There COULD BE a crap load of things that happen. There COULD BE a nuclear holocaust 2morrow. There COULD BE a giant meteor that hurls into the earth next week.

Well said.  With this team combo, I think I'd feel pretty comfortable with a Subscription model.

I really, really, REALLY hope they don't choose the scummy, scam-my "Free To Play" model...  That would be a death sentence waiting to happen.

Well better than gpotatoe, funcom or PWE. XLGames had not much choice in first place.

Now lets hope its not going to crash and burn like Rift because of Trions poor perfomance and clueless handling. And hope they wont dare to touch this game and try to dumb it down into their next WoW clone, as in their "visions".

great news indeed! I would love a factional pvp server thou, open  world ganking, been there done that, can be fun but can be boring. Factional gives you that team effort and Sticking to your side pre-set defense. Easier to identify friend from foe, get a better community feeling even thou many guilds will form. Alliance will sprout allot easier and quicker. Make the battles more over conquest then just random ganks :)

I say Factional ftw and I am in ;) bring it Trion, if anyone can do it, you can!

ITs not really a tutorial.. just think about those first 30 lvls being like your standard themepark MMO before it opens up into the sandbox game..

Anyway this is great news, im not a huge fan of trions games but they have always been solid developers and worked with their community. This is an awesome choice and a suprise.. :)

Sound to me like an ability is simply a skill-set. 

Seems more like a system in rift. See the abilities as souls.

Same here, RIFT is not my cup of tea, but TRION did a very good job during beta and launch.

Trion has just fired a load of long term devs for Rift and now there going to publish this limited appeal niche game?, (Whether I may like it or not is irrelevent, it's a game with limited appeal to most people because of it's mechanics).  Were those people fired for this?!

Rift must be doing worse then I thought because if they seriously cut people to fund publishing this then they are clueless

Dont you think they're prepared for the task at hand? They have more experience than you as they have to take such decisions daily, so your speculations makes absolutely no sense at all. Just because some get fired doesnt mean they have less chance of success, in some cases a company realizes they just have to many uneeded people

Yeah Rift crashed and burned so hard that Trion just released  a huge expansion and continues to release content patches on regular basis.

I think you need to revise what crash and burn means but then again what will be mmorpg.com without exaggeration and hyperbole? and since you are huge Aion fan you should know that those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at others.
