Originally posted by botrytis Well, SW:TOR is a 2011 game... but I agree, a December release is pretty much a "next year" release anyway. GW2 will beat SW:TOR, TERA and TSW in many other awards this year. Mark my words. Why? Because beside the very vocal minority here, all reviewers loved the fact that a polished AAA game finally kicked the WoW clone model hornet nest. Will GW2 be the "end of it all" MMORPG? Not even remotely close. But the game made things move... look at the upcoming theme parks, like Elder Scrolls... they are copying GW2 features, and hopefully they will even improve on them. Hell, even exitsting games like LOTRO copied GW2 features for their expansions. GW2 did what no major developer had the balls to do... create an AAA theme park MMORPG that is not a WoW clone, and make it succeed. Show that you don't need quest hubs for a theme park to work. And as a bonus, they also show that even a modern AAA '"buy to play" MMORPG can have monthly content updates.

Besides the fact that this "Techland" is hardly a reference and source for any valid judgement (first time I've ever heard of it), I just saw some random game called "Xenoblade" is second on the list, heh.
Call me mainstreamer, but I'll wait for IGN's real GOTY lists. My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion. |

Originally posted by botrytis Well come on now... I've probably been playing MMOs longer than most people on this site and anyone who doesn't find enjoyment and a touch of happiness from playing LittleBigPlanet is a seriously broken individual. And yes people, TIME magazine is a huge, huge, huge publication. "Time has the world's largest circulation for a weekly news magazine, and has a readership of 25 million, 20 million of which are in the US." So I guess I can forgive our European friends for calling TIME an obscure publication. MMO History: |

Sorry but to me nothing beats Mass Effect 3 this year. Completely an amazing rpg experience with great story. It is so much better than GW2 is every way. Who actually voted for this stuff ?

All things considered, Game of the Year awards are like good attendance records.

In our opinion then, 'award' of the year is like that then? I don't believe that. |

Originally posted by Nadia The list was pretty decent. Xenoblade actually deserved first, best RPG I have played in a fair while. The fact that Alber_gamer hasn't heard of it doesn't make it any less of a quality game. |

Originally posted by BadSpock I am sorry you younger generation of gamers do not know what innovative or quality is, I wont hold it against you. But that will change if console start cracking down on 2nd hand games and making you buy online passes and such, I refuse to support that. Edit: and before console's I was playing games one of the first apple computers. Get a life? I am very happy with my life.

Originally posted by Normandy7 People. Just people with opinions. All awards are basically crap. Too much politics. I look more at the nominees than the award winners. Usually someone/something listed in their deserves the acclaim. Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros |

Originally posted by toddze I will agree with BS here. Just because you have owned every single console and gaming platform in the history of the universe does not mean what BS is saying is not valid - harsh vut valid.
There is innovation in those games, just not what you want.
You are probably a 'sandbox' player - which means the games you like would nver get the wide appeal that games like this do. |

Originally posted by Volkon This is true. Honestly, I haven't played that many different titles this year (out of "MMO"s to really give a fair opinion on what game should have one). But then again, it doesn't really matter much to me. It's kind of like the Academy Awards. Sometimes they get an award or two right, but most of the time it's just politics. Originally posted by evilastro Agreed. Looks like Bioware became really good at ruining excellent IPs recently... I don't recognize the awesome company which made games like Neverwinter Nights, but I guess that's what happens when you get bought by Electronic Arts. EA: We Destroy Games. |
