I figured they would be coming but just strange they didnt have them in any of the beta weekends.

The boxes CAN contrain blue gear...so get your Pay to Win comments ready !! I dont think its that big of a deal due to how rare they are but it is what it is.

Anyhoo, I open up 15 of them for your view pleasure.

Well Cryptic has some sort of RNG lockbox in 66% of the mmos they develop, so it's really no big surprise that NW would eventually get them as well.

i find it amazing when peeps complain about games and call them p2w.they give you a game for nothing, they dont charge a sub fee.so has a downside they ae a store with lockboxes..this hardly makes it p2w.you dont have to purchase if you dont want to and you   till get the full game and foundry to play...just no pleasing anyone these days..and also please tell me how they are suppooed t et some money back with all the millions invested.all the risk is theirs.dont like it then dont pay..but one thing is for sure i'll still be playing.

that was not aimed at you OP btw.

whew !!!

Yeah its a vicuous cycle, people want to have the cash shops to NOT have anything they are forced to buy. Yet these cash shops NEED somethign thats enticing or nobody will ever buy anything.

Really the only thing I KINDA feel that you are forced to buy is bigger bag space....there is just sooooooo much loot....I have to have it all !!

And unlike games like Torchlight/Diablo I dont feel good leaving white loot drops on the ground hahah

Looks pretty good to me.  The fact that the keys are tradable in addition to being able to buy zen with in game currency you earn by playing makes this a relatively great item for them to have to 1) make money and 2) make it so it's available to everyone who wants it.

It's good to have a little in game casino at times, so long as the only way to get it isn't just through the cash shop, but through other venues as explained in your video.  I'd say it's miles better than the system in Guild Wars 2 whereby the keys are bind when picked up, but that's probably more so an issue of convienence than anything else since gold can buy gems which can buy keys.

Interested in the bars you get as a side bonus, just in case you grind for weeks to buy dozens of boxes but don't get the one thing you wanted.  It's kind've like WoW's Justice/Valor system back when it was more valid in raids in that after so many failures you can just pick what you want after all is said and done.

That is indeed very generous of them, as they didn't have to do that (and instead just keep on milking on the fact you want that item).

When faced with strife or discontent, the true nature of a man is brought forth. It is then when we see the character of the individual. It is then we are able to tell if he is mature enough to grin and bare it, or subject his fellow man to his complaints and woes.

Perfect World, unfortunately, has a one-track mind when it comes to lockboxes and the power creep of their cash shops.  If it weren't for that, I'd still regularly be playing STO.  It'll be interested to see where it falls in the P2W spectrum.

Seems like the exact iteration of lockboxes and Lobi crystals / Lobi store, nothing new or unexpected.

And while I wrote many times on this forum as well, how I dislike (nicely put) the lockbox gamble, there's one thing on the lockbox's side: it's optional. You can stay away from them if you don't want to get involved - I never used any of them in STO for example.

Ok, I almost faltered at the ferengi ones (D'Kora rocks...) but I managed to resist :) and still hoping that Cryptic would put it in the regular Store someday. Yep, I could buy keys or the ship itself on the Exchange, but I refuse to partake in the gambling system in any way (and never sell the boxes either, I discard them right after looted)

What I tried to say, if you don't like the boxes, simply don't use them. Easy :)

GW2 does this and at points, but you can get the keys as well in game, (ofcourse they drop allot less) but you can get them. Do they drop in the game as well or buyable only?

Straight up pay-to-win.

money buys you weapons & gear = pay to win in the core essence of p2w :) (actually the worst form of p2w for the customer of such mechanics, alteast original p2w games had it like so: give money = receive item, whereas this is: give money = get a CHANCE to receive item)

And there's a reason why these weren't in the beta weekends.. to keep people believing that they might NOT include such things and cough up the money for the hideously expensive founder packs.

Currently playing: -

Waiting for: Class4.

Dead and Buried: ESO, NWO, GW2, SWTOR, Darkfall, AO, AC2, Vanguard, CoH/V, EnB, EVE, Neocron, FE, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, FFXI, FFXIV, SWG, WoW, and billions of eastern junks!

Well then this is like gw2 to a point but maybe better depending on the exchange rate, as long as there is a way to do this in game without paying that's all good in my eyes. I am keeping an eye on the game, won't mess around with it till i see more public reviews.

