lots of ppl came back including me. world is full and now there is a point of being in the open world.

rift cant be played else. you need many ppl outside. now that i play into a full server i can see its full potential. its very very nice indeed.

hoping at 12-06 more ppl will come, so more servers go full. its indeed a very good game and has a lot of fun.

I will definitely try this out again once it becomes f2p.

Rift is a good game and i had a decent amount of fun with it, it will be interesting for me to see all the changes and the progress the game has made since the last time i played, which was long before the release of the Storm Legion expansion.

I wholehearted disagree with this statement.  In my experience with Trion through three betas and two releases, they are by far the WORST MMO developer when it comes to treating customers right.  Three examples off the top of my head:

1. Having an issue with Rift that caused my account to be unplayable;  It took Trion nineteen days to reply with a form letter.

2. Using misleading language when describing their games (Calling Defiance's exploration 'endless' and claiming it had 'open-world' PvP)

3. During the recent release of Defiance, they had a major server issue that caused a 3+ hour rollback.  While that's not unheard of, their shameful attitude of pretending it never happened was.  They deleted countless posts and threads off their forums without warning, without giving reasons and without even acknowledging that players were screwed over (including players who had used real money to purchase things, only to not have their purchases anymore).

The only 'right' thing they ever did was quickly fixing a 'wrong' when they overcharged me once for my Rift sub.

While I hate to see any gaming entity suffer the hardships Trion is going through, treating customers poorly is always a good indicator that things are not going well... (THQ for instance).  I don't want Trion to fail, but if they want any more of this player's money, they need to fix their laissez-faire attitude about customer relations.

At this low point in MMO gaming, I refuse to play even the shiniest turd.

if trion stay true to their word, upon release this f2p model will be best f2p model in the market and also the standard for all f2p games to follow. this model is the future of mmo market.

i want an open world, no phasing, no instancing.i want meaningful owpvp.i want player driven economy.i want meaningful crafting.i want awesome exploration, a sense of thrill.i want ow housing with a meaningful effect on my entire gameplay experience, not just some instanced crap.i want all of these free of cost, i don't wanna pay you a cent, game devs can eat grass and continue developing game for me.
Seems like that is the current consensus of western mmo players.

I'm thinking about DCUO, when I see the "gear bought in shop" part.  Rift's content isn't 100% "gear gated", but to get up to speed for later game raids and dungeons, you need to grind through older content.  I WISH DCUO would let me buy earlier tier gear in their shop.  I'd still be playing it if I could.

So while it's a little concerning, I also think I'd make use of the feature if I jumped back into F2P Rift and wanted to play the new content, not the old.

this is one of the best free to play models ive seen out here currently , people here complaining about crappy expert gear being sold are way to jaded seriously. If you hate it so much dont play it , its that simple. Make a statement with something other than your mouths about it. Expert Gear is going to make you still have to run the 2.0 raids if you want to move up into the current stuff when this patch releases and f2p starts its common sense. Also Rift switching its target audience is a good thing, their current audience obviously were not loyal or paid their bills forcing them to switch to free to play to begin with. Its time for a change to this game , it had all the small features to be a great title and now they might actually be able to afford to spend time polishing things other than raiding with a constant stream of new players who will continue to come in for at least the next year or more. People here complain about gear being sold and would rather bash them for that instead of all the features they leave open to free players unlike games like star wars and lotr online or eq2 for that matter....

The 10% mount thing is def a PTW item and necessary for almost every account.  Rift was a decent game but I couldn't get into it like other MMOs. WPVP was quite dull even at release when we has packed servers and battlegrounds are always a snooze. I even came back for for storm legion but it was a wasted buy as the same fun level was present.  I wish we could have a fully fleshed MMO with Darkfall's FPS style but yet plenty of decent PVE content. I'd play DFUW if it Tasos wasn't still at the helm.

victor, your statements regarding the worth of the "patronage" and people probably being pleased with it,  are clueless.

Rifts patronage system is not worth the money, since it lacks a monthly game-currency stipend and something special like the monthly subscriber item that tsw has.

