I'd wait.

The game is completely re-built, so you'll need an entirely new client anyways.

They might let us pre-load the game before official launch.

The old servers for 1.0 where brought up, but I think for those that subbed till the end, the ARR servers are up but for those in the alpha, if you apply you may get in to the next wave tommorow, there is also the beta which shouldnt be hard to get into, possibly next month .

I applied for Alpha but haven't gotten an invite. I'm certainly going to be keeping an eye on out in, 1.0 was a HUGE let down for me because I wanted an MMORPG which brought back the fun and challange of the original Final Fantasy XI pre-level 99 stuff. I know a lot of people want it, now we just gotta see if they deliver it.

In the meantime I'll fire up crappy 1.0 and just poke things with my lowbie lancer.

I really wish I had given XI more of a chance right now, trying to assess how well Yoshida has done with ARR, and all I have to judge it on is how much better it will be than XIV 1.0, and how is stacks next to your average western or Korean fantasy mmo, but a lot of other people have XI as a standard and other than grind grouping I am not sure what features it had that ARR should borrow from. (ARR has exp chains so grinding is meant to be viable)

Some of the things I really wish to see in an MMORPG like the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy XI:

• No ( ! ) marks over NPCs head, this really does kill the imersion for me.
• Cities and towns are well fleshed out and have a unique feeling to them.
• Monsters are very, very difficult for new players. But the longer you play, the easier things get.
• MACROS are easy to make and use.
• Parties are vastly important.
• Leveling takes time and effort.
• Classes are vastly unique and fun to play.
• Monster ANIMATIONS need to be wonderful rich. This was the most underappeciated of FFXI's features.
• Story Quest Lines were absolutely Epic and some of the best experiences I've played in any MMO - Especially Chains of Promathian, pretty much FFXI's best expansion ever.
• Limit Break Level limiters.
• Unlocking new classes were fun and interesting.
• Unlocking abilities for your classes were fun and interesting.

Thing  Ididn't like about FFXI

• Everyone feeling they absolutely HAD to have the BEST pieces of armor and without you were WORTHLESS.
• The best Notorious Monsters had 24 hour respawn.
• JAPANESE SERVERS!!!! WHY SQUARE WHY!!!!!!!!!!
• Too dependant on Paladins and White Mages late game.
• The Economy was harsh and too brutal.
• Level 71 Limit break was HARD because it forced you to play ENTIRELY different to the way you've been playing for 70 levels!
• Couldn't unlock special classes until level 30.
• No PVP.
• You never got to see the dragoon actually jump, they just vanished.
• Merit Point System.

You could PvP in the begining there was ..... i cant remember the name you would go to a zone like Pashaw Marshlands and group up in teams then dig for rocks and try to score points wile the other team tries to stop you by PvP . Later they made a zone with a similar game on a beach setting that you could reserve but people just PvP there. My FFXI LS would have PvP events everyone would put in 25k and it was devided between 1 , 2 , and 3rd place winners.

I HATED the 71 Maat fight . My first Chr was a rdm and ohh man took me a wile. But my 2nd chr was a Blu and fighting Rubhan WAS THE WORST! But after you do it you feel like you can take on Genbu Solo lol . I miss the sence of pride when getting things done like SEA no lie it took me little over 3 months to get Access to SEA . i will never forget that stupid mountain climb and the Alpha Omega fight was really fun
