I am more than some of my parts

GW2 is the number 1 mmo because certain people feel compelled to post negative things about it to counteract the glaringly obvious positive things so that everyone doesn't get overwhelmed by it's greatness.  It's like how some people feel compelled to talk about Meghan Fox's thumb.  When something is so close to perfect,  people need to point out any possible fault, no matter how insignificant, just to keep the amazement in check.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

If year end charts from various websites are to be taken, GW2 is the #1 MMO.

If quarterly reports are to be taken, WoW is the #1 MMO still with the most subscribers

If we're basing on our own little worlds and ideals, your #1 MMO isn't the same as mine, or his, or theirs.

I don't know guys, but to me people like you sure does come across as offended enough to come and post that GW2 isn't the #1 MMO. I mean, you really care that much to be bothered? If someone on the Darkfall forum does the same I don't think I'm willing to spend the time and energy trying to refute that. Because I don't care about Darkfall.

1. It's not an RPG, it's a fantasy-themed 3rd person shooter.

2. PvE was trivial and incredibly easy for me (karma grinding was horrible).

3. Group mechanics are virtually nonexistent.

4. Despite the inclusion of 'dynamic events', the world is still static.

5. WvWvW is pointless, as individuals have no real influence on the zerg (in SPvP, it's clear who the winners are, even if your team loses).

6. The insane number of bugs and balance issues frustrated me.

7. It's easily the most anti-social MMO I've ever played (mainly due to #3).

Feel free to disagree with me. I won't hate you for liking GW2, but there are other games I'd rather be playing.

I won't disagree with what you said except for point #1.  GW2 is in no way a FPS.  Its combat is traditional tab targeting.  No twitch or aiming involved.

And the #1 MMO is the one you are playing and enjoying right now.  For me, its certainly not GW2 but for others it is.  Different strokes and all that.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

Lets be honest its not the number 1 mmo, Just the number 1 ranked on mmorpg.com The number 1 mmo has been , is and will always be wow since 2004,

Nothing has changed there. There aren't 10 million players in gw2, Wow is still king of the mmo just not the top ranked mmo on this site.

Take it for what u will but in terms of sheer player numbers gw2 isn't and has never been number 1

Guild Wars was a different and welcomed change to the traditional MMO, but I don't think it deserves the number one spot in any way.

After 50 levels I'd unlocked all of the skills I was ever going to use in the game. From then on I was simply killing enemies with said skills. At the start, the idea of changing skills depending on what weapons you have equipped was awesome! But then I came to realise after playing the game that I'd be stuck with these same skills until the end-game, which caused me to just lose interest and give up on the game. I was quite glad about it really, after finding out that the game has no real end-game content to speak of, and many people found the just hit a brick wall. I tried WvWvW and loved it! But after a while it became a bit monotonous, much like the skill system.

Rerolling and trying new characters didn't appeal to me... I'd played the classes I was interested in and still got bored of that. Levelling isn't what I'm interested in. I prefer competitive and challenging raid-type instances and a variety of skill sets to use. Guild Wars 1 did this perfectly in my opinion! I had a different set of skills for different occasions, with "Elite" skills I could unlock by completing certain objectives.

I really don't feel I got my monies worth for this game having played only 25 hours. I started of fun, and got grindy (Which I thought is what were trying to prevent?) Why is it at the top spot on most websites?!

There really is several reasons.

One is that the game actually is well made. Another is that it still is relatively new. That it is casual friendly doesnt hurt either.

But the most important reason is probably the general quality of MMOs that have been released the last 5 years.

GW2 is far from perfect and there indeed stil are far too few things to do at levelcap but it is still a good game, and frankly does it usually takes MMOs 6-12 months to get any real endgame anyways. Now, GW2 probably never will have what most of generation Wow considers and endgame, but I am pretty sure it will add a lot more to do with the first expansion which should come somewhere this year.

There are sadly few alternatives right now as number 1 MMOs... That doesnt mean everyone must love GW2, not at all but it is well made and in this genre that is still impressing enough at the moment.

Hopefully will the competition do better in the future though and we get a few more well made games in the next few years. Games like WoDO and Class 4 seems interesting to me.

Right now the only other well made game I can think of made the last few years is Rift and GW2 is better (then again havnt I tried Pirates 101, it have some impressing player ratings).

It's not my ideal  MMO, but it's the best thing to have released since 2004 for me (yes i loved WoW at launch).

After many years of waiting finally an MMO managed to grab me by my throat once again. :)

News flash, Pirate 101 is the number 1 mmorpg.

Yeah Pirate 101 clearly is the choice of the MMORPG.com community and you can see it is widely discussed, its forums are vibrant and extremely visited.

Oh wait, no they aren't,

According to this website either the Pirate 101 community spends their time in other subforums or is just non existent and the fact it was the most voted was a combination of a) people that aren't part of this community registering to vote and b) people that would vote on anything to prevent GW2 from being the most voted, especially a harmless and ignred game as Pirates 101.

Currently playing: GW2
Cooperative (semi cooperative)board games you should check: Pandemic, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Eldritch Horror, Descent 2.0,Level 7 Omega Protocol, Last Night on Earth

It's fun but unfortanately short lived. For me anyways. I'd reccomand anyone to buy and play it but unfortanately it's only good for a month or so.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

You will also notice the wow forums are dead on this site.  There is nothing like the haters and fanbois stirring up controversy in equal measure to keep the GW2 forum alive.

I still don't understand. Why people try games that they will not enjoy? I mean it's very known that there are not so many skills in gw2, raids are nonexistant there and it's more of a "journey is a goal" type of a game.

You have your opinion of course, I'm just puzzled why did you even pick this game if it's pretty much opposite of what you desire. It's kinda like I try to play Battlefield or CoD even though I don't like FPS and complain it's boring...

I think you can be forgiven for setting your expectations for a game on its predecessor; and GW1 was one of the best games around for the things he enjoyed.  GW2 one of the worst.

I really don't feel I got my monies worth for this game having played only 25 hours. I started of fun, and got grindy (Which I thought is what were trying to prevent?) Why is it at the top spot on most websites?!
News flash, Pirate 101 is the number 1 mmorpg.
Yeah Pirate 101 clearly is the choice of the MMORPG.com community and you can see it is widely discussed, its forums are vibrant and extremely visited.

Oh wait, no they aren't,

According to this website either the Pirate 101 community spends their time in other subforums or is just non existent and the fact it was the most voted was a combination of a) people that aren't part of this community registering to vote and b) people that would vote on anything to prevent GW2 from being the most voted, especially a harmless and ignred game as Pirates 101.

would you like a re-vote so you can campaign for more gw2 supporters to vote?

oh wait....

Originally posted by MrEvilDr I played this for a while with a couple of friends and got to about level 50, and got extremely bored. But that's just me, my attention span for MMOs is very low as I've played so many. No, but actually someone could recruit 20 people from Pirate 101 to rate it 10/10 so it could actually have a rating and would show as the top rated released MMORPG instead of GW2 aswell.

Pirate 101 as the MMORPG of the year 2012 is a good visit card for this (part of) community. :)

Guess all the devs come and see

"Wow these players really want sandboxes and like to pay subs! Lets make one."

"Yeah, they also chose Pirate 101 has the best game."

"Ok, nvm".
