Yes. It's not a make-or-break issue, but cross-promotions, cash shops and veteran perks all fall into a category of things that demotivate me a little or make me not want to associate with the people who have them. |

No, as long as its just fluff and not some item to provide them an advantage in game.

Originally posted by Edeus You do realize that some food allergies are life threatening to the people involved? So these parents are villians perhaps for trying to keep their daughter from dying? I have a co-worker who has an allergy to corn products, and it literally almost killed him before they managed to identify the problem. Now if he even gets a wif of popcorn from the microwaves it makes him physically ill, so we all agreed to not cook popcorn on the floor in consideration of his issue. Who really is being the entitled ones here? Oh yeah, and about the OP, I only get mild annoyed when people get those items that I can't, but usually they are never so great that I'm really feeling all that put out.

I'm baffled at how we can get red hot over that doesn't bother us... |

Originally posted by Sijjistoryus No. However it does bother when it seems the game creators have spent more of their time and effort creating this needless fluff than on the game itself. STO at launch I feel is a perfect example of this type of behavior.

Nope, I don't care about those at all. As long as those are purley vanity stuff that doesn't affect balance it's perfectly fine. People seem to enjoy that kind of swag so don't see why developers shouldn't do it. It doesn't hurt anyone. Personally, even when I have pre-order minipets or whatever I forget about using them anyway and they just end up clogging mule alt/bank space. |

Originally posted by Sijjistoryus It took 10 pages, but we finally get to the heart of your issue - entitlement and the contention that others should not be allowed to have toys that you don't have.
EDIT: And, YES, a Borg skin is the same as a pink hat.

In 15 years of online gaming there has never been an ingame item that I would even cross the road for. Fancy mount, shiny spaceship, bonus race to play, whatever... I couldn't care less. They're just pixels on a screen.

It doesn't bother me. I think pre-orders for sure should get something since they took a leap of faith to some degree. What would bother me is if an item was given as a reward for pre-order and then later ended up purchasable in the cash shop. . I have never been bothered because I do not know what was obtained that way. if I see someone with a cool outfit or pet. . I think . . cool outfit or pet. This is the same when I see an awesome car. . I think. . awesome car. I wish I had one but I don't care that the other guy does and I don't. I have had a few people in Fallen Earth ask me where I got the horse. . they either say. . 'nice'. . 'lucky you' or 'cool'. Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is! |

entitlement .. lol that word is really being used entirely too loosely in the MMO environment. the idea of entitlement is used to describe drug addicts who are getting free drugs and medical care at the tax payers expense. we are paying for a game and would PREFER that items available in game are available to everyone through in game progress. we aren't talking about welfare epics where everyone is "entitled" (still not a very good use of the word) to top end gear even if they choose not to take part in a particular part of the game. we are willing to work for it in game, I at least would be ecstatic if it were extremely rare and hard to get. I just think it's lame that I have to go to a convention that I would otherwise have little interest in going to if I want access to something. I wouldn't even care if they were available at conventions or whatever as long as they were at least very difficultly attainable through ingame progress. which is why I ultimately bought GW2 anyway .. because at least there I can farm ludicrous amounts of gold and trade them for cash shop items. LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity. |
