Thanks for the link. I checked it out and it's an unofficial FAQ made by a fan. The pvp info he is referencing appears to be coming from an interview with athene and  a comic con interview. I watched both and found nothing to support it would be in at release. Like I said, I want it to be in, so please link me just one interview where a dev says it will be. 

 

 

The FAQ is by a mod, not a fan so that is my mistake, I do apologize  I'm still unconvinced because he does say the FAQ is unofficial and I still cannot find a link to a dev saying it will be in at release. I just can't trust one source that labels itself as unofficial when there is so much information to the contrary directly from the devs. It does make me more hopeful im wrong since the guy is a P moderator. I just ave to heàr it for myself

The mod is a fan btw, the modders are simpely unpaid volunteers so take it with a grain of salt.  The do have some additional communication options but it doesn't lead to Devs but NW PR peeps. 

Everything is hearsay in NW, stuff mentioned in interviews, demos, ect ect but you can count on that they want PvP to be quality and not in just for the sake of having it in.  Like all things in developemnt they cannot ellaborate just like with everything else about NW.  As it stands PvP will be at launch (unless something changed recently) hence one of the reasons for the delay.  All or most of the things Cryptic was gonna tack on post launch under the guidance of Atari, PWE gave Cryptic the time and support they needed to finish these various projects.  With Atari it was a OMG (Online Multiplayer Game) but with PWE they were allowed to make a "more immersive" MMO.

PvP is a tiresome topic with NW as your are constantly fending off the naysayers and haters.

Take it how you want, a lot of naysayers were screaming on the boards and talking down in all the PvP threads on the official forums and then Cryptic stated that they will have it in NW and the intend it to be quality which considerablely shut up the haters are least for a little while so people actually did discuss PvP.

I still feel the time could have been better spent elsewhere. It's sad that functional and aesthetically pleasing housing takes a back seat to a system that doesn't mesh well with the core of the game, I mean it is a PvE centric game. Since it doesn't mesh well with the core it gets stuck in instances or in some sort of endgame system... yay...

Those "sources" are a demo played through and talking to Andy who is the lead Dev.  They've stated it will be at launch but things change so it could quite possiblely been pushed back for all we know, but they have stated that it will be included at launch last word on the subject.  I can really care less either way if PvP is made into the game.  Take it however you want but they have stated this and this statement has spawned numerous threads on PvP in the forums.

With the amount of hate the PvP has in those forums (all the modders don't advocate PvP) they are not just gonna make crap up on PvP.

D&D has always been about group play and Dungeon Delving.

If your idea of a Sandbox is open FFA Full Loot PvP, full crafted world with minimal support for anything combat then your sandbox ideas are bad! Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

All modern mmo's fail without pvp.  Simply a fact.    Its the movement of the future.  Also!!!! As a Neverwinter Nights Vet I have to say, the original game would of sucked if you could not enable pvp.  Made the storys players created SOOO damn epic.   Anyone ever play Isandor?    Perma death server where you could harvest and build cities.   Most fun ive had in a game to date.

It is probably late to point out, but truth's thread is based on things confirmed by devs. The devs unlike other games are sproadically very active on forums - like a planetary body apearing for a week and ending up in celebration and gala.

 

PvP will be included in the game including deathmathes and group PvP - this has been confirmed by devs on forums. (I know because I keep tabs on them(used to) and you can read their replies in dev tracker, and older ones in my thread stickied just under truth's thread)

I'm fine with no PvP in a game like Neverwinter, people who love this setting, myself included are expecting good PvE content, group, solo, dungeons & dragons.

Gotta agree. Those are the two things that will make me try this game.

I don't think of PVP when I think of D&D. If they make the PVE fun and the dungeon runs actually exciting, that'll do.

Once you get tired of PvE and your twiddling your thumbs you'll welcome PvP.  PvP is a major pillar in any MMO, no reason not to include it.  All the nay sayers always bring up how their PvE is impacted which is utter horse shit as I've seen more nerfs come from PvE reasons than because of PvP.

