There is a really good game in there somewhere, but it's never going to see the light of day. Buried in an economy run by the cash shop, static progression in essence makes the entire game a "daily" type quest, and terrible UI / information / 48hrs to start a new character type bullshit just ruins it. It may be a sandbox but it's not even close to what I look for in a sandbox. In this game you can earn something like 330k cultivation "experience" to develop the skill you decide upon which boils down to one skill for your first couple weeks playing. You can finish your daily quest to get your max cultivation in about 1-2hrs, and then the rest of your time in the game you can go experience the rest of the game... Essentially you can run a 6 man instance for a couple hrs or you can afk either way it's the same progression. Yea you might get drops from running the dungeon, but wtf does it matter couple bucks in the cash shop will buy you what you need. My beef with this game is there is no fucking point to bother doing anything. |

I obviously didn't play it as much as you, but I have to agree. There seems to be a great game, really much better than any typical F2P out there and it seems to be a decent enough game with some complex systems (that might need to be fleshed out and see better use), but there are just so many downsides (as the OP's title puts it perfectly) that I just can't be bothered to log in and give it more time. |

I am actually enjoying it alot. I played the CBT1 and ended up buying the game. I enjoy logging in and doing so farming and some hunting so I can make some new armors. I enjoy goign to other schools and spying on them and defeatgn any body who tries to come in my way. I enjoy the instances and the mini instances. I enjoy jumping out from behind the bushes and suprising and attacking someone as they escort a caravan to steal the loot! I enjoy just about everyhting! The only thign I really dont enjoy is th fact that yes, you can just spend 20 bucks and exchange for game money to buy whatever you need fom other players. I also do not enjoy how everything sold from other players is SO expensive......... Overall I think I will be sticking with the game! You have to really get past the beginning of the game to reall get hooked on it lol. School wars, stealing other schools scripts, guarding your schools scripts and eveyrhting is pretty awesome, there is so much to do! |

I enjoy the game a lot, but the double currency is a deal breaker for me. The money you get from quests and doing escorts is worthless due to it being bound to your character. There are not many ways to get the unbound money, kidnapping is a toss up. Sometimes you may score big and sometimes you won't. If you are not strong enough robbing escorts or collecting bounties are off the table. The only other way is coming out of your wallet, because the economy is a real joke. Some of the crafting professions are completely useless, and others require you to grind instances for recipes and mats that would actually make a profit. If you dont run instances expect for the mats and recipes for your profession to be overpriced, which in turn makes the finished product overpriced as well in order to recover costs and make profit.
If this is how player driven economies are run, than I can do without that aspect of the game. I think that the double currencies is what screws up the economy since money is so hard to come by in this game, unless you are willing to spend RL money to convert into in game money. I enjoyed the game the open endiness of it and the overrall concept, but being hindered by the currency system is a real turn off for me. So with that being said, I am pretty much done with AoW. I just wish that a NA dev company could make a PVE mmo as open ended and engaging as AoW, and not that action combat crap that's being pushed around. In the end AoW is a really good mmo but for me it suffers because of the way currency works. |

Dunno it doesnt bother me that mutch i just dont have a need to buy many things from strangers i just trade with friends, my guild or make it myself with my main or alts and sell what i dont need. But yes ofc if you plan to solo in this game it would be a huge problem but then again this is a very social mmo and not ment to be played solo.It probably also helps that the enonomy isnt as fucked up on the russian server i play on cause there are no deluxe packages here. |

Maybe we also shouldnt forget that People are going to buy gold no matter what.
Its either going to be from Snail Games or its going to be from farmers. Not sure why this is a serious issue for "this" game. The only difference is that the company making the game is going to sell the Gold instead of some crap farmers. For me personally, I would rather see the company make some profit to reinvest in other games or this game than to see some farmers making money from it. Its about time we see a company make money for their hard work in a game. Even back in the day of UO, people were buying Towers and Castles for $1500 and paying serious cash for Gold. What makes you think that 20 years later, the same thing isnt going to be happning? Its just part of these games. The only way to control this is to take currency out of the game and ONLY rely on players trading item for item. Even then people are going to purchase items though. |

I think the "unbound" currency thing is indeed a real problem. Didn't even get what was going on at first, but after I realised there were two currencies I was pretty amazed at how that thing has spiraled out of control. People are selling the most marginal upgrades for tons of money. To get into the system and start competing and making money yourself you might expect to spend quite a bit in real life. |

Originally posted by tet666 The concern some have is that the cash shop undermines the economy instead of supporting it. That's intentional on their part, and the reason for the two currencies. filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community. Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

They don't give you much information on how to get more skills of the school you are in, for example i'm a Shaolin Monk but i have no idea how to get more advanced skills. I know i have to spy other schools to get their skills. It seems like i can't train skills even if i have enough Liang and Cultivation. Some sort of limit to F2P players? |

If you think about it what would happen if they did get rid of the two currency system? The same bots, hackers and goldspammers that ruined many other games would overrun the game and do everything possible to get silver and sell it.Their system may not be flawless but it works to keep this people at bay. I also believe they should get rid of the option to spend unbound silver to cultivate, prey and make other things and services avaible via silver coins but apart from it i like their system it works.

Originally posted by tet666 This is actually the reason why mmos are in the crap hole as it is. MMO gamers are to quick to conform instead of saying no we are not going to take this, as well as laziness on the player's part. Gold farmers and power leveling services exist for that same exact reason, players being to lazy to do it themselves. Players support this type of stuff until that new mmo smell wears off. The sad part about AoW NA is that players are actually defending the divination bug and Snail's refusal to reimburse players for a bug that they knew about and hasn't til this day fixed. These types of actions and behaviors does not help to improve the game. |

One thing we need to remember each publisher is doing thier own version of the cash shop and as EU game is called Wulin G potato are supposed to be waiting on better translation and a more fair cash shop and a more updated game client as the Russian and NA cash shops seem copy pasted from the Chinese clients as far as I know. So loveing the game but just testing the waters on Russian servers until NA give more time in next Beta, then will prob play Wulin when G.potato get round to the beta that is so if NA version is not to your likeing maybe the Wulin is a better fit even for NA players as the client is stable and to me anyway lag free and I've tried NA/Russia and that is on full settings.

Originally posted by InFlamestwo What's your internal skill level and what skill sets have you already learned (i.e. long boxing, etc.)? My opinion is the prices will come down with the player crafted and collected items. Right now only a few people can craft the high end gear and the demand for it is high. I have been having a lot of fun playing this game. |

Originally posted by darker70 Darker I play on the Russian server as well and did notice that the CS for both NA and Russian versions were the same. From my understanding the CN version also sell better skill books in their CS as well, which makes the skills that you get in game seems underwhelming. I do not know how true that is, maybe it's just a rant from a disgruntled player. But if it is true, than I already see the direction the game taking if NA and RU are indeed copy paste the CN CS. Hopefully that is not the case, because AoW is a really good and addicting game. |
