Personally for me GW2 was the biggest disappointment of any MMO I have played. I know tons of people love it and that is great but I became bored with quicker(much quicker) then any other MMO i have tried. For Tera, I do love the gameplay I think the skills and combat system are awesome and unique and really fun. However I feel they really dropped the ball in the some key areas that have kept me from playing it. Obviously as many have said the quest system is very blah, however what makes this several times worse is the lack of alternatives to leveling. There were no warzones at all for a long time and no warzones at all until max level(which is pretty much a deal breaker for me). For me MMO's are really at a stale dead point until someone comes out with a world that is ultra customizable and shaped by the community(Eve is the closest thing so far) and until then just kind of the same old thing. Good game to try but if you are looking a MMO that is different the only thing you will find here is the combat system. |

You guys are kidding yourselves if you don't find every game in the past 10 years quests systems painfully familiar. I don't see any system anymore boring then the others because they are all the same rehashed crap. GW2 quest system innovative? That's a laugh.

I played both games and quit both games. I reached max levels in both games as well.
Tera's combat is a lot funner TO ME, GW2 combat was just sloppy TO ME. Make sure you see that I said to me, as in my opinion, as in what I think for myself. Not as in you all should feel the same way, or I am right and you are wrong.
The pvp in gw2 makes me tear my hair out its such a mess of dodge roll spam and aoe ass fisting. Drive me absolutely insane. And the massive zergfest kills it for me too.
Pvp in tera pisses me off too but usually because some of the classes are super duper op with the amount of stuns and knockbacks and at the time I played complete lack of DR.
The PVE in both games is terrible too. This notion of "dynamic events" gw2 has is a joke. The same with Rift's and WAR's dynamic events. There is nothing dynamic about them. It is just the same scripted little events that happen like clockwork over and over from the games launch to the games death. Nothing will change, everything is still the same, it is a facade.
They always hype the events up like it will actually forever alter the game world if a certain action is taken during these events. When in reality it will end and the world will restart back to the way it was. Also the doing away with ! quest givers and the age old kill 10 rats still exists too with a new coat of pain as a heart. Majority of the hearts are kill shit non stop till this bar fills up, which in traditional mmo design would of been some guy with the ! over his head asking you to do the exact same thing. Now you just have to run into a general area of a zone.
I expected to much from gw2, and that's my own fault. But anyone who tries to defend it as a complete reinvention of the genre is deluding themselves. The only real original thing they did was remove the holy trinity aspect, and to me it seems as if they did it just for the sake of saying it makes them different. The classes themselves mixed with how dungeons/group content/pvp works makes the gameplay come off as an afterthought.
And Tera isn't much better either. It's PVE is literally the worst thing I can remember doing in an mmo EVER. I've played a lot of a mmo's in my day and a few being from the asian market. But this one took the cake on brain meltingly boring and tedious. I would play Tera again if I could level quickly from just pvp and could completely ignore the fact the game has PVE in it at all. Also to mention, Tera's endgame gearing is complete shit. I loathe the asian end game, get gear then spend shit tons of money and resources to "attempt" to upgrade the stats to reach its +12 ultra stats to then be able to go into a harder dungeon to get a slight upgrade to have to spend the exact same amount or more resources to upgrade that one to +12. Which they then sell stupid items in their cash shops to give you a better % of not failing at the upgrade or to keep the weapon from breaking (Vindictus).
So both games have a lot of issues.
Don't want to read? Bullet Points: - GW2 isn't as revolutionary as most people who are obsessed with it let on. - Tera isn't as amazing as a lot of people let on as well. - Bored of either? Try the other! Why does anyone give a shit what others want to spend time on. Playing: LoL / SWTOR |

I don't get why a heart on a map is innovative and a ! over someones head is boring and old school. Or the fact that the actual number you need to kill is hiden from you and replaced with a heart that fills up..... Is that really all it took to impress some of you people ? |

Tera is less fun at lvl 35-40, when it starts to get really grindy and dungeons and quests are all the same. lvl 60 is max, so trying to get there on my 43 Slayer.