I don't think it is required at all and I am normally nuts for PVP. I think it might be good for some MMOs to skip it. For some it may be better to spend that extra funding on things besides PVP. Even more so if the PVP is lack luster and half assed. Cryptic has never been known for having good PVP anyways.

PVP and D&D just do not mix. If neverwinter sticks to the rules as much as possible, there WILL be absurdly overpowered builds.

1e-3.5e had the dedicated spellcasters. (Wizard, Cleric, Druid.) All three classes become Dragon Ball Z levels of broken at levels 10 and up. Also, above all them, in 3.5, the Planar Shepard, full stop.

4e has the Executioner/Blackguard with the frostcheese+chargecheese setup. The Blackguard is already the best striker in the game, and the executioner adds +d8 damage to ALL striker abilities, then you add in the cheeseball feat builds, and you can effectively cut through armies Dynasty Warriors style.

Can you imagine that sort of thing in PVP? No thank you.

1e-3.5e had the dedicated spellcasters. (Wizard, Cleric, Druid.) All three classes become Dragon Ball Z levels of broken at levels 10 and up. Also, above all them, in 3.5, the Planar Shepard, full stop.

4e has the Executioner/Blackguard with the frostcheese+chargecheese setup. The Blackguard is already the best striker in the game, and the executioner adds +d8 damage to ALL striker abilities, then you add in the cheeseball feat builds, and you can effectively cut through armies Dynasty Warriors style.

Can you imagine that sort of thing in PVP? No thank you.

Multiclassing and a mix of fixed FEATS for classes and generic FEATS as well as FEATS for Races / subraces.

Also the Skills you trained played a huge role. Because the combat was based on dices, you could be a mind magic resistent character regardless of your above mentioned choices. Placing Ability Points was also the key.


In D&D it was always about what build you have been and building "counter-builds" in PVP.
You certainly don't win a fight against a full Monk with a Low arcane magic / low AB fighter hybrid.

Balancing wasn't in the hands of the developers but in the hands of the players.


^ Nor remove any of the above mentioned systems and twist them into "MMO Class Systems" and you end up with a huge unbalanced pvp nightmare.

Honestly? Dumping the whole PVP is the best choice they - could do -

Playing: EVE Online
Wants to play: ArcheAge, Lineage Eternal: Twilight Resistance / Star Citizen / FFXIV AAR / Neverwinter

Used to play for 5+ years: Lineage 2, Lord of the Rings Online and Ragnarok Online

Utter disappointing MMO experience for 1 - 3 Months:
WAR / AoC / SWTOR / RIFT / AION / STO / TSW / GW2 / GW / Vanguard / Planetside2

What games are you referring to which focused on PvP? GW 2, SW:TOR, Secret Wars, Rift, DCU and so on have all much more PvE content than PvP. Planetside 2 is the only triple A one which is PvP focused.

Imo a good MMO should have both. PvE and PvP are both neccessary for a complete MMO experience and a game which focuses on any one is, imo, lacking.

Anddddd just like that this game has gone to crap. Obviously without PVP it's built for those who enjoy long walks along MMO beaches while picking flowers to craft their epic set of armor to fight the epic boss.

 Uh you have it around the wrong way. They always said it would not release with PvP, and that they would add it in later.

No you have it wrong.  Originally yes, but in Nov/Dec they announced that PvP will be included at launch or was it earlier when the product was delayed?  Either way they did say PvP will be included at launch.

They told me during Gamescom that PvP would have been at launch and that they were excited about it.

I may have to take back the bad things I've posted about Cryptic if they actually release a PvE game with powerful PvE mechanics that are not watered down for PvP reasons.

TSW and GW2 (while very good games) have totally fried me on weak CC in PvE for PvP reasons.

 

I see from others that PvP is in.  That is fine if they totally separate the skill functions.
