Not an egragious lie, but one of my favorites because it was so ridiculous that no one could possibly believe it, yet a large portion of their fanbase actually believed it:

Lotro - we have no plans on going free to play - fast forward SWTOR we have no current plans to go free to play SWTOR we have 2 milliion subs, um yea. |
