This is an amazing change. In Skyrim, even though Stormcloaks and the Empire are at war with the khajiit (or don't like them)...the Khajiit can still be found roaming Skyrim trading their goods.

This is a great victory for real Elder Scrolls fans.

Imagine if in WoW, Alliance and Horde could talk and group with each other. It would completely change the dynamic and atmosphere of the game. More so for this game, since RvR is such a major part of it. The feeling that you get from the game adds to the experience. This desicion makes the feeling of fighting for a particular faction much more meaningless, so the RvR aspect won't be as good as it could have been.

In WoW beta, for over 9 months the Foresaken could speak common and would chat with the humans all the time. Which was also the start of initial Terran Mill fun and drama that became the first real open-world PvP that WoW had consistently.

The spying aspect and putting your trust in someone who could actually understand them was great and a lot of outraged happened when it was taken away. Regardless, thinking that false restrictions assist with RvR is idiotic. Welcome to 2013, things have changed.

What makes something a "false restriction?" Why are you guys always making up terms. "Real ...", "true ...", "false ..."

And that thing was just for frosaken and they couldn't group with alliance. It would have been way different if there were no barriers between all races. And it does help with RvR. That's why on GW2 you fight people from other servers. The feeling of fighting for a faction or server is different. I think they way they explained how the game was going to be in the beginning would have been much more interesting. Now I just go and fighting a bunch of people at random without anything that sets them apart except that their name is red.

They will probably change that soon and maybe you can hold hands and dance with the other factions or maybe join all 3 and play jump rope together. This thing is turning into a joke of who cries the most and they are now showing that they will bend to whoever that is. My out look for this game has just fallen.

But who would say ES Adventures: Redguard was "true" elder scrolls. The reason I'm arguing about this is to try to make people understand that it's dumb to say "this is what a REAL/TRUE (w/e game) should be like". People are more happy now because they think this is more true to elder scrolls, but then they say the series should evolve. So now that something new was going to come out, they complain. Such contradictions...

This is just not true mate. I want an mmo elders scroll with a huge seamless world, with  a zillion things to do like exploring ,crafting, socializing and no pvp at all. Who says mmos have to be about factions and pvp?

Why dont you people support a daoc unchained with no pve and let this be a pve haven and time will tell which will survive and gather the most interest. My bet the pve teso would be the winner.

As it stands now nobody is happy..

All this BS in the forums about "I want... I want... I want..." Someday you people will realize that the world doesn't revolve around you, and that this entitled mentality destroys art.

All you really want is a repackaged, resealed version of everything that you've played before. You fear the new and unknown without realizing that, at one time in your life, everything was unknown and interesting, and that you discovered you liked those things. The only way you're ever going to discover new things to like now is if someone crams them down your throat.

its hilarious when people think only a real elder scrolls fan is one that agrees with them! LOL

i have news for you, i like the elder scrolls games too but i am also a fan of mmo's. i don't want the MMO to be the exact same thing as the single player game.

if that is what you want you may as well just wait for the next ES single player game and save yourself a lot of time complaining about this MMO

Using that same logic though...

I dont want the MMO to be radically different from the single player games. If that is what you want you may as well just wait for another MMO that isn't ESO and save yourself a lot of time complaining about this MMO.

So I mean... yeah... people will have different opinions.

pretty much this. Why have an Elder Scrolls game at all, if it isn't going to be anything like Elder Scrolls? Then it can be like any other MMO...and if that is the case...why have it be Elder Scrolls to begin with?

It has to be radically different to be an MMO. That's why its an MMO and not a single player game. And even with this change it's still going to be nothing like single player elder scrolls game. This is an Elder Scrolls game.

Na it'll be some other abomination. If they had stuck to making Elder Scrolls a MMO, they could have had one of the best PVE MMOs in a long time. Instead they want to be the one stop shop for all of your pve, pvp, and dungeon crawling needs.Of course it's all going to have to be fair which means constant nerf/rebalancing of classes, instancing, and general homogenization.

That's why it was never on top of my to watch list, well that and the fact that Bethesda refused to have any part of it (and that alone speaks volumes about what Zenimax wanted to do with it in the first place.)

After seeing how they are doing crafting this is reminding me more and more of DAoC. I dont think they would mess up faction pride by having everyone team together from every faction unless the game was failing and there was not enough players to support teaming.

One of the keys to being a good game designer is to know when to NOT listen to the fanbase.  In this instance, you design a game around locked factions, locked zones and locked faction communication.  This is meant to create faction pride and to a greater extent, faction hatred.

Now ESO is suffering from an identity crisis.  No one is going to care once they reach max level and the shackles are dropped.  How can you have pride for or hatred against factions that you are now friends with?  I'm not even suggesting that being able to play with everyone is a bad thing.  However, I think it is a bad thing when you combine it with a leveling experience that is meant to lock it out.  Either do one or the other, not both.  It doesn't make sense and now PvP is nothing more than a three-way death match for no reason.  It's literally DAoC PvP without any rhyme or reason.  They took away one of the most important aspects of what made the RvRvR so good.

The WHY.