I disagree.  The patronage could be a great deal or it could end up lacklustre.  We'll have to see exactly what the details work out to be with loyalty.  Tera has a very similar offering and I found it to be a great powerleveling and resource gathering deal.  Those sorts of bonuses are decent but don't over value the account.

Look at SoE with EQ2 for a moment.  Their Gold account status lets a character wear more powerful gear at no additional charge but doesn't provide access to content unless you purchase it.  Most content packs are retro-active (you get all previous zones with it) with one exception.  That's not a bad deal, but when you drop your account status it means you lose access to a lot and have to regear or pony up more money to wear the gear, even though it dropped from a content pack area you purchased.  All that adds up to feeling downgraded when you stop subbing.  It's not a huge deal, but it is an emotional perception issue that counts.

The idea behind Patronage or Elite status (Rift, Tera respectively) is that you're buffed.  You play the game as a free player like anyone else, but if you pay a sub you get what amounts to a stipend of cash shop consumable items and buffs with some extra account perks like shorter lockout cooldowns.  When you drop that the game, the progression, and the gear all feel the same; you just do it a little slower.

It makes the game feel the same and give the player the power to choose when and how much they pay.  Want to play hard?  Buy Patron status and spend a little in the cash shop.  Don't want to play that hard?  Drop Patron status and make cash shop purchases, or not, for a while.

I don't favor game cash stipends because it tends to promote inflation especially in a game where virtual and real money can blend directly.

We'll have to see how the details come out, but if you can trade unbound loot (like in GW2, Neverwinter, STO) for REX, credits, game cash, or any other intermediary currency then you can already buy gear.  This system gives direct revenue to Trion instead of raiding guilds that sell gear and gear spots.  It really is a benefit to the more casual player or the non-raider because it sets a system cap on gear value.  Raid guilds are still free to undercut Trion and suck up some of the profits, but they can't gouge the community any more than Trion allows.

In all I would say it's a brilliant system.  This sort of gear buying has been going on in raiding games for a long time.  I think this shifts a lot of power from the illicit money farming and the gear sales to the publisher.  Like I said, pretty clever imo.

If by "old content" you mean that you need to run any of the level 50 (former level cap) dungeons or raids, that would be absolutely incorrect. You can skip all that entirely and you will level much more quickly if you do.  If you're just talking about the level 1-50 grind, well... yeah. Same as every other game pretty much.

You are forgetting the biggest difference between DCUO and Rift model. In DCUO you can have only 1500 credits max. I think gear should be of last concern. Putting restrictions on credits is just awful.

Rift has one of the best F2P model right besides Tera and Aion.

I once bought stuff in an MMO cash shop and won the game. Understand? I WON the WHOLE thing. I beat everyone. They had to shut the MMO down.

Is always sad news when some decent game is forced to f2p. Just hope sub gives so much to be worth to play. I will never ever again play any f2p (actually f2p is always false statement) that does not have also sub mode. Exception can be to some degree  b2p and here Gw2 excells.

Agreed^^

Seems many have lost the meaning of ptw. There are far worse game's out there that are ptw, this isn't one of them.If you can acquire better gear in the game, how is it ptw?To me this is like buying green/blue (non heroic) gear in WoW,when purple (epic) is available in game. The best is obtainable in the game and not store bought.

Superb job by TRION. Really superb.

I can play the whole content of the game. can go as many times as i want to dungeons, raids, slivers, rifts, warfronts etc. can loot and wear all the available gear game has to offer. can use all the game features and yes dear swtor even contact to a gm as free user. to summarize this is imo really free

as it concerns the gear at cash shop, i can easily stand to sell what ever, if the latest tiers and end game gear in general, is obtained only in game. and TRION do this.

so thx once again TRION for letting me play in such a fine way one of the greatest mmo's in the market. this is beyond what  i could imagine tbh

btw ppl are coming back every day, even before its free. raptr offer was too good. i wonder what will happen at 12-6.
