I got wind of this recently, and thought I'd share it with other Star Wars fans.

New Republic: Obsidian Actively Pitching More Star Wars

Speaking in an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, Urquhart described in passion his interest in the Star Wars Universe and how Obsidian can easily fit into one of the many eras the overarching plot takes place during. In fact, Obsidian already approached LucasArts back in the day to follow it up.

“We pitched a between-Episode III and Episode IV game. Because we think that timeframe is super interesting. It’s the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi, it’s Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is OK.”

“You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few. So it was an interesting time to set a game, and you know, Chris Avellone came up with a really cool story.”

“We haven’t [talked with Disney yet]. We’re kind of waiting for the smoke to clear. But that’s one of my next big things to do. To kind of go over there and [get the ball rolling again].”

Single player, or MMORPG?  No word yet, but they want to approach Disney with their ideas first before revealing too much, so it seems.  Hopefully they will improve upon customization, based on feedback, this time around.

If Obsidian Entertaintment does not have any experience with MMOs they better stick with single player games or they will get the same hate that BioWare got :)

Considering that they made KOTOR 2, I would say it would be another single player game. Maybe continuation of KOTOR... I am sure they read posts on this forum and they saw how many people would like to have KOTOR 3.

No matter, I will be really happy about another SW game, if it would be MMO... great, I would love to play both, if it's a single player, great :).

Good news no matter what. I hope they can get a deal.

It'll probably be single player. I mean maybe Disney lets them do a MMORPG running alongside SWTOR, who knows, but I can't imagine they'd do it as it cannibalizes on one game.

I think it would be more of a kotor3 or something like that they really dont have any mmorpg experaince.  however I would welcome a single player rpg star wars game as long as there was no cash shop added to it, and it was not online.

If these forums had any real life representation of the MMO community at large, WoW would be a ghost town....

If anything, single-player is most likely.

Star Wars and MMO don't mix well profit-wise.

Well, a factionless MMORPG might be interesting .. Everyone is empire, killing off Jedi leaders in raids (hehe) ... internal striffe, open PVP against each other as the empire tries to maintain order in a lawless galaxy .. :=D

If Obsidian does Star Wars, it'll be single player.

Probably not .. people who contributed those millions to Kickstarter would burn Obsidian to ashes.

Both games development will co-exist, most likely.

It will be single player.

Or they can look at the successes in the single player/(co-op?) arena and realize that this might be where to go.

They generated more money than single player games ... SWTOR took the spotlight though because somehow EA squandered 300 million in development costs, plus another $800 or so million to acquire Bioware.  EA is trying to make a pitcher of lemonade with just 1 lemon wedge .. takes a whole lot of squeezing.

A really good SW MMORPG has huge potential.  A subscription cost for a quality MMO was never an issue, so if they build it, fans will come.

SWG was profitable otherwise SOE would not have renewed the licence several times. It did not cost much to make/run, and did not need mass loads of subscribers. When it was up for renewal in 2012, either LA cranked up the licence fee or SOE predicted people leaving for SWTOR and did not think it was worth it or both. If they could have seen the future and the massive decline of SWTOR, SWG may not have shut down.

SWTOR could have been profitable if they were not so ambitious to compete with WOW numbers, and kept the costs right down like SWG.

After SWTOR I doubt another SW MMO will launch so greatly, but if it is good, it will progessively get better

3rd time lucky? Make a MMO that is polished and not expensive, but has various features to keep people playing and then expand, but whilst expanding, there are devs / staff to do weekly fun events or a feature to allow players to run awesome events

It's like the first half dozen people posting to this thread didn't bother reading past the title.  It obviously can't be KOTOR 3 if it's set between episodes III and IV!

I'm totally in favor of Obsidian making another SW game as long as it's single player.  Star Wars is one of those gaming franchises that has been all over the place in terms of good and crappy games.  From the highest heights such as KOTOR and SWG, to the lowest lows like SWTOR and The Force Unleashed series.  I, personally, would love to go back to the single player storytelling of the KOTOR series since we're gonna be stuck with this abomination of an MMO for the next half decade.

I hope Disney gives them a chance.
