Do you think they will finally make the combat animations bearable? This (imo) is one of the biggest reason people are trying out the game and not sticking with it. Thus, you would think it would be one of their top priorities to fix. Example of how pistols look in game now. (one of the more borring combat animation weapons) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yGWcjkhC4c Example of how pistol animation could look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2KJHysK6k8 Obviously your not going to actually be able to make the combat animations that good. But at least they could add in some type of movement rather than just standing there blasting away, or strafing side to side blasting away. TSW could easily be poised to be the sleeper hit of the year. If they would just add a little more action into the combat. While I understand they are going for a more realistic look, the combat isn't really realistic. In realistic combat if someone did reach me, and engage me in close quarters combat. I would be dodging & blocking as well as attacking. Instead of just standing toe to toe swinging/shooting away.
Few other examples of good action combat moves that could be adapted to tsw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nfPDR3gGQc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFTuztH4v0k |

Its not a shooter its an rpg....I really dont see the animation problem, I do see unrealistic expectation on how combat should be executed. |

From Joel Bylos as far as long term goals go "Our ambition is not just adding more content and fleshing out more of the storyline. We want to make improvements and enhancements to the core gameplay and mechanics of the game. A few concrete examples include the work we are currently doing on improving the animations in the game. We know this was one of the major complaints both in the beta and after release, and we are looking at how we can make player animations feel more fluid and natural. This entails implementing an entirely new animation backend for the Dreamworld engine, which will allow us to make improvement in both ‘The Secret World’ and future Dreamworld projects." It will be a slow process but they are working on improving animations, till then its still a great buy and enjoyable game. |

Some combat animations are rather terrible, but I don't think they'll overhaul them. Even if TSW is selling well right now, they've probably lost a big chunk of their current subs and need to make new content to sell. Besides, it's selling well for 15$ and 7$ from third party retailers and that's not a lot. I think they don't have the manpower ANet has and can't work on ten different things simultaneusly. They have been making small improvements, but those improvements are barely noticeable. |

The animations came up on the official forums recently and some of the problems that people saw were: "Character animations are still quite wooden (it's been said this is a consequence of having to decouple the lower body's actions from the upper to allow characters to move while casting)," Not gonna lie, I can't see most of these problems myself. I can get behind adding some more unique animations to each weapon, but that's it. Admittedly I'm a fanboi, but I've really looked and I can't see what's so horrible about them. I also watched the pistol video the OP linked and the animations seem perfectly fine, especially for an MMO - expecting The Witcher 2 level animations in an MMO is just unrealistic. |

Originally posted by minttunator +1 and I'm not even a fanboi, just love the game :) combat animations, seriously? Maybe the least important aspect of the game... (I put here an "imo" just to avoid the sh*tstorm) It's like you'd say: "yeah, this Tolkien dude sure can write, and LotR could be a nice book, but man, those fonts, so awful I can't enjoy reading it" combat animations as the biggest reason of quitting... Lol |

They are already working on a new animation blending technique. Should come soon.
I never found the animations "unbearable", a little less fluid than in some other games, but that should improve in the near future, it was said on a recent live stream Secrets of Dragon´s Spine Trailer.. ! :D Best MMOs ever played: Ultima, EvE, SW Galaxies, Age of Conan, The Secret World |

We wil have to wait and see, most games that go the cash shop route, usually keep there devs in the cash shop and not out creating more playable content. So this is a wait and see.

Combat animation are top of the list they are looking to improve, but the animations as they are now are decent, just not spectacular. The world itself looks asolutely gorgeous, especially on a high-end rig.

Originally posted by Ortwig I hope animation are not top of the list. I still think putting the barber shop and cosmetic surgeon in so early was a huge mistake. It pushed back actual content.
I hope they keep up with the pvp upgrades. If TSW had more, stable pvp content, the game's population would be atleast 50% higher. TSW only has 2 battle ground maps, that need to be much more dynamic. I hope they continue down the path Martin was talking about., like adding a queue for the fight clubs, 1v1, 2v2, and such. DamonVile- Games built for disposable players are now apparently built by disposable employees. |

Any "new influx of cash" will go towards keeping FC in business and open. The company is not in good financial straights, according the their own released quarterly reports, and they have hired a couple corporate M + A specialists, all but assuedly to get them ready for sale. Without a buyer, FC will likely be gone as an independent company in 12-18 months (again, based on their financial reports and negative cash flow). For the fans of TSW, I hope it works out for FC. Personally, I think FC put all it's games under the F2P umbrella to make FC more attactive to another F2P company.

Sorry, I think your example of "good" gun movements is horrible. It's so over the top and tacky (to my taste). The example of the sword dance is more interesting.

They're not the best animations, but it's not bad and the game is fun. The animations certainly aren't something that would keep me from playing or enjoying the game. I hope they're not the top priority.

I've never quite understood the issue with combat animations. I mean, the first time I fire off an effect, or do a combat move I might me 'Ooooh that's cool!' but the 10th? 50th? 100th? time I do the same move, I'm not even going to notice it, no matter how spectacular the animation is.
However, as posted above, John Bylos understands the need for improvements in that area - so they're going to implement them. This isn't a bad thing - improvements to the game are never a bad thing.