There is a problem with people who insist that this game is clearly P2W. Pay to win for me is a game where only players who pay can have access to powerful gears. Since there is an alternative option for those who don't want to spend a dime but have enough time to farm astral diamonds i don't see what's the problem. None is forcing anybody to play this damn F2P game, but i don't understand why people keep attacking NW. You don't like it ? Feel free to move on. Are you somehow interested? Download a 6gb game, play it and if you still have doubts uninstall it. Simple as that.

I personally think it's pay to win, but it doesn't bother me.  I disagree with people who say pay to win means players can only obtain the best gear by paying for it directly with the cash shop.  I still think it's pay to win because you can obtain the gear SO MUCH faster (as well as hit max level within a few hours with enough cash) by paying.  This is the case in most P2W games already as you can generally buy or obtain cash shop items through alternate and very grindy means.  As far as PvE goes this doesn't seem like much of an inconvenience, as all the PvE content seems doable while obtaining gear at a normal rate.  PvP on the other hand is going to be imbalanced with cash shop players, and in order to "catch up" you need to grind for an absurd amount of time.  I'm not playing the game for PvP though, so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

From what I can tell the difference between a player decked out in purple items obtained through diamonds and zens is going to be very significant compared to a person who is stuck using blues/greens till they can effectively grind their way up.  There seems to be as much as a 50% stat difference which when you apply to all the stats will easily make a player as much as 3X as strong as someone with lesser gear score.

Fortunately with the current system in place, players buying out gear and using the P2W aspect makes the grind faster for non-paying players as you can trade a few valuables you find to the P2W for diamonds (which you can exchange for Zen too).  You also obtain diamonds doing dailies and events, but the current costs of most items means it will take months to obtain certain items with diamonds.  Still, for the F2P players this just means more longetivity in the game, as there is always something to work for rather than having it all handed to you through the cash shop.

Raptr link because it's the cool new trend:

GW2 does not offer gear in the cash shop.

It offers something worse, in fact.  You have a chance of getting "permanent" items that will easily sell fro 500-1,000 gold on the auction house.  With that you could buy all the gear you want.  Luck of the draw and all that.  But again, you can trade gold for gems and then gems for the keys, so it's not like it's only available to people who buy using money (except that keys can be traded directly in Neverwinter to avoid the additional step).

In addition, with Anet's system they really try to rip you off (by comparison), while Neverwinter will eventually allow you to get almost whatever you want if you've failed enough (the bar tokens they give you when opening) as explained in the video.  Neverwinter technically should've just kept on preying on those who want something so bad that they have to buy and buy some more as opposed to being nice and just allowing them to pick something after so many failures.

But again, I don't see why someone would trash one and not the other, or trash any at all for that matter.  That is unless the keys were only available through money without exception.

Neverwinters does not offer gear in the cash shop.

The only thing that seems a little out of line is the price of bags. Cost you 10$ for 24 slots, thats a little expensive.

The game if fun and I'm having a blast in pvp with the trickster rogue. The combat is a blast and I find it much better and faster then GW2.

Well off to kick some butt,  you guys have a wonderful day :)

That's more so pay to progress than anything else.  Also, there's little difference in that and a powergamer playing for 18 hours and getting max level two to three days anyway, leaving the working man/woman in the dust.  If anything it will just help someone who only plays a few hours a week catch up with their friends (especially if one is a powergamer) and help even the playing field in terms of progression so that they can play together.

I'd be interested in hearing just what someone "wins" when they try to get a progression boost (especially when the boost can be obtained through in game currency) to match people who are ahead of him or to get to to level 60 first.  This is especially true since there is no open world pvp, and he would have to wait for others to get to his level before tackling end game content.

But I can very much understand the sentiment, as I once viewed getting a fast mount at the start as a sort of Pay to Win simply because people will be able to complete quests faster.  But that's just progressing faster and I'm not barred from getting to that level myself.

When faced with strife or discontent, the true nature of a man is brought forth. It is then when we see the character of the individual. It is then we are able to tell if he is mature enough to grin and bare it, or subject his fellow man to his complaints and woes.

GW2 doesn't do this... in GW2 boxes you can't get gear or weapons.
