They think some of the up and coming Sandboxes are like that but they will have huge limits on what you can and can't do and the life certainly will not be organic - more static than anything. |

GW2 deserves mmo of the year because in its un-nerfed state this was the best game released in years, however at the rate anet is nerfing the fun out of the game combined with the simple and repetitive direction they have chosen to pursue with the added content the game could be empty and dead by december 2013..
Playing GW2.. |

The story of GW2. This game is amazing, and I love how many things they are trying to do different... A week later. This game is boring as shit, and nothing changed about the formula it's just presented in a different way.

Just because you don't like a balance, doesn't mean it is a nerf. A nerf means you can't play a profession at all any more - e.g. the Saboteurs from Rift after the first 2 week adjustment - you could not use that build any more. |

Those are the games that would be successful, if only someone would write them. Join the League For Gamers. |

They dserve the award. The sandbox folk are out again i see. They sound like people asking folks to vote for Santa Clause for President. The "sandbox" game is a myth and only exists successfully in one form, Eve. 99.5 percent of all games are "theme park" in that we pay people to make challenges and environments to explore. Any one can make a game and have people attack one another, there's no real effort in game design there. A true designer, like a good dungeon master, can make fun challenges.

GW2 does indeed deserve GotY and it's a great game in it's own right. I was supposed to reply to a thread about how I felt about the game after some time so I'll package it up here. It's the best iteration of what a themepark can be. It has the same aspects and even has the same canned feeling. What it also brings however are functions to make it less of a predictable experience and you can get "lost" in the gameplay. Dear developers, In my humble and inexperienced opinion if I can get through all the content you spent the last 5+ years working on within 6 months you have not done your work justice. Please give me, and everyone else, some tools to create our own content from what you have made so I can stay in your world and appreciate it longer than three weeks before I say "meh". It's a shame and I'd rather not do that to something you put so much of yourself in to. |
