fps game where they actually would suck the life out of you for your money, the only different is that both game connected by a single point where u get to send missiles or such into the world of Dust 514 if you are playing EVE and the other way around aswell. I mean I loved that they added the avatar system where u get to walk around your room to your ship but that's it. Then again I might not know what I'm talking about since I couldn't get to explore the further features of the game, I love me a proper dogfight specially when it comes to sci fi space games *Space mode, battlefronts*. For me, Star Wars Galaxy is a proper sci fi sandbox mmo, amazing space combat, althought ground combat abit off, and etc, it you like to compare the fanbase, since the game got shut down, the loyal fans are actually running the server atm, talking about strong loyalty.

I first tried eve in beta this started a five year love love burn out cycle, I stuck to hisec  and looked down on the pvp crowd, probably because I had never seen the point of pvp, I would play for three months then leave for three months, then I found pvp or it found me.

I was doing a level 4 mission and did not realize I had entered low sec, mission went fine and was easy in my pimped out ship, when all of a sudden a red flashing target enters my mission, I went home in a pod.

That was the turning point, I could have raged or quit, 12 months work a navy raven with full faction fit, hard work or so I felt back then.

But something very strange happened as that guy took apart my ship and even tried to ransom me my heart was beating so damn fast, I actually didn't take a breath for almost half a minute body buzzing with adrenalin for the first time ever a game felt real, a game really mattered beyond pixels beyond any normal death in any mmo I had played.

That night after a long walk outside I began reading up on pvp, ship fits, downloaded eft and evemon, like a lot of players before that point, I did not really feel connected, people call it a spreadsheet but that night I felt eve was more real than any game I had ever played.

I joined a corp that taught me pvp, in fact I joined any over the next few years that looked like a war was coming, ran fleets did special ops stuff was a part of some of the biggest fights eve has ever had, from rifters to dreads and carriers.

I am now in one of the biggest coalitions in space, part of an empire spanning in game light years and people who are more loyal and better friends than my next door neighbor .

Since that day in low sec I have never intentionally done any pve in eve.

I can sit in VFK home but space is never safe, I can undock in that very system in to a crowd of sniper battlecruiser who want to kill me, I can go one jump out of system and some enterprising gate campers will try to kill me, I can roll out with twenty friends for a drunken roam, 1000+ in coordinated fleet strat ops or jump over to my carrier or dread to drop on something.

The feeling is still the same after all these years and if I do not pay attention I can lose my ship every gate can be a surprise.

It has ruined me to do pvp in any other game yes I may play other mmo for pve fix.

EVE is not for everyone and I am so damn happy about that, EVE is eve and to those of us that love it even though the relationship may some times become strained eve is our home and from some one who has played nearly every mmo out there since meridian 59 and muds before that  I can say that unless I die or the world ends I hope to be playing EVE for the next 10 years at least.

EVE looks to be fine, but only at the first glance

how many accounts are PLEX driven? the very few EVE players, i know, all use

alt accounts, with PLEX, that they earn on their mains

so, ccp tries to get into a new market with dust 514, and that doesnt seem to be going so well

i dont think EVE will be shutting down, but i dont think its growing either

EVE is simply amazing. It's one of the few actual worlds as opposed to most modern style mmod being developed as games. Fun is ******* overrated!

EVE is growing at the fastest rate in it's history at the moment. It gained ~20% subs in about 15 months. I think CCP are pretty pleased with EVE's commercial performance right now.

DUST I don't know, I'm not really involved with, except that it's seeing roughly 25% of Planetside II's login rate. That's not outstanding but not disasterous either. CCP have said right from the start that they're going for the "slow and steady" growth model for DUST, just like they did with EVE. Who knows, maybe that's what will happen.

Eve Online lacks one of the major things that makes a mmo what it is. It lacks exploration and discovery. Big open space that has nonthing out there in it. Eve to me is more like a online rts game.

Wut? EVE has more of that than any other MMO there is. By orders of magnitude.

Well I mean you do have to leave hi-sec, I guess...

EVE is good.  It's a very complex game.  It's certainly not for everyone.  It takes time, patience, and dedication to really embrace what EVE has to offer.  Even then, the game will chew you up and spit you out the moment you think you've got the hang of it.  It's one of the only games I have played that truly doesn't cater to the masses.

CCP is a solid company and they do their best to meet fan expectations.  EVE has changed over the years, and seems like it's getting better as it ages.

Whilst I'd say eve is the best mmo currently available, i'd have to agree with this.  For me exploration always ended as 'boxes in space'.  But a good concept none the less, maybe if/when they add avatars properly it'll become so much more.

Still better than what they offer in sto, which makes no sense.

I absolutely love sci-fi and space genres.  I have ever since waiting in line for several hours at the movie theater just to see Star Wars back in 1977.  However, this game is NOT for me.  I wish it was, but it isn't.

Same for me Rodingo....

I have tried EVE multiple times over the years and I just can't get into the game for some reason even though I love the concept.

I've tried as well...I think its coorporation...you need to get in one that works for you quick...I never found that and quit quicly
