Well E:D is still all talk and no show. Star Citizen a bit less so. But the fact is both games are still far, far away from becoming reality. |

Hey Devs, just so you know. The more you give us to play with, the more we play. |

So Elite Dangerous is going to be an MMO?
Because what it sounds like hes talking about is a single player game.
Or something like PotBS in space, meaning when players are running the blockade are the other players who are supporting it attacking the blockade-runners, or is it just a competition to see who fills some imaginary completion bar first?
I mean I could nit-pick some other things he said, but truly I dont want to sound overly negative. Just not sure how well what hes describing would work in a MMO style game.
I mean it seems to me to be very heavy NPC interactive.

Good old ELITE is the mother of space sim nerdgasm. Can´t wait for this new game to happen, it will be epic. Braben always was a visionary, similiar to Chris Roberts. What a shame how the industry has treated and ignored people like them. Secrets of Dragon´s Spine Trailer.. ! :D Best MMOs ever played: Ultima, EvE, SW Galaxies, Age of Conan, The Secret World |

EVE should be like this game? You ever tried to play eve? It looks to me more like Space SimCity. I'm not crazy to give my money to some unknown men for his words and few pictures in background

No OP, EVE should be like EVE. This game (if it ever comes out) should be like Elite Dangerous.
Some of us actually like a range of different games. |

The doctors say his chances are 50/50...but there's only a 10% chance of that. |

Yes the main thing missing from EVE is the way another game did something. After all, we saw how well that worked with SWG. El Psy Congroo |

Agree with the others, EVE should be just what it is, let another game blaze a different path.

Why is anyone hyped over these games like Star Citizen E:D? I agree that these types of games are really fun, but there are so many of them. And they all take a long time to really play. The X3 series is very good, the latest one 'Albion Prelude' has some absolutely superb graphics and a very dynamic galaxy. Then there's the indy game 'Evochron Mercenary' which has mediocre graphics but full 100% Newtonian physics with real gravity effects from celestial bodies and full planetary landings. The flight mechanics and physics in Evochron alone make it a more impressive game than the others imo. I don't see anything groundbreaking or really innovative coming from E:D and Star Citizen. Now if one of these types of games comes out that is a true, persistent and dynamic open world mmo, I'll play it. But I'd rather not waste time on the other ones, my time is better spent playing EVE.

Originally posted by dave6660 Also agreed. Besides, Eve already has a lot of these mechanics such as constructing space stations, having orders for parts, systems being taken over, etc (Nullsec sovereignty). When he talks about "the missions being available at that time of the famine/war will be representative of the situation"...Eve has that. It's just that the players make their own missions. Nullsec corp commanders are always planning out missions/schedules for their corp mates. Resource shortages, blockades, blockade runners (there's even a ship class specifically called that, personal favorite is the Viator)... Eve can (and should) stay exactly as it is. From the sounds of it Elite Dangerous won't really have anything that Eve doesn't, except perhaps changes to what PvE mission agents give depending on the situation. |

People that allready like and play EVE dont think nothing should be added. Granted , that is fine. But what about many others that tried and found EVE missing the other part - AI computer controlled part ?
Granted EVE should not be like ELITE (Although for your information EVE was based on ELITE) When infact EVE could be much more - It could have what EVE has and than also what ELITE has. Yes , you could have that burger and fries too ... and milkshake. But you guys are like : Let burger be burger , and let other resturant serve milkshakes.
I see it simple as this : Game better -> more players playing = everyone profits |

/this Allthough there's ways to play it as a singleplayer, there's no point in doing it. And sorry to say, but E:D looks more like a singleplayer with added multiplayer. |

Originally posted by FromHell Listen to what he says. Its both a singleplayer game and an MMO. How they will ever balance that even close to well, is way beyond me. But hey, he is a clever guy. I have fond memories of Elite and especially Frontier, but I must admit that the thing that sold EVE to me was that I did not actaully have to FLY my spaceship, just give it orders. Any Elite successor will be direct fly control I am sure, and thus just not my cup of tea. I can see the charm though in the idea of a dynamicly changeing universe, but it need to be secured agaist you GoonSwarm type thugs and exploiters, or you will have hell on your hands. |

There's a reason why McDonalds doesn't offer Chinese food, just look what happened when they tried to introduce barbacue. (McRib, yuck) Trying to change successful MMORPG's to be all things to all people has pretty much ended badly in almost every case, focusing on its strengths is what has kept EVE so viable for so long when most every other MMORPG out there has crashed and burned.
