I like the handy block checkbox in there :P.

No of-fence (get it?), but we've been doing this in Vendetta Online for years, complete with web-based duel ladder rankings. Also, only 5 minutes for a duel? Some of the energy duels in VO easily stretch on for 10.

Originally posted by Phaserlight I thought the same thing at first, but when they say 5 minutes, they mean without doing anything to each other. I believe any time anyone acts towards their opponent it refreshes the timer, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
As a casual, I'm a bit dissapointed that this isn' t more a simulatory experience, whereas you wouldn't lose your ship or incur costs by participating, as a way to practice and test. Oh well. |

Right, like I am going to risk losing a ship and contents during a duel......dumb idea. At least they put in a block checkbox so I can put any idiots who challenge on my block list. We do duels within the corp all the time, but we make sure people have equal ships and equipment when doing it, usually stuff that is cheap and simple to replace. |

Tacky, why not teleport both to an instanced battleground too.

Duel should NOT destroy ships or cause any perm damage. Why? Because WTF is point of a duel if someone comes out dead the other side? If you want to kill someone, you find them in an area where they have no choice about the matter (low sec?) With this system, they can refuse, meaning the only purpose of it is an agreed upon fight.... So why lose a ship over it?

Interesting. Wonder if there is anyway to prevent 3rd party logistics from making this pointless?

Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

Originally posted by Painlezz I agree. Duels have traditionally never been to the death in MMORPGs. However considering Eve's economy model it makes sense for them. More ships destroyed means more ISK spent on buying ships and modules which means more people will be inclined to buy PLEX and sell it for ISK. That is why I dont play Eve. It is all a huge money grab, cleverly disguising the fact that the game has RMT behind this PLEX nonsense. It is the ultimate Pay 2 Win MMO where you can buy anything and everything with real money, including a high skilled character. |

Originally posted by Loktofeit yeah not the same. I want the other features of the dueling, which would be meaningless on test. Too many people will just refuse duels, and they will have good reason. |

Yes, and then they lose their shiney uber boats in a stupid, moronic fassion. EVE is more then just having a high skilled character or a flashy shiney boat.

Originally posted by scratch250 Ah wonderful. As a nulsec brah I have yet to fully grasp all the changes made to highsec. This one is excellent to say the least. My old corp used to get high-sec ward decs from people that would just station camp with neutral logis sitting way off station. Did mamage to bait them once into engaging and then hopping out with sensor damp cruisers and shutting down the logis XD |

Originally posted by ObiClownobi Not tacky at all. It's perfectly reasonable to think that people would do this in space ships, especially a "largely lawless" period in history. Back in the Wild West and also in medieval times, people dueled each other to the death quite often. There were indeed laws in countries like France and England that allowed Lords and members of the aristocracy to do so without fear of prosecution for murder ;D |

I disagree, what was/is tacky was having to use the container trick in order to create a dueling environment for contests or training (EVE Radio events come to mind.) Also there is nothing to prevent someone else from jumping in and ruining the duel in typical EVE style. :D

Originally posted by Yamota Fine you don't like Eve. A lot of people don't, but don't go spouting nonsense when you are clearly ignorant of the game. There is nothing pay-to-win about Eve. Do you even know what that term means, probably not. Means you get a distinct advantage in game buying from an online shop. You can buy all the plex you want, it gives you no advantage. |

Originally posted by Nitth It won't be. There can only be one duel invitation from a single player. And there is a timer of 30 seconds before it expires. Plus if somebody is continuously sending you invites, you can block him/her. |
