Actually, a $25 pledge gets you a copy of the game +first month. And some other cool stuff. Not a bad price for a great MMO. So if you are actually interested, this would be the way to go. And you aren't charged unless it funds.

Don't like that so far all the PvP focus is about harassing / annoying other players.. this might be something FFA / gankers like, but it's not my idea of fun. Same with this last update, the only bit of PvP info that was in there, was about burning down somebody else's house. Doesn't sound "fun" to me (neither does spending 1-2-3 weeks gathering resources to build that sucker in the first place, only to have to redo it 1 week later)

As for crafter escort missions... no thanks. Replacing the crafter NPC by a human, doesn't make it any more fun.

 I do like the twist here. It will put a slightly new spin, and some motivation into "defending your realm". This new thought process of keep trading as the path of least resistance for progression has really left a sour taste in my mouth with RvR these days.

When theres a call to arms, and the enemy has crossed your border, well i think this is going to be pretty exciting. Obviously the closer you are to the capital, the safer you are. He's also said the map is extremelly large..

There are a lot of details that need to brought to light of course, but i like what i see so far.

I wasn't aware there was actually a RvR update yet at all. This was more a housing update i thought. I'd be surprised if the extent of the warfare here was just burning houses down.

I thought the same thing. I see no "fun" in it at all. People will be griefing construction sites like crazy. And...if they take your resources, you will be gathering them all over again before you can rebuild it...

I commend them on such a robust system, but I see no good coming out of it. I just wish MMO developers would make a crafting system this good for PVE games.

Isn't that what minecraft did? If i recall correctly, you didn't have any skill but there was monsters.

 

About burning a house not being fun, did you forget you could also capture it? I don't think there will be that many houses, but a lot more keeps, and they won't be that easy to burn down.

Besides, if you take weeks to get some materials, i don't know about you, but i would use it for a weapon or an armor, not for a house...

 

About PvP being about harassing other players, what did you expect? It's a RvR game, the goal is to attack and capture/destroy enemy structures, for what other purpose would you fight? If there is no meaning then it's no better than instanced PvP. It's not like you can't protect your house with walls, towers and such. The players will probably get together and form cities protected by structures, and that won't be easy to take.

 

I think i get the problem. They used houses in the video for the examples, so you thought "Yay, i'll get to build a house!", then "But what is that system, my house will be burned down within a week!", and you totally forgot about the core of the game.

 

About human crafter not being different from NPC, i disagree. Although they won't have any fighting power, they won't have problems like stupid behavior or pathing, and they will be able to tell you if somebody try to get behind you. You will be able to focus on fighting without needing to watch over them. If they have a problem, they will tell you.

If you still don't like it, then just do something else. You'll get money for fighting for your realm, so you can just leave it to someone else and buy your stuff with the money you earned.

What is the point of defending your house if you can "respawn it" with your blueprint at no cost(he said it will cost nothing). Some one burns your stucture down, so what, I got a blueprint. What is the risk, not to get pillaged while you are building your structure? Very unimpressive mechanics, it's just a way to rinse and repeat with no real risk. Why would I even bother to go burn some ones structure down if they are going to recreate it after I do so? Once you have a blueprint your structure is indestructable in a sense, thats pretty shallow.

he never said it will cost nothing, otoh the blueprint will cost nothing. so maybe u got confused there?

Somehow, i doubt there is no penalty for having your house burnt to a crisp, or, that burning folks homes is the only "reward" for RvR.

But maybe thats just me being overly optimistic.

Once you have a blueprint your structure is indestructable in a sense, thats pretty shallow. 

he never said it will cost nothing, otoh the blueprint will cost nothing. so maybe u got confused there?

7:15 in the video, maybe misinterpreting his words? just sounded like the blueprints was like a free hard drive backup.

Attacking something owned by the enemy isnt "harrassing" them.  This is a PvP game.  Everyone is there to PvP.  You are creating an opportunity for PvP when you attack something.

This is a super ambitious crafting system. Do we know if it still pretty much in the concept stage or are there a few renders of the basic system in action?

There is a difference between capturing forward points and fighting other people for teh realm! and for fun of the game  vs. burning down houses, ganking, being a brat and other forms of "pseudo PvP" where the incentive of your actions is knowing you are making somebody else miserable.

 

The first form of PvP I like.. the second form, not so much.  And we all know how the second form usually ends up.. empty servers and ghost towns (Mordred anyone?!)

Where did he say that? Blueprints do not give you free "respawns." it's merely a way for you to save the layout/design of your structure, I would think it will still cost you the resources, etc to rebuild it again.

No one forces you to build your house out there, as MJ pointed out there's the safe area where you can build your house.

 

However building a house on the RVR area, the frontier, will give you bonuses for doing so.

 

Also you seem to be forgetting, by people building houses out there naturally they will want them to be protected. I mean if you go out into the wild and plop down your house near the enemy realm what would you expect to happen?

It would make more logical sense for people to say "hey, I want to build my house out here in the frontier but I don't want it to be a sitting target for the enemy realm! Ss I'll go build it here with the nearby keep and walls around it so that it is protected!"

Then you have blue prints, which allows people who lose their house to rebuild it witht he same layout/design, so it's not like they "lose" all the work they put into customizing the house, rather they just lose the money/resources.

 

It's a Risk vs Reward thing to build out there. WE don't know what the "bonuses" are for doing so yet nor the finer detail sin terms of cost, blueprints, etc.

I failt o see how that's considered "griefing." it's a PVP game, you will kill other players. There's a difference between camping someone's corpse  and PVP'ing them in the wild.
