Thats a huge step backwards IMHO. Gameplay is what they should focus on. Fire the person WHO thought this "brillant" scheme up. |

"I play my games to escape facebook..."
How weird is this statement coming from intelligent people? |

Can't really debate the logic behind them doing this. Avoiding making people craft their social experience around technically a new social site (albit in game guild). Let'em meet up and find one another via exisiting tools. Saves time and money.

Originally posted by Latronus I do, since the beta, and I have no idea what are you talking about... I don't use any of those social crap, and I never get any "urge" from the game to use it either. There was a Secret War event, which was some fb s**t but with no real influence in the game (as I heard maybe they got some in-game outfit? not sure)
As others said already, this is just cheap. If they already had a great game, and then'd say: -and in our free time as an addition we put in all the social bs, so "the connection to those two social networks, along with others such as Google+, will likely drive ESO into being one of the first MMOs that you can feel a part of even when you’re not at your PC or laptop" people probably would say, who cares, we won't use that anyways. But that's not the case, and they find this crap important? lol. I just hope they won't go as far as Family Guy did (which is already gone, although not becasue the f**kbook integration :) ) |

Interesting how Firor is spending Dev resources to integrate "Out of Game" Social Features to TESO, but when it comes to "In Game" Social Features like Housing and/or Player Cities its "Too Hard"
Its also going to be funny when some guild loses a Relic Raid....sorry.....Scroll Raid because the Healer was sending a Tweet. Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR |

TES's success was in great part because it was a single player sandbox. People, of course, thought "Wouldn't it be great if we could have this, but online?"...
Every annoucement so far hints this game will fail miserably... |

Originally posted by Indrome So true. Integrating your MMORPG lifestyle into your Facebook profile is like integrating your crack lifestyle or gambling addiction on your Facebook profile. It invites people you don't want in your life into your life, and it gives the people who are in your life a window into your less-savory habits. Just like you don't want your crack-smoking friends to say on your Facebook, "let's head for the spot tonight!," you don't want your guild lieutenants saying, "hey, we're heading to Onyxia tonight!" Do you really, really want someone from HR getting wind of how much you and your guild raid? Do you want chicks who are checking you out to know how much time and money you put into elves and orcs? Look, I've played with some pretty interesting folks out in cyberland. I'm sure you'd meet some pretty interesting people smoking weed in a basement or sitting next to you in the slots room at the riverboat casino. But do you want to integrate these people--all of these people--into your life? I'm not sure you do in most cases. This isn't about you, this move on TESO's part. This isn't about adding value to your experience. It's about them, the publishers, and their ability to access, sell, re-sell and commoditize your information and your social network. Because once you let them in (as anyone who has ever downloaded a Facebook app knows), they can make money off of you, even if you buy nothing from them.

I think they think they can use social media to boost sales, but tsw tried this with no success.
I just don't think there Is much cross over between people who use Twitter and Facebook and people who play mmos. The likes of Facebook seem to be for people with short attention spans, mmos require a big chunk of your attention. This sort of thing might work for some super casual game perhaps, or some trendy game that's "down with the kids" but not a mmo (or other more involved game like say civ 5 or shogun) I just don't think "geeks" that like mmos like pointless shite like Facebook and Twitter. They seem to go hand in hand with crappy low brow television like the x factor and what have you. |

As long as external social media sites are not forced or put you at a disadvantage I will try the game but if FB or twitter are forced in some way I will not only not play but be very vocal about why I don't. Bad idea if not done right, make it option I can completely turn off with no degradation in gameplay and I'm cool.
Starting to get worried about this title.

I doubt you will be forced to use them, will just be an option like with tsw.

TESO does not need Facebook or Twitter. TESO needs only what any other Elder Scrolls game has.
1.Mood! A dust storm here and there like in Morrowind! Some blizzards here and there like in Skyrim! Some epic music to make you freeze in a spot and enjoy the moon! You know what I'm talking about! 2.Epic Story! 3.Nothing else!
Gondor has no Facebook! Gondor needs no Facebook.
I wish they take the person/s who are pushing for this "social" crap and boil them in hot oil.
FOCUS ON THE IMPORTANT STUFF! ALSO 99% OF FACEBOOK USERS DON'T HAVE ENOUGH BRAINS TO SWING A SWORD OR CAST A SPELL! WAKE UP! |

Oh! And don't give us that "Our engine 200 people derka derka blabla" crap! Make the game look as beautiful as any other Elder Scrolls game or you will fail! It's as simple as that! No "Engine" excuses for the lack of skills in the art department please!

Reading through these comments I've noticed a trend. People like to complain about everything and anything including things that are optional. |

Like everyone else has said this is a dumb feature that being added purely in the hope that it will market their game to a broader audience, bthis is something bioware would pull.
