I admit to refusing to even try Eve beacause I know the entry barrior is so steep. So this defenitely is some sort of factor in getting new palyers to the game. But it's their game and they can run it however they want.

EVE is the biggest RMT MMO out there and most people dont realise or refuse to see this fact. You see you can, for real money, buy monthly gamecards which can, completely legally, be converted into game currency. With this game currency you can buy basically everything, including a high skilled character as they are sold, again completely legally in the character bazaar. So in other words, you dont need to spend two years to be able to be competetive. Just open your wallet, for a couple of houndreds, get a 50 million SP character and get the best ships out there and once you learn the ropes, you can be the baddest pilot out there. This game is the biggest pay 2 win game out there and that is why I wont be playing it, ever. |

Originally posted by zomard100 But what's the point? Flying around and randomly PK'ing people is much easier, and arguable more fun in 99/100 themepark MMOs. You won't be able to fit even a Frigate at Tech II all around in less than a month - and that same boat will cost you more than you can make running lvl1 missions for a month. You could mine and sell for $ but without a dedicated hauler/mining ship the profit gain per hour is quite low (though I'm sure the new mining Frigate helps) but it's boring as sin. I can make close to 8 million in an hour of mining, but I've got a mining ship (Retreiver) and Mining/Refining 5 + sub skills. The new mining frigate might help the profit per hour a bit though. You also won't survive a single PvP encounter against anything other than a complete noob without T2 modules and weapons. You won't have a jump clone (no standing) so you'll have no implants to speed up your training a bit. And Gallente are dominating FW anyway - so your 76 kills mean nothing in the war effort. EvE is a game that just simply doesn't live up to the dream it lures players in with. Great things can and do happen in EvE, moments unlike those in any other MMORPG out right now... but the vast majority of the time, it's simply boring. I ran Lvl 3's and mined till my eyes bled saving the isk to buy a BS while I was training the skills to fly and fit it correctly. I didn't come anywhere CLOSE to being able to afford the ship let alone the insurance, modules, rigs, ammo, weapons etc. so I bought a Plex. Yamoto is right - EvE is really a HUGE RMT scam. My account is still active and skills are training (hurray Shield Management V taking 13+ days..) ONLY because I am waiting to see what the summer expansion is going to be all about. MMO History: |

Originally posted by ssunatzu Actually, it takes only about two months before you're ready if you work hard enough, are in a good corp, and are very adaptive. Yeah you may lose your ship usually but thats normal game mechanics. It depends on what you want to do that makes you take "2 years" or such.

Disturbing, but common, point of view: "This game is not for me, nobody should play it"

Originally posted by ssunatzu I can see where you're coming from and yes 2 years is a good number for being awsomeish on EvE. However that to most players isn't a bad thing. Old timers like myself remember games being hardcore. EQ1 and UO at launch had a lot in common with EVE. Rather than bash the game I would have been constructive and said don't play this game unless you want a hardcore experience. |

i tried the free tial 2 weeks ago, and i absolutely recomend the game, its fun in the moment you start understanding how the world works, the only reason i did not subscribed its because the game will consume me to death and i just stoped playing the trial for my own safety in the matter, but i absolutely recommend people to try it, its a fantastic universe with a unique atmosphere.

CCP can intervene whenever they want to discuss this with me but I doubt they will. So in my small way, I will try to make a difference to the gaming community. Thank you for posting.
your overblown sense of entitlement and worth is just staggering, if EVE was say like WOW what you are in fact saying is, from day one you want to be able to do end game, however as EVE is a "sandbox" you cant compare "leveling" with skill progression, a time sink is required by all of the genre.
Oh and even if you did want to play it like a Themepark game till you felt worthy or entitled in your case, you can grind the missions, but thats not all, from day one you should join a CORP as that is the real reason of EVE, new player friendly corps will assist and guide and even give you work to do, and if you lose your ship many of the corps will replace your ship...
However all this means nothing if your not a corp team player (whole point of game) and your just a over reaching over self-entitled solo player with little ship syndrom. Waiting for CCP to contact me, wow, just wow...... There is no God, there is no Devil, nor Angels and Demons, there is only us, surely thats bad enough, for no creature is able to commit such acts of hate and love, sometimes in the same day. |

OP, you're doing it wrong.
too much "me", not enough "we".
while I don't advice people rushing into nullsec, because I've seen 1 week-old characters announce in local that there are 3 reds on gate (there were 3 guristas BS)... most pilots can fit a meta doctrine ship within a few months confortably.
I'm 4 years old and die on regular basis in pvp... I don't see what age has to do with it.

Originally posted by ssunatzu I loved this game, played for 5 years and don't play anymore but... No EVE is what you make of it. Some of it is character skill, most is what actions the player takes (like 95%). Yes, EVE is 100% about earning ISK, but there are zillions of ways to do it. Freedom of choice is yours, that is why it is a sandbox. EVE is a slow game for sure with its skill learning time, but the thing is it is set up in such a way that the entire game is slow. I mean it takes real days to manufacture stuff or to research. The stuff that takes a long time is hands off so you can go do other stuff with your corp, for example, while you make a huge batch of ships. However, you can be competitive early on, it depends on what you want to do with the skills you got. To me, the biggest learning curve, and one that can take longer than the skills your character learns, is to figure out how other players play the game and then manipulate them. Character development takes no grind though. Even ISK acquisition does not really need grind if you play the market, for example. Or you can choose to grind ISK by doing missions or mining, up to you. That is the beauty of EVE : it is lots of things to lots of people, but rushing to endgame in a month and competing with the Big Boys is not part of it. Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994. |
