Originally posted by Madimorga Ok. We're up to 3 games now. Archeage doesn't count because it hasn't been released. Eve was released 10 years ago. I looking for games in the past 5 years. We're at 1.2% PvP vs 98.8% PvE. I'm curious whether PvP can break 5%. "How should I know if it works? That's what beta testers are for. I only coded it." |

Originally posted by dave6660 I agree PvPers get the short end of the stick when it comes to MMOs. One reason why is we are a minority that is subdivided into smaller groups. And those groups are often hostile to each other.
Like full open world versus restricted areas and every category of that in between. Like large scale versus small scale PvP, and solo versus group (this one is a big deal when these two are mixed because of what premades do to randoms).
We are divided further by the things that divide other gamers, like sub-genre (fantasy, sci-fi, other). So yeah, we don't have as much voice as pure PVE players. And I believe our content is much harder and more costly to develop and maintain than your average dungeon grind for shinies PVE content. |

Eve online doesn't really have "forced pvp", its possible to avoid pvp if you build smart and stick to high sec.
Forced pvp in last 5 years - aion, planetside 2, darkfall, mortal online can't think of any others. Forced to grind out linear stale boring as hell pve though - bloody loads of them. |

This site hardly counts as average mmo gamers. Lots of grumpy ex EQ, swg etc.. players here wanting a hard pve game.

Originally posted by ShakyMo I'll grant you that, Eve is a unique duck. There are some who don't even risk that much PvP because they never leave station! But from what I gathered during the admittedly short time I played there is a lot of content players who aren't interested in PvP will never see and a lot of things they'll never be able to do. |

I luuuuuurve PVP. The ganking I never got into. Answered both though on your poll because if I just wanted PVP I would play a shooter game. If I can't get progression items in PVP to make me better I like to bring them in from PVE so I am likely to do some of that to get what makes me strong enough to compete. I do think of my end game as PVP and my pre-game PVE lots of times. Going into battle with my fancy pants gear or my bad gear is going to then change my difficulty level. That need to adapt is usually what makes us better. It's not all about gear though, I've been known to fight naked just to show off a little but gear or any stat boosts have been traditionally what the games offered outside our little war zones. Ask me about taking on 4 people while killing their dolyak and being naked in GW2 hehe. That needs to be a bumper sticker. That sort of stuff gives me a rush when I stealth away and survive. Forget skydiving lol this is no risk adrenaline rushes. Maybe it's from playing healers for so long, I notice when my heals say they were done and the person dies anyway - guess who I blame, the game. There is a sense in a PVP game that more time has been spent making sure the combat is as real-time as possible and responsive and that makes my gameplay better. That part I like, hitting a skill and waiting for it to go off frustrates me more than anything in a game. If your game is only PVE then you can have more slack in the combat because if you haven't noticed, creatures that you would consider "grind mobs" don't attack very quickly, that's why it's easy to win and in some game you can auto-attack and still win. Especially times when DPS doesn't matter until an enrage timer hits. I can handle animations being off or staged, I can handle graphics cutting into each other but one thing I NEED in a game is for it to be responsive when the numbers are calculated. Often I'm living on a hair of life and fighting more things/people than I should be. If there are others out there thinking the same, that could be why you see so many PVP things brought up. That real-time moment is when you notice that things aren't perfect or could be improved. |

Originally posted by ShakyMo Calling that 'forced PVP' is like saying Monopoly has forced dice rolling. filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community. Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

I almost always focus on PvE, I have never in all my years ganked anyone. I like questing and lore if its good. PvP is something that I sometimes indulge in. I loved Wintergrasp and WvW in GW2 is awesome, but thats about it. Ive stopped trying to play on PvP servers ages ago.

Originally posted by RefMinor I'm no math teacher, but it looks like 57% to 8% dude. I did get a good laugh out of the washington politics style poll reading though. I love PvP, but a good PvP game hasn't come out in years, hopefully this one will make up for it. Thanks :) Currently Playing: Path of Exile, Everquest |

Originally posted by Aeonblades True, but I think you would agree that if he had said that strictly PvP players are a vocal minority, that would be true but not very enlightening (Did anyone in mmorpg history ever think that strict PvP'ers were the bulk of the fans of the genre?). But a significant number do both. And if the poll question was, "Would you play a mmorpg that was strictly PvE?" I think we would see a much different result. How not to sell me on a game: "And most people that make it past the tutorial seem to appreciate [x game's] uniqueness, even if they don't find it fun." |

PvE only, as MMO's these days make absolutely horrible PvP content in the game these days in my opinion. The last MMO game were I sort of enjoyed PvP was Warhammer Online, but that game is centered around PvP and not PvE.

Give ps2 a try, a decent try the first hour or so is hard. I liked wars pvp a lot better than recent games (well until bioware broke it with 1.4), but I like ps2 more. If you played gw2 and thought "fun at the begining but lacks rivalry for long term fun" you might find whats missing from joining a ps2 guild. |

@ RefMinor. Actualy. pvp 8.8% The rest are those who prefer pve 57.1% And those who like pve and pvp in mix are 29.9. So 8.8% hardcore pvpers are most vocal in whole, compared to pve community. If you mix first and third option? then do me a favor and count second and third together as well. |

Then, you have to split third option and add one half to pve the other half to pvp, that at least would be fair count. |

Originally posted by RefMinor You know well it's not, PVPers just want that feeling of being close to those who choose PVE and those pveers pvp only when they want, not forced, like "open world pvp". The true hard core PVPers who want forced pvp have voted 8.8% at the moment only. I do PVP myself, but I choose fps games for that purpose, because those games offer a fair chance to everyone. |
