This was the Holiday Event that people who hated Holiday Events would use to support their arguements.

I for one agree with them. I generally like Holiday Events, but this one was an abomination and a signal that the devs had given up on SWG.

Seriously, if you get a quest to dip your twig and berries in a chocolate fountain... it says something about how seriously they're taking their jobs.

If the devs had given up on SWG, they would not have done anything at all. SOE is known for not doing anything with their games ie Vanguard, that was a sign they had given up on that game. Also the Matrx did not have anythig done to it either in its final months.  SWTOR has not had an event just tokens of affection to buy in the Cartel market.

The EFOL had 3 or 4 years on it, and SOE even renewed the licence again after it. So if they had given up on it, they would not have done that.

From what I could tell it was LA not giving permission to SOE to do the really cool stuff.

None of the quests askied you dip your twig and berries in a chocolate fountain. It was only a added bonus for some items to give you buff, which I did not do. The quests were 1) finding a partner for a NPC and 2) help the love sage find his way again and prove that there is love in the crazy galaxy, which led to finding and defeating Mr Hate with love instead of violence. Also for collections/badges you had to find several love cards scattered about the place, and find Kyoopid who could pop up on the hour in either Keren, Tyrena or one of the Ewok Villages on Endor.

I admit it was not the greatest event and I only did one character each year, whereas other events I tried to do on as many characters as I could, but it was still something, and something to do.What would you have done for Valentines Day? I think it was adequate for what it was for and the reason people hated it was because it was all lovey dovey and not guns blazing action, but the Empire is all about hate, whereas the Republic is about love trying not to hate. If you had real relationships in game or played with your partner then it probably would have been more viable / acceptable.

Oh my apologies, so it wasn't a 'quest' per se... but it was there, I remember that much. I remember the overwhelming feeling that SOE was mocking us as we were performing these tasks. Many of the NGE questlines had me wondering if SOE was running some sort of government social experiment to see how much we could take before going completely insane.

LOL! I saw one of these cupid ewoks "entangled" on a halloween web with a huge pet spider poised to devour it. At least some good came out of those care bear knock-offs.

Ewoks were chosen as they look like teddy bears, and teddy bears are one of the most commonly purchased items at Valentines Day

Things like this specifically make me not miss the game and are a perfect example of the overall mismanagement of SOE. Instead of wasting limited programmer time on stupid shit like this, they could have directed the effort at things that actually "needed work". Like the shitty NGE engine, rubber banding, fixing bugs, etc etc. Instead you got this crap and "life day" BS and the trick or treat nonsense. And yes, all that is an indication that SOE gave up on SWG long, long before the closing bell. (Stupid window dressing vs meaningful development.)

Pretty much sums up why many people could never come back to the game. To still have the same rubberbanding and bug issues years after release while newer games were releasing with more polish is just unnacceptable. I tried coming back around 2008 and after a couple hours  of NPCs being stuck in walls as well as in the ocean I logged off for good. 

And seriously....Ewoks? Those were the stupidest things to come in the Star Wars Universe next to Gungans.

Ewoks are part of Star Wars, whether you like it or not, and not exclusive to SWG

All MMOs Valentine day events are bit suspect as it is hard to have fun with something that is serious and getting in touch with your feelings. The Ewok Fetsival of Love is the best of all MMOs Valentine Day event but it is not the event that people are hating it is the Ewoks, and that is Star Wars itself.

If you did the quest to find a partner for a NPC, then Ewoks are not part of it.

They did fix it up. Those things could not be fixed COMPLETLEY as the NGE mixed with CU mixed with pre-CU made it impossible to fix, without shutting the game for a long time, and rewriting the game from the ground up. SOE just made the best of what they had.

SWTOR is the NGE written from the ground up and still has lag when too many people get on screen. This event is FAR FAR better than SWTORs event.

Plus after this SOE did many many more things to SWG, and it was turning out to be a great game. GCW City invasions, GCW 2 space invasions, Beast levelling via mission terminals made levelling a pet a joy than a pain, Bounty Hunting in space and not just ground, and that was stuff only done in the last year of its life. To come would have been Chronicles 2 which would make it more fun, and there was Atmospheric Flight. SWTOR players can only dream of getting that stuff. If the game had carried on, plenty more stuff would have been done.

SOE never gave up on SWG even after the closure announcement. EA/BW have given up on SWTOR.

All SWTOR is is a better version of the NGEs legacy series of quests,  with similar limited "iconic" professions, minus a whole load of features. SWGs engine handled many more people than SWTOR, and at least SWG has an excuse with all the various code and changes that led to all the slow down later on. SWTOR should have been a whole lot better and smoother, but has not been since the go, and why Ilum got pulled.

The EFOL event is better than SWTORs Valentines event because there is none, and just CM purchases
