Most servers are English speaking and only some are German or French speaking ones.

Lotro is mostly PvE. There is a kind of PvP, "monster play" and its mostly for paying players.

Im a eu player who wants to play on a eu server. Do I waste my time downloading?

There's a german forum making login charts, based on those charts Withywindle is the most packed former Eu server, followed by Laurelin, Eldar and Snowbourn on the same level (+2 german servers, Gwaihir and Belegaer, the german Rp server). The heaviest activity is between 18-24, peak login counts are around 21:00 (eu time)

No english speaking servers?

Hm...

This game is PvE only right?

:) sorry for the confusion, I only added the 2 german ones because they had the same login numbers as the previous three.

There are 2 french servers (one of them is rp) and I guess 5 or 6 german servers (1 of them is rp). All the other almost 20 servers are english (with Laurelin as rp, and Landroval as rp-"enforced" aka the unofficial rp server for the US).

As Lithuanian wrote, LotRO is PvE mostly, not PvE only :) It started as PvE and later PvMP was added (as in Plaver vs Monster Player). It's a separate, pretty big zone where the Free Peoples can fight against the creeps (orcs, wargs, spiders as player-controlled characters).

But it's fully optional, and have no influence to the world at all (except some world buff if the freeps have all the keeps). If you don't like pvp, you can even forget that there's pvp in LotRO.

Is there anything "sandbox" about LOTRO?

Whats endgame in PvE? Dungeons and raids?

And what is the difference between sub and free player?

I dont mind buying boxes if the game is good, but as it is now Im not up for a sub for any game.

Not sure what does "sandbox" mean. In Lotro, you cannot change landscape: plant trees or demolish that ugly hill.

 Yes, dungeons and raids.

And what is the difference between sub and free player?

Free to play: gold cap (2 gold only); 2 toons per server; cannot post in Auction house; have less inventory space; quick travel unavailable; trait slots must be purchased; regions up to Mines of Moria must be purchased.

I dont mind buying boxes if the game is good, but as it is now Im not up for a sub for any game.

Some players advice subbing for 1 month (15$), then cancel in order to have access to many things, like gold cap removal, quick travel, slots, inventory space, auction house etc. Affects only those toons that you created while being paying customer.

Community, stability hmm lotsa churn but thats normal for f2p games. as far as if you will like it or not depends on you.

Stories ok particuarely from the earlier regions, expansions.

If you like pvp, raiding, and/or challenging grp/solo content prob won't be the game for you.

EDIT and no no sandbox elements.

The older raids are good but turbine has since shifted it's focus to pure casual play.  As the last of the raiding kins(guilds) depart it will be unlikely that enough demand will remain to incentiveice Turbine to do much more in the raiding dept.

Raiders are the minority of the player base in this game, and always have been.  Why would you spend money on catering to 5% of the population?

Learn to read there jimbo, was answering a previous posters specific question about raid content.

But since you brought it up nope raiders are not a major population in LOTRO, these days apparently online gamblers are

I can read, sunshine.  I was informing you of why this is the case regarding raid content.  It isn't a crime to be proved wrong, you know, so just take it on the chin ;)

The numbers of people playing Lotro are at an all time low. The content in the expansions is at an all time low. The number of bugs in the game and performance problems is at an all time high.

Turbine is not investing much in the game at this point - I would avoid it like the plague if you want to play a good MMO. If you want to look at it and see some nice scenery for cheap - then maybe it is ok. But if you want to play to level cap, you will pay a lot for all the expansions, and it is not worth it at this point.

There is even a question whether they will keep their license to run the game in 2014. They are silent on this and the game could be shut down. Now back to the dreamers who will tell you how great everything is in the game.

I would add that this game used to be challenging to some degree but is not anymore. It is truly for the casual player. I keep coming back to it, but have left and most likely for the last time. Sad.  On that note, if you are a casual player who does not like great challenges and wishes to solo early content - this is a good game for you. my opinion.

Currently bored with MMO's.

It's still a great game, IMO.  The only complaints some people around here make is about the cash shop. When I go back to it, I just sign up for VIP and don't even really notice the shop unless I want to buy a cool mount or something.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

This is blatantly false, theyve done quite a lot in the last year and a half or so.  They had a pretty barren stretch before that, but there has been quite a bit of content added lately.

While the game certainly has its issues, you obviously are too biased against it to judge it fairly.

You are obviously not playing the game as the game is doing very well and has a healthy population as well as updates. As for paying a lot for the expansions, you do realise they can be bought with Turbine Points in the cash shop and that Turbine Points can be earned just by playing the game? I bought most of the expansions this way which in turn didn't cost me anything, the best part was also on their 6th anniversary, I got 20% of anything I bought in the cash shop, deal or what.

I have been playing for the last 4 years. I invite anyone to go read the Lotro official forums and you can see all the game problems. A five minute look over there and you can see how many players agree.

There are login numbers for the game and there is a huge decline in numbers of people playing. But you can keep pretending the game is doing well. Have fun there.

The PVP in this game is dead and that's what it needs to regain "mainstream" status. I don't understand why they don't understand this. Even just producing more PVP content would draw in thousands of gamers still looking for that crafting & pvp fix.

I will never support freeloaders, no more subsidized gaming.

No I am not biased. I like the game - just it has gotten much worse. The last expansion (and the one before) was delayed. The instances part of it was delayed 6 months! and was small. Clearly they are not investing enough in the game - every piece of content is late and has major bugs. The launch of the last expansion was a disaster - many people could not log in. With so many bugs and so much fail in how they are operating - you cannot really say they are putting enough in to the game. For example, the game itself has a serious memory leak now - and they know and have not fixed this for more than a year. They have laid off staff and moved many staff from Lotro to their other games. But deny it all you want.

Sometimes companies do a terrible job with a game. Turbine clearly know this is an older game and has decided to move staff and money to it's other games. They are doing the minimum to keep people there - but the latest expansions are small, rushed, buggy and terrible.

The latest expansion East Rohan was not small or buggy for me. I had a number of crashes in their 1st expansion Moria (which is a smaller landmass than East Rohan). I havent had a single crash in Rohan. As regards population, numbers in global chat are up compared to just after Rohan launched. The API figures quoted by people like you are unreliable. I know this because not all my alts show up on the altfinder site. Interesting to note that for someone who claims to have been playing so long, I cant remember a single post by you on either the Codemasters or Turbine forums.
