DF1 atleast was close to perfect for solo roleplaying,if you want to adventure around and feel the danger, maybe find good folks while adventuring or enemies, its was really good game for that.

Unlike DF1, there is no consequence to killing someone in DFUW.

so heres the answer for OP,no.

Theres was somekind of flagging system in DF1 ,if you killed someone and got somekind of flag,i cant remember anymore, but people even exploited that, hiring someone so they could be neutral or something again, they didnt want to roleplay and if this is true that Tasos wants to support them, its just sad.

You turned red in DF1 , which came with a host on consequences. (Anyone could attack you, you couldn't enter NPC cities without getting tower zapped , ect).     In DFUW you just turn red, with no consequences. You are free to enter safe zones and NPC towns without fear of reprisal.  Another bonehead move by AV

The current system is way better than the old system.

There is no system

Exactly.

You fail to grasp that risk vs reward is a key element of a good sandbox.  There is NO reason not to be red in DFUW. /fail

Hancakes, I agree with you, but the old system was a failure.  You would have people run in front of your swing and flag you, then you died.  Very new player unfriendly.

Now we have a safe zone for newbs to learn the ropes and everything outside it is fair game.  There are still consequences because one player killed may be part of a bigger alliance and they send out people to kill the perp.  Essentially though, everyone is fair game so you better have the sounds cranked on your earphones and be on your toes.  For me, this is what is missing in games like GW2...danger from other players.  Without it a game is boring.

So heres guidebook for soloers in df uw:

if you meet someone in df uw,because theres nor consequences anymore you need to make those by yourself.

first say hi,and then:

get his facebook,twitter etc

ID

couple photos

phonenumber

ask him to deposit some money to your bank account

mother and fathers real names

address

and something that i forgot.

When that really friendly mate stabs you in the back when you are killing that bat when you have 10 HP,you know what to do since tasos dont.

im all with you that community turns against regenades and that how it should be,theres nothing wrong with roleplaying renegades. But if you played DF1 ,these renegades actually were not renegades at all, they were the carebears who exploited the whole system.

and it will be far more worse now when the system doesnt even exist.

I thought that they are taking it to the next level but it seems that they didnt know how to do it.

But it doesnt matter since there were more exploiters than gamers in DF1 so its not surprise at all.

And solo PvP is viable!

Um, yes? I'm not saying you can face-roll every group of 50 people you come across, but you can certainly take out single people or groups of two or three if you are smart. How is that not PvP viable?

Part of the trick of good PvP is knowing when to fight, not just how. I get the feeling that you think PvP is either 1) a Zerg, or 2) an OP class with an I WIN button. Don't rage at a game because you can't run around by yourself facerolling everyone in your path.

You have no idea what youre talking about in regards to my thoughts on PvP.

Anyway... Going out solo on a a character geared via solo play is largely a waste of time.  There are simply too many ways to break an engagement in DFUW.

I think your argument is disproved by the plethora of solo-pvp videos that have been released since the NDA drop. Ofc going solo isn't for everyone though.

Those "solo" player videos aren't wearing gear obtained by solo play.    Next....

Going out solo and playing the entire game solo/alone aren't the same thing.

Greymoor, we're going to have to give up. Hancakes owned us on this discussion. Clearly, you CAN NOT play DFUO as a solo player and have a good time, or win any PvP encounters. His arguments are too forceful for me.

In answer to OP, I'm in a very similar situation as you. I get busy too for extended gaming, at times. In addition to that, I am at GMT +9 which is basically Oceanic timezone. If there are any Oceanic clans, I will definitely see if they are recruiting.

If you want to solo, you can. You will play the game at the margins, like other people have said. But that can be fun for some people. Everything you do will be harder and take longer, but if you're not in a hurry and you want to explore Agon and have a sense of danger, that you will have. Some people, including me, actually like Darkfall's pve. The getting ganked is just the cost of doing business.

Agon is now smaller, so it will be harder for soloers to avoid being zerged in pvp. If the population dwindles and the game starts dying, it will be better for soloers, bu that's not really an optimal outcome for the game as a whole, obviously, and it probably won't be around for long in that case.

So I'm going to make my best effort to get in a clan and make a commitment to being on as much as I can. Preferably, it will be a clan that has a lot of players on at the times I play. Maybe after game launches, you will have a lot of opportunities to meet people and make it into a clan you like. Good luck.

There's plenty of douche bags that play solo, going around for an easy pk targetting people who is PVE-ing and completely naked whilst gathering. But you can only go so far, I'd say its not worth it if you want to play solo. You'll be missing the sieges and etc with your clan mates.

I used to play DF1 solo. It was quite enjoyable.

I used to look at the Darkfall map and carefully plan what I was going to do.

You won't get the very best kit in the game doing this, but you probably won't need the best kit anyway. You make stuff that does the job.

I did it for the exploration, feeling like a survivor, and the adrenaline rush on the rare occasion that I was found and chased.

I only got ganked a handful of times. The trick is to turn the music off and turn the environmental sounds up high over your headphones so you can hear people approach. Keep your back to the wall or sea if you can.

You can play DFUW solo. It is a challence that is for sure tho.  I would recommend running as a skimisher due to your ability to get away from zergs in lots of situations.  Also I love my skirm as I can come across 2 groups fighting. Scroatch some good gear and get out of there without anyone even noticing.

Boo ....

Solo play is as viable in DFUW as is was in DF.  It just takes some preparation.  Start out leveling up some crafting skills and putting together grab bags.  Bags that have everything you need to keep going when you get rolled.  Die, lose all your stuff, grab a bag from the bank and your set again.

I used to run around with two mounts in my bags so if one got shot out from under me I could just pop another to continue an escape.  I think escape options are the key. What was a nice and fair 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 quickly turns into a 1 on 5 or 1 on 10 due to ventrillo.  You attack someone and they call their friends ..... it is how it usually worked.  Get in and get out, it is the way to survive solo in DF.

Just put on your thick skin and give it a go.  Best way to learn is to just go out and see what works and what doesn't.  Just be prepared to lose all your stuff when you die.  Shake it off and try again ..... one lucrative kill can easily offset multiple deaths.

The problem is that zergs are all on mounts. Therefore, it doesn't matter what class you are - the important thing is to get on your mount and travel to a safe area ASAP.

If you're on foot as a skirmisher, the cavalry should catch up to you fairly quickly.

The main use of a skirmisher seems to be to catch players with their pants down while collecting resources.

The problem with specialising as a skirmisher is that warriors hold the battlefield, so I'm not sure how useful they are in the important battles.

I played Darkfall 1 from launch, although I played mostly solo, I power gamed the hell out of it and would spend basically all day every day playing it and so I did well.  I played with my partner and clan a little .If I go into Darkfall this time it'll be completely solo, and I'm too busy with life to put so much time into it this time around.

I'd like to know if it's worth playing as a solo player. I know it contains a lot of stuff for guilds and guild fights and players tend to fare better in groups. am I just wasting my time trying to play it solo?

Well being as its an MMO your suppose to play with other people.. you can run around solo if you want its now a lot easier as there are 100% safe zones.. but still out in the real would you will get stomped on by groups or by people woh have played more than you.

You can play outside of the safe zones solo. If you're soloing, just stay out of the centre of the map - keep to the edges.

PvPers seem to gravitate towards the mainland because they are looking for a high concentration of people with the certainty of PvP.

This is a video of me going through n00b feats SOLO.

If you go towards the end you will see that I got some nice rewards.  I'll continue to make videos of me SOLO advancing my character.
