I guess they don't really have anything to lose if they don't release any expansions. I have no idea what it cost to develop GW2, but at 3 million sells at 60 bucks a pop (some of them are more for the collector's pack) I'd hope that'd net them a pretty good profit. I think it'd be a weird philosophy to just keep releasing small content patches instead of an expansion you can charge for though. If you're not going to expand on the game then you're going to have to move onto developing something totally new to bring in more money. |

I literally though you were linking that to show everyone the lack of content...if you linked that to somehow show "all the content updates", I really feel sympathy. Not to crap on the Haloween update, it was indeed pretty badass, but using conent that can no longer be accessed to prove content updates, is quite a desprate grasp. If there were so many large updates, you should be able to off hand mention something other than a no longer accessable holiday event lol. |

If they actually fix the big problems it's probably a good thing. Lots to fix though.
Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure. |

I have to admit I'm totally confused by this news. We know afrer launch they broke the staff up into smaller units, one for ongoing core game development, one for live content and, I thought, almost half the company was working on expansion content. It sounds to me like they have had half the company working on the getting game ready for release in the East, rather than working on an expansion. I actually had assumed that NCSoft would Easternize the game with it's own staff, with some supervision from Arenanet, not have Arenanet waste half it's resources doing the conversion?!?!?! I'm really confused. If their artists/modelers haven't been working on an expansion, what the heck have they been working on? It certainly isn't the Live Content. (Well, obviously, some modelers/artists are working on that, but we aren't seeing a company's worth of work output). It also isn't Gem Store weapon/armor skins, another area where they have fallen flat on their faces vs. expectations. Are they making Easternized armor, weapons and character models? I don't get it. I'm a huge fan of the game and still having a lot of fun playing, but any excuses I've made for the disappointment in the ongoing development of the game hinged on the assumption that half of Arenanet was hard at work on an expansion. If that's not the case, I'm befuddled. Want to know more about GW2 and why there is so much buzz? Start here: Guild Wars 2 Mass Info for the Uninitiated |

Originally posted by Kuppa The main thing I am looking at for expansion material are new classes, I hear the first GW1 was wonderful with that. The other being brand new lands to explore. So much of the current map is not being used and is begging for new zones to be made. If they can pull that off in content updates I'll be fine but sadly I think thsoe are to huge a hurdle and are more suited for expansion materials.
Sadly with this news, it becomes more apparent my time in GW2 is growing shorter as we move ever closer to NWO and ESO release. Agree with you about NWO (although it is a catchy game and could sneak up and continue to grow) but ESO is the next monster in waiting. Now I am not saying it's gonna be the next WoW so dont take my remarks out of context but I would bet a lifetimes paycheck that it will sell more then GW2 ever dreamed of. |

Seems foolish from business perspective. Personally I like to see expansions on games that I play, it's so exciting when the game gets closer to a big expansion and then you get a ton of treats at once. I also sometimes go back to check on an older game I've played when they release expansion, not going to happen with just some meaty patch.
Though there's the downside since the big expansions has the possibility to ruin something in a single massive blow. Blizzard is very good at making their game worse every expansion, for me at least, seems though like there's a perfectly nice bunch of happy customers too :) |

Originally posted by Kuppa I don't think he's counting content that cannot be replayed right here, right now. I don't know why though. Something doesn't add up. This is what NCSOFT said in their conference call about the GW2 expansion on Nov-2012 In terms of the Guild War 2 expansion pack, that also in line with the China launch are the two big events that we have for next year and for right now, internally, we are in the process of trying to coordinate those two events. If I am up-to-date on my financial compliance laws, you can not lie in an earnings conference call. So either we have ANet's parent company NCSoft being lied to by ANet or something else is going on. It is also perfectly feasible ANet wants to squash any 'exp' talk to boost their base GW2 sales. Either way, someone is lying and my guess is that NCSoft isn't the one lying since that one carries jail-time. Wonder why there seems to be more haters on the internet? Read this by an actual marketing guy to find out why. |

Originally posted by Eir_S GW2 had 2 extra campaigns and one expansion. The 2 campaigns had 2 new classes each, the expansion none. I think it is likely that GW2s expansion instead will have 1 new class and one new race. I am more interested if they plan to make a new campaign (Cantha? Elona?) or if they want to add more content like the ring of fire to Tyria. |

I don't anticipate a campaign/expansion until this September or even later. The original GW came out back in April 2005 and it didn't have the first campaign until April 2006. Back in those days, GW didn't even have an in-game shop to supplement them financially. They had enough money to last them a whole year before the first campaign came out. Now in GW 2, not only they have the in-game store but also the money they've made since 2005. So I don't think they're hurting for money and need the money bad enough to push out an expansion pack or campaign only 6 months after releasing GW 2. I might be wrong but I don't think there is a B2P or P2P game releases new expansion pack just 6 months after the main game came out. |

Originally posted by reef22 The team now on the other hand is 10 times larger so the question is just how much money they cn bring in on the gemstore. I assume there will be an expansion out late this year, unless the Chinese launch will be during the summer and really earn in cash, then they can probably wait and run Wows 2 years between each expansion time. |

This has to be a downer to some. Again this harkens back to GW2 maybe costing more than we might hink. If the profit margin isn't right, they wont be in any hurry to do it again.