And off topic.  I hate the instancing that this game will have in the PvP areas.  Why is it that games from a decade or more ago can handle hundreds of players in the same area, and with all the technological advancements we have now, no damn AAA game developer can manage to pull it off?  Or housing?  Or ships?

This is a money grab.  I bet bethesda is crapping their pants right now.  Matt Firor and Zenimax is just about to destroy their franchise in the online space.

There's roughly 24 other things they need to fix before truly calling this an Elder Scrolls game.

2002 was great for DAoC, sure. This game should just change it's title and not be considered an ES game anyway.

a yo ho ho

I want is not wrong in anyway . As a consumer of and mmo product i want to invest my money and energy in it is important that a certain criteria is met. In this case teso has a history of being just a huge open world and producing an mmo worthy of its history without all this pvp garbage would actually be something new in the mmo world. I say the first who produce and mmo with a huge open world and no pvp will be a huge success. Cause there are a zillion more mmo players who prefer pve rather then pvp. Dont understand why the devs and mmo companies have nt figured that simple equation out yet..

So, for those who've been living under a rock these last couple of days, Matt Firor and the team at Zenimax have made a few REALLY COOL decisions... They've decided that it would be  a good idea to destroy any sense of faction pride that they had going. Based on the whining of a few Elder Scrolls fans who will now be adding 2 more months to their subscription plans before putting it on the shelf for good (to go through the extra content) now once you hit 50, you can GROUP WITH, and CHAT WITH people of other factions... I think the people at MMMORPG.com are supporting this decision, since I've seen other similar threads LOCKED, instead of allowing us to discuss how Zenimax destroyed the game....

Now, Matt Firor most llikely didn't want this stupid crap, BUT, guess what? He's still there... he hasn't resigned.. As far as I'm concerned, that's his official stamp of approval on the destruction of any hope of good RvR that this game may have had.

AD + EP + DC = One Faction, United Against NPC's in a Cooperative Hand-holding carebear game... Discuss.

 Yee gods! Melodrama much?

No one is backstabbing anyone... nothing is ruined... people could already talk through IM, ventrilo, whatever... if they're going to coordinate realm point (or whatever they call it) farming, they would find a way to do it anyway.

You're behaving exactly likt the whiners...actually, you ARE whining.

It might still be a great PvE game, but I honestly don't know what this decision does long term to RvR and the faction pride they were looking for. I hadn't realized how much I missed 3 faction frontier warfare until it was dangled in front of me again.

I'm going to stick by my philosophy of 'We'll know when we play it', before I go jumping to major conclusions about the game.

I am going to guess you are a hardcore DaoC player if you actually think one must be completely segregated to have any pride in your faction.

I sure dont recall a lack of pride in being an elf in EQ1, or being a rebel in SWG...hell there were a large group of Imperial players that would march in formation "protecting" Theed, sure didnt see anything like that in DaoC, oh wait...there was nobody to protect the citties FROM in that game.

I dont recall members of the separtists having pride issues in taking control of Omni-Tek controlled areas in Anarchy Online.

I sure dont recall any pride issues with Horde players in WoW.

Your idea of "pride" is weak if just being allowed to step into another factions land removes it from you. But that was the idea behind DaoCs factions...they said they had to create the pride for you.

OP this site is strange place. around 60% of the people want every game to be the same though the say they want different, and around 20% of that 60 rail against the game when it comes out, only to repeat the cycle every few months.

About 40% of us prefer depth over dragons, and game play over graphics. Most of the 40% have given up on even talking to that 60%

When I eat chocolate chip pie it just doesn't feel like chocolate chip cookies. The texture, the consistency, it's just not the same and this is disappointing.

So at the endgame, things begin to open up and you can group up, chat, and run dungeons with players of other factions. The one area where things remain separate is, of course, the Alliance War in Cyrodiil." - Link

Thats a fail. Sad!!!!! Well we almost had a good game. My hope now rests in Wildstar

Nope this send up some really bad warning signs. Faction pride wont be there. AvA will have spies and will mess up AvA. If PvE content is so generic that any faction can play them mean the story wont be that great. I was expecting the faction war to be a large part of the story. Again, I will wait for someone to do 3 faction war right. First MMO in a long time to get me really excited and in one quote I am not sure I will even play beta.

Think your missing the point to be honest, nothing has changed in terms of the PVP, its the same multi instanced (campaigns) that it was in the beginning, all thats happened is that now, at the end game, the PVE players will be able to join other PVE players in the other realms, in dungeons etc, these players may never ever join in the PVP side of the game, much the same as some of the PVP players may well not do anything outside of Cyrodil, nothing has been taken away from the PVP side of it, so faction pride isnt an issue, or if it is, then its an issue that was present long before the PVE side of the game was expanded.

Vanguard is the MMO you're looking for. Huge success there.

You missed my point entirely. You do yourself a disservice by trying to dictate what an artist should or shouldn't do. The point I'm making has nothing to do with being a consumer, and everything to do with censoring and editing art to make it fit into your box of acceptability.

When you create defined borders around an idea, you lose the chance for the idea to blossom and become something unique and amazing, and therefore you miss the chance to have a new experience. All for the sake of you wanting something that you already have.
