The difference is SWTOR needs 500K subs to break even. TSW does not, and has not yet gone F2P, meaning they are surviving nicely on their monthly fee

SWG killed SWTOR as a P2P WOW like MMO with millions of subs. SWTOR can never live up to SWGs awesomeness. Now EA are killing SWTOR dead through lack of support as not getting the expected millions of subs.

Also given that its been an hour and ive havent been able to even play the game 5 minuites. if this lag continues and is the same for anyone else. i wont be suprised if they lose more subs.

TOR went F2P after almost a year.  We still have to wait to see if TSW has the same fate, since it's only about 5 months old.

first i want to say i hate you, i saw you here in mmorpg forums of swtor trolling all the time, second SWTOR doesn't need 500k subs anymore. with the F2P shop  EA is getting money each minut, that means they can survive with less than 500k and get money from F2P shop

Here is an official statement straight from the horses mouth of EA on 1st Aug following the F2P announcement

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19077238

The President of EA Labels Frank Gibeau said the Star Wars game would still break even so long as it maintained 500,000 subscribers, but admitted that its current performance was "not good enough".

Have you got a link to something after that to say they do not need 500K subs any more?

Check on your side as I do not experience any lag. And I am in game right now,

man man, can you think please? that was before F2P came out. they don't need anymore, they haven't said we need 500k again. that means swtor doesn't need for survive, they can get more money with the F2P shop. i have a friend who spent 200 dolars in the first day lol

That was before F2P. If you would hear the constant pop up of cartel boxes on fleet, which drives me nuts because I want to open next one, you would know that they are getting a lot of money from F2P

In fact their comment from Livestream Event was

The numbers have blown away our expectations, which means good things for the players and the game.

Edit: considering that I spent over $300 so far and I am not the only one LOL - they are getting nice profit from F2P.

I said after the F2P announcement not it being in game

THat is the whole point it going F2P as subs were not getting it. They still need the equivalent of 500K subs from F2P, otherwise if it did not need that many, it would not have gone F2P

It shows where the priorities are for sure.  "far out in the future" for space combat, "no time frame" on makeb, but we can look forward to new shop items weekly and new gambling packs monthly.  I guess it doesn't matter about space combat anymore anyway, the statement about the cathar's success in the item shop determining wether or not we will ever see new races again (which makes it clear that any more races that are introduced will also be item shop exclusive) was the thousandth cut for me.

I know some people are fine with this and I guess thats your right.  Doesn't make what they are doing to their customers ethical or smart in the long run.

Did you log in? Game is packed with players. On the Ebon Hawk it seems to be the same amount of players right now at heavy as it was week or two ago on full. Possible that they adjust the caps on servers. Neverless there are always less people playing on weekdays comparing with weekends in any game.

They didnt adjust anything, you very well know when servers go to near full they start ...chocking...with all kinds of side-effects.

It hasnt been noted for a while now.

It does exist!!!!!!!!

Q: How is the super space project doing? Does it exist?

Schubert: Oh, it exists.

Hickman: I was actually playing what you're talking about yesterday, running through the prototype demo. I wish I could give you details. It's great. It's a departure from our current space game. We have a team dedicated to working on it. But it is far out in the future. You won't hear anything about it any time soon.

Schubert: It is under wraps. It is a lot of fun. It's definitely not anything we've shipped in the original product.

BioWare Livestream Q&A Coverage from today

Damion Schubert (Lead Designer), Jeff Hickman (Producer), and Joveth Gonzalez (Community) are present for the Q&A

xD I remember hearing this same thing about SWTOR back in 2007...So I'm not sure I will trust a devs oppinion, I'll wait for some player reviews from people who won't sugar coat it.

[mod edit]

Of course. 500K subs can be a combination of subs and whatever comes in the cash shop. So if they get 300K subs plus the cash shop gets the equivalent of 200k subs then all is good. They basically need $7.5 million per month.

Sorry, I did not make myself clear. I just lumped it all as 500K subs

Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
SWG killed SWTOR as a P2P WOW like MMO with millions of subs. SWTOR can never live up to SWGs awesomeness. Now EA are killing SWTOR dead through lack of support as not getting the expected millions of subs.

I read it the same way you did. Their statement is just marketing fluff to keep people hoping against hope. While "never" is never a good word to use (pun intended), I would guess that for the space revamp to get adequate budget to make it a reality, the game would need to hit or exceed sales projections.

They probably saw that there is a market for space sim style games after Star Citizen managed to claim 6.5 million in crowd funding to finish developing their space game.

If done right, space project could lead to expanding land on the planets we already have.
