One of the things I remember fondly from vanilla WOW was the epic class item quests. You know, the Priest quest chain to get Benediction or the Hunter quest chain to get Rhok'delar. OK, you did need raid-drop items for these, so you had to raid at least a bit (and probably more than a bit), but the really memorable parts to me were the exclusively solo steps (where you could get no outside help). Like the final heal-a-thon in Eastern Plaguelands (for the Priest) or defeating the four demons in different zones (for the Hunter). |

They do have "Epic" solo quests. I'm just not a fan because they never feel epic. All anything ever feels like is scripted gameplay anymore, e.g., "Find the key from the goblin, use it to open the dragon's chamber, kill the dragon and harvest its scales, and return to blah blah."
An "Epic Solo Quest" is a quest to kill 3 real players at the same time via World PvP. That to me is epic. |

i don't like the direction developers have taken to include a "Main Quest Line" in recent mmo's (swtor, gw2). i'm not against solo quests but a chain that takes you to level cap is a waste of resources imo. not interested.
I think the prostitute mod corrupted your game files man. -elhefen |

Originally posted by muffins89 True, but what you're talking about is stuff like "player story" content that either accompanies your journey to cap or straight out carries you to the cap. Yeah, I see a lot of players don't care about that at all. What I was talking about, though, was optional quest lines that you start doing at cap. A multi-staged quest line that's a bit on the challenging side and gives you special stuff you can't get anywhere else. I don't think it's going to take a huge amount of resources. And about them not being epic; OK, for some players they're probably not epic in the real sense (I only said "epic" because they were the highest-tier solo quests)... But I remember they were no walk in the park for many players. I remember a majority of the players seeking help with them, and getting pretty frustrated. :) So, what I meant was probably more like "challenging solo quests". Quests that push your ability a bit as a player of your class. |

The most rewarding item I ever received was my EQ ranger epics. I did this at a latter date when I could solo everything and I still had ablast. It probably took a month of casual play. I really miss feeling like I accomplished something by going through some unstreamlined adversity.
Gw2 has legendary weapons that would take months to attain (without spending rl cash) but they are just skins with craptastic stats that are not viable for every playstyle. The eq ranger epics were godly and are actually still viable for their proc today.
