Originally posted by Robokapp Exactly. Anyone who plays something for 5 years and then claims they hated it all along just comes off as incredibly insecure. Sure it's uncool to like WoW around here. If you didn't play Meridian 59, apparently you don't count as a real MMO gamer. Blah blah. Screw anything you hear from anyone else. Did you like the game while you played it, or did you not? WoW is just another game. If you play it and enjoy it, keep playing until you stop enjoying it. Once you do, no need to pretend you never did enjoy it. Have some confidence in your own decisions, dude.
As for me, I played for about 6 years on and off as well (2004-2010). Over those 6 years, my longest consecutive month subscription period was probably for about 18 months during BC. I studied abroad for 6 months at the end of vanilla (naxx days) and the beginning of BC; then I worked away in a remote area for 4 months during the summer after Sunwell. I returned the month before WotlK's release. I took other small intermittent breaks during vanilla and WotlK. Then one day, myself and several friends just burned out around the same time. We pretty much did server first 10 man Lich King during the first week he was unlocked, returned the following 2 weeks to do 9ish hard modes, then never logged on again lol. Some of them returned for a month here or there over the past 3 years to check out the nex expansions, but never stuck around for more than just that month. I've personally never gone back and really have no desire to. I do, however, log on a free trial account once a year on halloween to level from 1-20 in the human starting zones (which, I must say, have been redone extremely well) and stroll through the haunting Duskwood Forest. Editting to add that the games may come and pass, but if you find a great group of people that you really click with in one game, they tend to stick with you. I've continued to play other online games and random co-op games on steam with RL friends and friends I made in WoW almost daily. |

You...will....be.......back.
I have a bunch of long time friends who all swore they were done with WoW after WotLK and somehow got sucked in by those damn little Pandas. Take a break and enjoy your time away, but if you really played for that long I have a hard time believing you are gone for good :) www.agonysend.org |

A million leave, a million start new. Imagine if everyone who left made a "i'm leaving for good" thread. Just leave if that's your choice OP. You and the 999,999 others have already been replaced.

Yes, WOW can get boring. I have been in it since the last year of vanilla and up until recently have played every night for hours. Mists is pretty but when you come down to it we are still running quests which basically the same as every quest in every other area. I tried making money farming things that are needed by others but that also gets boring. I had a chance to try Rift both in Beta and after launch. Glorified WOW with a small twist but still WOW. and not as pretty, in my opinion. I, like one of the other posters, have tried to find something good but still no luck. I have even tried XBox 360, but it just is not that much fun. So, I keep coming back to WOW only for the lack of something better. It is still pretty and as long as I dont play every day for hours I can live with it. I wish there was something out there that was as well done graphically but less boring. One day I will find it and then it will be good buy WOW for ever. |

Like the OP I started WoW back in Vanilla with NE Hunter. Quit for good in March last year.
Last week I actually entertained the idea of going back. So I hopped on wowarmory to see how my old guilds are travelling (have toons in guilds on 2 different servers). Sadly it wasn't pretty, lot more people stuck at 85 than 90s, including many friends. So frankly there isn't much there for me to go back to.
Still, if I got free/cheap Pandaland offer from Blizz, I might check it out for a while.

are we gonna tell him bloodelves are not a class, but a race? :)
@topic: playing wow since US closed beta 2 (had a minor timeout for lichking), and i still think it's one of the best PvE mmos out there. "believe me, mike.. i calculated the odds of this working against the odds that i was doing something incredibly stupid… and i did it anyway!" |

I get what you are saying, but I dont blame the people who do this. I mean, if the game would have followed more the lines it started with then I wouldnt understand, since you just would be bored and left because of that, but the deal here and for me personally is more the fact that the game has turned into something else.
I think evolution in these games that last for years is a good thing, but when you change too much instead of just developing and adding to the old the game becomes something else, and people like me have to leave because the game is not fun anymore because of these changes, I didnt technically become bored with Warcraft, I simply grew to dislike how it all works now beginning at Wotlk and getting the final nail at Cata.
I always hoped for more variety into the game, more ways to play and new meaningful activities. Instead the game has been simply molded more and more into a lobby game, and instead of opening the game more it has been boxed into a more themepark direction than ever before. It's less and less a world, and more and more a set of isolated theme areas for different things with queue and a mechanic to throw your self into that queue.
After lvl10 you dont have to move an inch anymore in the open world in order to get to max level. The open world is now just an optional leveling area. With the crossrealm zones it basically isnt even an open world anymore, but simply zones or instances with random people in them. I want mmorpgs to evolve, but this is not the way, for me the game has turned completely into something else, and I dont like it.
I dont hate the game or run around saying I dont like it, I dont regret spending all that time in it, I had fun for the most part and made some awesome friends on the way, I've played WoW the longest time of any game ever made, and loved most of the trip, but at the bitter end I had to accept I dont like it anymore for what it has become, and I understand everyone who feels the same.
Personally I find it interesting to listen what people have to say after all those years, I dont agree with bashing these games just for getting bored, but I'm interested to hear if it was simply out of boredome, gameplay changes, or what. |

Originally posted by Kuinn The one thing it generally never is; simple burnout. They aren't willing to go that far, generally, until they've "left for good" a few more (or many more) titles. (Mmorpg.com Trivial Pursuit: Keep your eyes open for our three forum regulars listing 30+ ex-games!) Not quite sure why people are so afraid of that one. Getting up from the computer and facing real life again is that scary? I've built my whole identity around "gamer" and never giving it up? I'd have to find a brand new thing to tick away the moments that make up the dull day? Ah, there's mine! Ignore the nattering of beldames, enjoy whatever you like. |

Originally posted by Zeblade Hahahaha!! yeah!! this seems like a helping party for ex crack addicts. I have to admit, that i left the game a year ago, and i was there since day 1, at one point it did turn out like a job, lost my girlfriend on the process... meh just sharing my story with you ex-wow addicts, dont bash the game, we stood there because we loved it, even if you cry that was as much as a job, we loved that job, and those like me, did it for good, and were good, but thats it, its a game, and the only thing i miss is the "feeling" of the game, not the game itself, not the mechanics or anything, just the feeling of something new and exiting, something well done and polished, i miss the "adventure" that brought. I remember 2-3 day AV games...........that got nerfed all to shreds. There was something magical back then the playerbase being such a big part of it. So wildly more sucessful than Blizzard ever dared to dream the only way to sustain it was to corrupt it over time from within. There are memories deeply seated that I find enjoyment in. But alas the magic is gone for me and I have moved on to never return.
