The hits just keep on coming for NCsoft. In the wake of City of Heroes' closure, the publisher's Seattle offices are apparently undergoing "realignment." The company has denied that the Seattle office is closing, but has noted that several positions in the office have been terminated as a result of recent events. No details were released regarding how many people have been let go or how this will affect titles under NCsoft's aegis.
NCsoft made a similar round of layoffs last year in October, with several offices hit with large staff reductions. This round comes in the wake of continued losses for the company, including a 12% reduction in revenue over the previous year, major losses already posted from earlier in the year, and a stock price that is currently half of what it was earlier in the year. Just to be clear, NCSoft Seattle is NOT Arenanet, Arenanet is "Arenanet: Bellevue" in the NCSoft corporate structure.

Kinda paints the picture that the news has to do with ANet or GW2, I wonder why... On the subject of redundancies and layoffs, project managers were probably some of the people who got canned. I think the programmers and artists are more likely to be transferred to different projects, but maybe not all will make the cut. |

Arenanet can be hiring yet still laying off, for example they might need a new janitor but they might be ridding of a dozen programers. Not to of course say that is happening, just a good note that layoffs doesn't nessisarily mean they might not be hiring at all either. |

The same thing kind of happened when they closed Lineage in the west too. Only it was a smaller team and most of those got redistributed to other projects. I'm not sure if NCK is just that bad to work for or NCWest is just that poorly run, but they always seem to have some sort of problem.

Anyone who thinks GW2 is doing poorly financially is kidding themselves. They won't financially fail until they release an unsuccessful expansion.

Let's take this in different direction, shall we?
Which of their games, do you think is the LEAST important for them in the west? Idk that, but what I DO know is that nothing is to touch ArenaNet(even if they have to shut Down the whole NCWest, they'd do that before touching ArenaNet{and that'd be a smart choice}). Maybe Lineage 2? Aion? Anyhow, I Like NC politics on f2p subject(Aion/GW/GW 2/L2{I think it is}). Really fun games for really low price. Now who wouldn't Like that(as opposed to, say, modern Blizzard-really boring/copy pasta games for really High price)? Hehehe...  |

It may have been a strategic decision, given who they are aligned with now. NCSoft is big in the Far East and the US market is a drop in the bucket compared to that. Given that B&S was at 42 million just for the 3rd quarter alone in the Far East market, it seems to me that is what they are banking on along with Firefall and GW2.
