For me there's only been two titles that I found to be not just good, but truly great.

- Legend of Grimrock, an old-school type dungeon crawler game with modern graphics.

- XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a reimagining of the classic strategy and tactics UFO: Enemy Unknown / XCOM: UFO Defense.

What games came out this year and managed to truly tickle you guys' nerdhood?

To each their own but I think GW2 is great.

TSW, ultimate No.1 of the year, biggest positive surprise in a long time.

Everything else was a disappointment.. well, except XCOM.

Oh and Firefall looks like it will be a great 2013 game.

Farcry 3 (good to have a friend in euro to send a copy :D) is thus far great. I find it more fun than vanilla Skyrim (not as much as my modded version) back when it first came out. If it is mod compatible, and someone makes a hardcore survival mod (to make it more like STALKER)...easily GOTY for me. Still tons of fun though. Played about 6 hours of it thus far. 

However, the story and voice acting in Farcry 3 are amazing. Great characters too. And there is no malaria to ruin the whole game. 

Halo 4(XBOX 360), Assasin Creed 3(PS3), Guild Wars 2(PC), and Madden on my Vita though it is the only game I got( got the bundle for 150 from a friend). I'll also throw in Bastion and Angry Birds Star Wars edition on my Iphone 4s, it was a tie pretty much.

Borderlands 2 for my ps3 was really good, NBA 2K13 for xobx 360 I digg it as well, an TSW, also for it to be a sub game I'd recommend it, just like GW2, TSW is different from the norm, how ever sometimes different isn't always better, for me [gameplay] wise it's really good and different from the norm, and another contender for PC games is Planet Side 2 for me.

I plan on trying out XCOM sometime this year, I got the demo downloaded on my PS3, but I have yet been able to try it out. 

Edited: Oh and saw Souldrainer's post, wondering if Dishonored is good, previews look nice, I might try it on Xbox 360.
