It's well worth subbing for 2-3 months. Roll Jedi Knight, finish the story, and then roll Imperial Agent. In couple of months you can complete these two storylines and PVP enough for warzones to get too repetitive. Then you can safely uninstall and be happy that you've played the best part of the game.

You're welcome.

uhmmm I enjoyed doing pvp a little...but the story and stuff was amazing.

i dont know how to explain it...

The game its awesome...But it sucks as MMO from simple things like the engine.

It's a decent single-player game that occasionally has some multi-player aspects.   Just do the free game, play a few stories, and be done.

You say they are in the black but you have nothing to base it on. Freemium for a month, no report from EA to stock holders on new revenue, so its all based on what you WANT to be true.

You can go to the offical forums of each and every single game that has gone freemium, go back to the posts right after it did so and read all the "fans" talk about how it saved the game, they must be making a ton of money...and then read the posts today about how the game is dead, freemium failed, it drove new players away with its restrictions, they should have gone full F2P and everyone is wondering how much longer the game is going to last.

You mean it drove the leechers away. Legitemate players who would have spent money on the game would not have been put off by the restrictive nature of the F2P.

You didn't respond to the part about your 'in the black' comment being based on nothing. Care to?

I have enjoyed coming back to SWTOR and may (after 3 weeks getting bored again) continue to sub at least 1 more month. The F2P restrictions are WAY too slim for me. And then again maybe not.

The new 'expansion' is a disappointment overall. If they released more info, maybe I would be a bit more excited. I couldn't care one whit about $10 so it isn't the money. It is more the fact that it will be coming 'in Spring 2013' and no actual notification of what the 'expansion' includes. 5 more levels on the cap and a new planet to earn them on! Will have to be a planet the size of DK or Coruscant and even those are 1-2 days of 'normal' play (call it a full weekend's worth of content).

I think that while I have not minded subbing and have enjoyed my 'return', I (at this point) see the expansion (and I am not sure it is not more than re-purposed updates that were originally supposed to be 'free content') as a money grab.

Disappointing. It took me almost 10 months to come back to SWTOR the 1st time. Once I un-sub, I doubt I'll return again. I think a lot of subs will feel the same, but who knows.

I'd say your best option is to play free first  20 levels then decide. My guess is you won't like it if you are searching for a new MMO to settle in as this game plays more like a single/coop with multiplayer than an MMO.Planets are maps with bunch of quests which will turn grey as you outlevel them and force you to move on and never look back. Generaly everyone will agree that story by far the best part of TOR so once you reach 50 your best option is rerolling a different class and play from level 1 again. Like you would in a single player game but without paying 15/month.

If you are sw fan looking for a star wars fix youll probably end up playing longer.

If you want long term and sub - NO

If youre just interested in storylines 1-50, play for free ( only 5$ for preferred recommended) - YES

It is interesting that this is the big issue I had with ToR in the first place. I don't think they should have ever been a sub game and I am definitely a supporter of the sub-based model in general.

It is not just the argument of it being too much like a single player game, it is also that the development was so expensive that it will, in my opinion, make it difficult for EA to continue to release quality content for it at a good pace and with good value to the customer.

All of the VOs and cutscenes might have seemed like a great and revolutionary idea for a themepark but they might have just priced themselves out of making a good MMORPG for the money.

Is the game worth it? That is a really great question I don't have an answer to. I didn't think that it was worth beyond one month of sub (with the free month that comes to 2 months). Is it really worth it as an F2P? I would say no, not with the restrictions.

If I were the OP, I would go with subbing for one or two months tops, trying out the original game before the quality level will be affected by potentially subpar expansions.

Yes, I am a bit negative about the prospects of this game,  even though I have contemplated giving the F2P a whirl.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

It was for me.. I got a good six months of enjoyment out of it and had fun with my characters before taking a break.. It was by far the most fun I've ever had in an MMO. With FTP, give it a shot and if you like it you can sub and if you don't you're not out anything.

Currently Playing: Star Wars The Old Republic

It's F2P and the class storylines alone make this game worth playing, some of them are really great and some of the companions are brilliant.

A psychotic droid, a Jawa with a rocket launcher, a twilek with a shock collar....twists and turns, surprises in the storylines and your decisions matter and affect your characters progression through the stories.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

Yep.  Still playing.  Had to move to a new server but starting anew again is actually quite fun.

Is SWToR worth playing? Yes it is. Its a very nicely polished classical(yep, i made up this new category on the spot) MMO based on the holy trinity and a questhub centric level system. It has instances, hardmodes for said instances, raids and hardmodes for raids. There are BGs, and in a month or two openPvP grounds.

In other words, if you like the above and thats enough for you, there are hardly any MMOs doing it significiantly better. A few nice gimmicks that set it a little bit apart from classical MMO are the companion(pet) based leveling and the adaptive items/crafting related to them which is a nice touch.

Just don't expect it to blow your mind if you ever played a MMO before, also i have seen better endgame, which might be a slight understatement(yes that was sarcasm).

Is it worth 15$ a month? Well maybe for a month or two, after that imho not. Atleast not for me. The restrictions for preferred F2P players are bearable though with a few choice purchases. The good thing about this game though is that its easy to judge wether its for you or not, its not way out there like EvE(mechanics) or TSW(setting). Seriously, im trying TSW currently, and i simply don't know wether its awesome, crap or i am just not getting it.

On the current playerbase ... well i like it better now acutally because due to the server mergers the population feels alot more "dense", you actually easily find people for group activities etc. If i had to give someone who spent the last 10 years in basement some advice on MMOs to try it would probably by something along the lines of: EvE, LotRO, STO, SWToR, GW2. One or two of them should stick and be sufficent to get him back into his basement, now with internet.

It was based on the posts above me.

As far as subbers go, I too subbed way back at release and quit after a month. I only came back to SWTOR because it went f2p. I was really put down with the restrictions, but found the overall gameplay entertaining, so I re-subbed.

I would have to disagree with you about the price of the expansion though. If you compare it to spending the weekend at the movies, its quiet the bargain. Even if you just bought a dvd to watch, buying the expansion its still a very good deal.

I am not saying SWTOR is a great game ,no I know it for its warts, but people here seem to insist it has no redeeming features but in game ( I am subbed ) there are people chatting in general talking about how they love the jedi master strike animation or listening to Corso go " I got you" each time makes them grin or how they love their evil sith.  There are people playing and loving the game and you know what they are the truly lucky ones to have found a game and place to pass time while so many here come to bitch and moan about it when they do not even play.

So try it and go in with an open mind well as open as you can be with this forum managing to poison the experience.
