Have you got a link to something after that to say they do not need 500K subs any more? Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012 |

Originally posted by superniceguy man man, can you think please? that was before F2P came out. they don't need anymore, they haven't said we need 500k again. that means swtor doesn't need for survive, they can get more money with the F2P shop. i have a friend who spent 200 dolars in the first day lol |

Originally posted by superniceguy That was before F2P. If you would hear the constant pop up of cartel boxes on fleet, which drives me nuts because I want to open next one, you would know that they are getting a lot of money from F2P In fact their comment from Livestream Event was The numbers have blown away our expectations, which means good things for the players and the game.
Edit: considering that I spent over $300 so far and I am not the only one LOL - they are getting nice profit from F2P.

Originally posted by Sevenstar61 I said after the F2P announcement not it being in game THat is the whole point it going F2P as subs were not getting it. They still need the equivalent of 500K subs from F2P, otherwise if it did not need that many, it would not have gone F2P Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012 |

It shows where the priorities are for sure. "far out in the future" for space combat, "no time frame" on makeb, but we can look forward to new shop items weekly and new gambling packs monthly. I guess it doesn't matter about space combat anymore anyway, the statement about the cathar's success in the item shop determining wether or not we will ever see new races again (which makes it clear that any more races that are introduced will also be item shop exclusive) was the thousandth cut for me. I know some people are fine with this and I guess thats your right. Doesn't make what they are doing to their customers ethical or smart in the long run.

Originally posted by lucasdeis Of course. 500K subs can be a combination of subs and whatever comes in the cash shop. So if they get 300K subs plus the cash shop gets the equivalent of 200k subs then all is good. They basically need $7.5 million per month. Sorry, I did not make myself clear. I just lumped it all as 500K subs Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012 |

Originally posted by Veldekar I read it the same way you did. Their statement is just marketing fluff to keep people hoping against hope. While "never" is never a good word to use (pun intended), I would guess that for the space revamp to get adequate budget to make it a reality, the game would need to hit or exceed sales projections. |

They probably saw that there is a market for space sim style games after Star Citizen managed to claim 6.5 million in crowd funding to finish developing their space game.

If done right, space project could lead to expanding land on the planets we already have.
