The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. |

LoL gw2 did not even make it past the first round. Looks like mass effect 3 won. |

Horrible poll. They are asking you to choose between two completely different genres. A 3rd person shooter vs fantasy MMO? Might as well ask which is better, Star Wars Episode IV or Cheesecake? |

those brackets were dumb as hell. most of the games going against each other were completely different genres of games. a racing game vs a rpg? what in the fuck?
Playing: LoL / GW2 |

Sorry but personally i want to sway gamer attention AWAY from the mmorpg's. To many great games that i have enjoyed countless hours of have been completely ruined by this "expanding of the MMO Culture and Crowd" so no id rather vote against it and keep as meny Call of Duty nobs (not all of them are bad but ALOT of them are) Out of my games.
Because i can. |

Originally posted by KingJiggly In part the stagnation of the genre is a result of "new blood." Back when mmorpgs were much smaller in terms of people, games like UO and EQ had complex systems, great in-game communities and devs always looking to push the genre a bit futher. WoW brought in a huge influx of players which wrecked communities and reduced players to just another number. The vast majority of this "new blood" wasn't necessarily tech savy or familiar with rpgs, and didn't want complex systems or long terms goals. These new players wanted fast progress, fewer rules to learn, less intricate encounters and lots of shines. Devs responded by providing stale content that people put on "farm" to get their shines, with an exp bar that showed rapid advancement, so players could feel a sense of accomplishment. Gone were the days in which mmorpgs were worlds, and players were part of a community, now the days of grind and anonymity rose. The new blood didn't want their fun in the form of imagination, freedom and friendship, they wanted goals/activities that could be shown in gear or numbers. Honestly the best thing that could happen to the genre is too contract sharply. Get rid of the people who are only here to stroke their egos and "win", and let those looking for worlds reclaim the genre. As long as studios can throw together some shoddy game that feeds the stats/shines crew long enough to make a profit, we won't see any serious progress or improvement. |

Max Payne won the 2nd round. Max Payne is a good game, played the first and the second, never played the third though. Would have voted GW2.

GW2 did well to get through to the second stage tbh, the rest of the games are really more 'mass market' type games, and, have to say, Farcry 3 is a really good game, for an MMO, let alone one as niche as GW2 is, to compete against a game that has a massively larger playerbase, was never going to be much competition. GW2 players can take heart though, that the game passed through the first stage at least.