Agreed, TERA is extremelly intense, therefor fun.
Sure, there are a lot of "Go to X, kill X monsters" quests. But when combat alone is so fun, time flies by without even noticing because you're enjoying it.
And then come the Dungeons and Big Ass Monsters. Most fun group combat experiences since WoW vanilla raiding (similar feeling of breakthrough and new world of experiences for their time). My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion. |

I would try Tera but according to the company people from Asia, Africa and middle eastern regions are all hackers and gold sellers. So they won't let me play since i am stationed in Morocco for next one year. I can play every single MMO in market without any problems except for Tera...the special snow flake and target of all gold sellers around the world. |

I completed every single heart quest on my main. Then after doing that I usually clear the starting zone on my alts before not touching a single heart quest after it. Dynamic quests, dungeons and WvW has been enough to reach 80 on 3 other characters of mine now. |

TERA is indeed a good option if u are bored playing anygame...not just GW2.... It just went FTP,so not much to loose anyway.,. As a PTP Game TERA failed hard in homeland Korea & even in West...where it went FTPsimply because of lack óf subscribers in less than a year. GW2 is in my opinion a lot more refined & fun to play BY FAR than Tera, but that´s just my opinion. I played Tera when it first came out in Europe & i trully love it´s graphics...but that´s about it... Quest system (PvE) is horrid...and the game is too limited / on rails...not much space for improvisation...
Since you are comparing both games.... I prefer Guild Wars 2 by far. TERA grew BORING on me too fast... I´ve been playing GW2 since Beta (That´s more +5 months) and i´m still amazed by its quality. |

Tera is boring as hell. Its not a coincidence it had to go F2P, and not just in the West. It was such a dissapointment from someone who played L2 a lot and still wait for (spiritual) successor worthy of that title. Both Aion and Tera are crap. OTOH GW2 is ten times the fun. |

Tera combat I did enjoy more over GW2. GW2 I felt I was just cycling the same skills over and over.
GW2 population has stabalized somewhat, where Tera has recently gone f2p has caused a surge in new and returning players, so yes it will feel more alive due to the influx of players.
Both games have good and bad points as with any game, if Tera is so great why did it not attract enough subscribers in the first place to stop it going f2p? and would those who are so fond of GW2 pay a sub? I doubt it.

The worst combat system ever made :). I just can't get over non-target WITH ANIMATION LOCK, who invented that to add animation lock to non-target...i have only one word for that person, You can guess it. I played till lvl 25, i just couldn't go further this combat system was just annoying me.
Also i'm not the masochist, and i won't torture myself with generic quest and boring gameplay till so called end-game. Yes GW2 screwed me, cuz i just can't play generic, quest based MMOs anymore and i'm sad about that, because a lot of games has only good end-game and i can't reach it, cuz of its shitty lvling gameplay ;(.
Guild Wars 2 is not a perfect games, it has many flaws, but it's still enjoyable. I didn't want this post to look like "I HATE TERA", i'm just pointing that its combat system is not very dynamic and active, animation lock destroys it, it's slower. I just can't stand to wait 5 seconds till my character finish the animation of one spell, i'm not that patient :).
My philosophy is straight, If game doesn't hook me up from lvl 1, i don't play it. I will never torture myself to reach max lvl if the lvling gameplay is boring, it's the part of the game, so why most developers ignore it?
On the side note, i'm waiting for a truly action, faste paced combat in MMO. Non-target, without animation lock, so i can attack while moving, dodging, jumping and running, where ppl who think fast and have big intuition (intution comes with experience, the more fight u do, the better intuition u have) will win.

A thread bigging up TERA in the GW2 forum... hrm, yeah... this was always gonna go down well.. ;) Personally? Played both (GW2 to max lvl and TERA right now) and although I personally enjoyed GW2 as a single player RPG for a month and love it visually, I am finding TERA just more fun. GW2's questing turned out to be too zergy for me in the end. It's just a personal taste thing though so, yeah, whatever. But you know what? At least people *talk* in TERA and already on my box fresh server I can see a community forming. In GW2 the *crickets* in chat were depressing. I dob't now if that's the case now, I would hope that it isn't. GW2 felt so sterile. |

Tera is a quite awful game in my opinion... - Asian graphic style, with some really ugly (in the bad way) mob designs. - Only one weapon per class, and generally very boring, bland class design. Couldn't be more generic than that. - Very linear boring quest hub based leveling system, with very poorly designed quests which make WoW's quests sound like they were written my JRR Tolkien himself in comparison. - The combat system may look fun the first couple of hours, then it becomes as boring as the quest system, with the abilities rooting you in place. GW2 combat is way superior in every aspect. Relatively nice landscape graphics don't make up for all the blatant flaws of that very boring game. Instead of promoting your current "fetish" game on the forums of games you don't play, maybe you should focus on posting on the forum of that "fetish" game instead, so you could eventually constructively enhance its community instead of being annoying to communities of other games. Just saying. There's only one truth. And it's not yours. |

Played for a bit last year when it first came out. It's fun for a bit, looks shiny and has an interesting combat system. If you're bored for something to do, no harm in downloading it and giving it a try. Just don't expect much staying power - I personally lasted just over 100 hours, some only last 3. |
