Isn't there some new browser-based game in the works or something? Just hype I'm thinking. His glory days have long since passed. "Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. It is a brand on the imagination that affects the individual who has suffered it, forever." - Noam Chomsky |

"Back from a stint in outer space--literally--famed video game designer Richard Garriott has returned to his roots with a new social gaming start-up, Portalarium. Known as "Lord British" and considered one of the industry's legends for his pioneering work on Ultima and Ultima Online, as well as his leading roles on Lineage, City of Heroes, and Tabula Rasa, Garriott most recently grabbed headlines by paying eight figures for a trip aboard a Russian rocket to the International Space Station." That's my guess. "Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. It is a brand on the imagination that affects the individual who has suffered it, forever." - Noam Chomsky |

Unless it's UO 2, I really don't care.

Might be for the Ultima Forever release coming soon. http://ultimaforever.com/ Edit: I wonder when developers will start realising Android is quickly taking over the market and start developing for it first?! :) Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

Guys.......You all are missing somthing really obvious....... It doesn't say "Richard Garriot Presents" It says "Lord British Presents" Lord British is his alterego associated with the Ultima Series and Ultima Online. I really don't think he is going to use his popular alterego to promote a crappy Facebook game. It could be Ultima Online 2, after all. Maybe EA thinks that's the right time to do it, since sandboxes are starting to become popular.

It also says.... "
Ultimate RPGRichard “Lord British” Garriott makes his triumphant return to the role-playing game genre with the Ultimate RPG. Richard is the legendary game designer who wrote the book on successful RPGs with his Ultima series of fantasy games from the early 1980s to the late 1990s and forged the MMO genre through the turn of the century. Now with mobile and social media startup, Portalarium, he plans to bring the Utlimate RPG to today’s new platforms and play styles.
While your avatar’s journey in Britannia may have come to an end, Lord British and his team, many of whom have shared in the creation of these games for many many years, have begun work on a new adventure for you. It will be delivered on mobile and social platforms as well as traditional PC platforms. The genesis of the new world will begin small, and grow with player participation and input. We look forward to sharing more details with you as they develop. Come join us in creation of the next Ultimate RPG!" |

As much as many older players long for the next UO, I won't get excited about this. I did subscribe to see what it is all about though.

Mr. Garriott's roots lay in single player CRPGs, and I hope this will be his return to them. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind some online functionality, but I don't have much interest in another full blown MMORPG from him. Unless of course it's like Tabula Rasa, in which case a pack of rabid cybernetic zombie wolves with laser eyes couldn't keep me away from the game. Edit: And comparing Garriot to some disease ridden whore who drinks more semen in one night than most prostitutes & pornstars do in their entire careers is just distasteful. Seriously, it would be safer to have sex with the rotting corpse of Rock Hudson than with Snooki. BLECH. Billy Mays is more accurate, and funny. Plus you know, he's awesome. |
