Base game, Marrowind. Total game with mods, Oblivion by far. I still have it installed and play once in a while with new mods that are STILL being made after all these years. I know of no other game that still has the amount of followers after so many years as Oblivion does in terms of creating new content for it. However...if Skyrim hadnt been created for the console and instead was made for the PC FIRST...without its MASSIVE limitations in terms of memory usage and still had a magic casting system that wasnt so damn...pooptastic, Skyrim may very well have been able to take over the #1 spot. As is, even with mods, its a weak overall game with a good story. “I hope we shall crush...in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country." ~Thomes Jefferson |

Originally posted by jtcgs ooc, have you tried morrowind fully modded? I should have probably put a stip on the poll that it was for base game only or for modded game only. Probably base game as I suppose more people overall didn't mod. I didn't mod Oblivion personally, I couldn't get over what I thought was it's "console port" flaws. And the level scaling....I enjoyed in Morrowind having areas that were off limits until I had improved enough to get to them. Everyone's going to have their own likes and dislikes of course :) |

Im in the Daggerfall crowd here. While it may not hold a candle, graphically, to todays games it was truely an original back when it was released. I believe it was the first game I ever played where I could own property in a city, my very own mansion.. Empty mansion, but it was mine! I literally spent YEARS of my life playing this game. Never before had I experienced dynamic quests and content and it held me enthralled for years to come. |

Morrowind for me. Hands down. Skyrim comes in second. I was very disappointed in Oblivion, but will try it again, soon. I have found Arena and Daggerfall which I will be trying, also. - Al Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. |

We live in a fantasy world, a world of illusion. The great task in life is to find reality. |

My top 3: 1. Daggerfall-loved the dungeons and it was so ahead of its time 2. Skyrim-Just a cool game...Dungeons were fun....COuld have done without the dragons and the vampirism 3.Morrowind-had alot of good stuff but msot of the time the dungeons were just too short As ofr TES online, I get the feeling it just isnt going to measure up......The bar is pretty high for this franchise and I dont know if they can pull off a good multiplayer version. |

I voted Oblivion, which for me was the 2nd of the series that I had actually played. Never did try Daggefall. Oblivion was the damn game that got me into all these fantasy mmo's, and I still blame it for the steady decline of my yearly income. Hated Skyrim, was great graphically but just was not fun for me. The punch of a new experience was gone by that one. Oblivion, on the other hand, was absolutely heart-stopping for me. Going through those gates and watching everything turn blood red and then getting killed so many times .... oh ftlog it was fun.

It's a toss-up between Daggerfall and Skyrim. Skyrim is infinitely more polished and immersive, but the storylines of Daggerfall were much more complex. You basically start the game off as an agent sent on a personal favor to the emporer to look into why a king's ghost is haunting a city. He also wants you to try and find out what happened to a letter he sent to someone... The web of intrigue that game weaves is simply amazing. That said, the game is incredibly dated now, and was never very stable in the first place. |

I picked Daggerfall, it was my first Elder Scrolls game. I agree with what a few have said, by todays standards it might be a crap game...back then it was my favorite. I especially loved the fact I could play as a vampire or werewolf.

I too had to pick Daggerfall as no other Bethesda game to date has given me the sence of pure awe that it did back in 1996. I remember before I discovered the spells mark and recall getting lost for days just trying to find my way out of 1 dungeon in that game. Not to mention there was the feeling of satisfaction when you rolled into town with a cart full of swag after spending literally hours clearing out one dungeon. I've also greatly enjoyed Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim but those games were pretty much what I expected going into them. Daggerfall was a real gem and very unique as there wasn't anything else like it at the time.

Morrowind. Freedom and minimal developer provided hand-holding. Plenty of adventuring.
My only significant annoyance was cliff racers as overland junk mobs. They were okay the first 1,000 kills, but enough is enough. *grin*

Without a doubt, Morrowind. Morrowind was designed in a slightly eerie, but wonderfully unique way. You have familiar sites like Imperial settlements and Legion forts, but make no mistake, when you get to the Dark Elven ones, you will not confuse them. Even the plantlife can look different from what you're used to. Of all the TES games that have come out, I say hands down, the province of Morrowind was designed with the most care by Bethesda. They went to quite a bit of effort to make the Dark Elven homeland look the part. You are not in Skyrim with the obvious European inspirations. You are not in the Imperial province where it seems so generic in Oblivion. You will see the marks and representatives of the Empire in Morrowind, especially the Legion. But you are in Morrowind, and Bethesda showed that the Dark Elves truly ran their own program there. It was "their land" and you are a stranger in it. The idea that I'm in a strange land never escaped me when I played Morrowind. The only fault Morrowind had was that it came out in the early 2000's, when the mod scene was just starting. It didn't get the massive mod support that the much later released Oblivion and Skyrim had. Character development was the purest form of old school TES. No perks and stuff like that. Totally old school skillbased. And the beauty of all this stuff about Morrowind was that this was the VANILLA game. It didn't take a boatload of mods to enjoy the game, because mods were barely around at all. Of all the Post-Daggerfall TES games, to me, Morrowind required the least bit of 3rd party tweaking / mods to fully enjoy. Skyrim is a great game, but IMO, Bethesda was really on top of its "World Creating" game with Morrowind. After the DOS-based Daggerfall, it looked like Bethesda saw the freedom of the new engine and had a wonderful field day in making the province of Morrowind. It was a really strange land, and I had tremendous fun exploring it. "I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." However, Morrowind in the end did get alot of mods making it an almost current game graphic-wise. The MGE plus other mods makes it quite beautiful.
