Holy Fuck did anyone else get slapped in the face hard with this?! This was a amazing turn of events. They didn't ruin the game with a hybrid model or go full blown Free to play thank god last thing we needed was a another Star Wars The Old Republic!. I love the way it's going. they made the game cheaper for buy to play added some grant benefits for subs and life timers. And the DLC thing is genies look at games like WOW and RIFT you gott shell out 50-60 dollars a expansion every time! So good move Funcom good move! And I know alot of you may be upset but you gotta look at AAA mmo gaming as a whole on this one.Forgot to mention they also strengthen the Item mall. Good move. No power ups or pay to win so sorry item buyers we may have double exp but reilty is you can only use 7 active skills at a time haha And for Lifetimers. They get free bonus points for life which they use in the item mall and buy the 5 dollar DLC basically for free. Plus they get life time sub benefits. So I think they made out well.

This was probably the best move Funcom could make with TSW! I´m really happy with their new model, very well done (unlike that horrid FTP model by swtor making you pay for skill bars...lol) I´ll be buying TSW ^^ |

I just realized -- they actually got the timing right on this one! Right before Christmas and tied in with the alternate reality game event and latest Issue update. Hmm, Joel, you should yell at the marketing team more often. ;)

Well, i doesnt sound too bad. I'm still a bit sceptical, but we will see how this evolves. For now i will stay with my monthly membership.
But anyway. Its far better than the awkward SWTOR FTP system. Playing: TSW, SWTOR, FM2013 |

Smooth move on their part. Though I wonder why they didn't use this as a tie in with the advertising campain launched earlier in the month? Still, hope this bodes well for The Secret World.

I will probably be buying TSW as well. I liked the game, but I didn't want to feel like I had to rush through content because of the sub fee. I really like that they haven't gone with a full-on F2P model. Here's to hoping it works out well for them. :-) ** edit ** I liked what that Joel guy said about trying a subscription, it didn't work, so now they're trying something else. That was a point where you would expect some corporate double talk, but it was a minimal BS statement. Join the League For Gamers. |

Well thought out decision from Funcom. Especially when they make sure we are comparing their model with SWTOR.
To play SWTOR properly you will need to pay something.
To Play TSW you will need to pay something.
But you will feel less scammed when you pay for TSW. |

I like this change very much. Just checked and as a lifer I already have FC points and an item for this month. As long as free points will cover new content I'm really happy with this change. Also playerbase should grow significantly which is a good thing for every MMO.

MMO devs and publishers are slowly learning that you need to maintain a certain mass of people to make these games enjoyable.
VERY pleased with the model, FAR FAR above that of TOR...If TOR did what funcom is doing, id be back there is a second. |

I like this changes. As as lifetimer, I was a bit angry at first, but then I've read carefully about my new benefits. Well, before game was just free for me. Now, I will have some FREE FC points each month to spare on clothes, rest spend on DLC - if I want to buy it. Awesome. Now I need to think about this 1200 FC points that I already received, hmmm.

Originally posted by Derros Well if this proves as or more profitable than their F2P model, this might just happen with them as well Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros |

Originally posted by grimal I do hope this change does influence other MMO companies. I'm not a cash shop spender but when a company creates good will towards the customer I'm much more inclined to consider the cash shop for furture content. This is the direct opposite of the feeling I had towards the punitive ftp model for SWTOR. |

This is incredible, TSW is a fanatastic game unique in the genre. My time has been full because of GW2, I always wanted to check back but the subscription was a bit of a barrier, simply because of time constraints, now that barrier is gone I now have two great B2P titles to fill what little time I have. Christmas comes early! *Does a happy dance*
