Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft' might win, by fearing to attempt

It's the very nature of most mmorpg questing that I find boring and predictible, not how easily accessible the walkthroughs are. If it were that easy, I could just avoid the walkthroughs and have a good time. I just find myself enjoying mmorpgs that have very few, if any, quests... much more than quest driven atmospheres. So I would have to say no, blocking acessibilty to walkthroguhs would not help me enjoy a game any more than i already do :(

People really look at Google for quest help? That is stupid. All you do is exactly what the quest tells you to do. If you can't figure that out then you should stick to board games. I've never looked up a quest before.

Be Brief, Be Bright... Be Gone.

The last time I googled quests (other than finding out where to get a quest from) was in TSW for two reasons.

1.  Several quests were bugged.  I couldn't tell if I was doing it wrong or it was a bug.

2.  The Morse Code Quest.  Not only do I not know morse code but even when I found a site that had translations, the silly radio thing was going to fast for me to hear the beeps and pauses clearly.

Quit worrying about other players in a game and just play.

It is usually in SWTOR when I am trying to figure out how to get to some of the holocrons. So, it is usually within a few hours after trying and about the time I am ready to throw the laptop out of the upstairs window.

in old school games yes, but sometimes a new system may evolve where that might not be possible... ;)

Such system will never exists, unless quests will be randomly generated and never repeat. You're forgeting that people are the main factor in this. People are posting "quest objectives", solutions, places, etc. on the most different places on net so it's kinda impossible to prevent it.

Is it really impossible? I challenge your statement and provide few answers

1. random quest name

2. random npc names that spawn

3. random locations for npc

4. random objectives

What could you possible google if such system above created quest? What could you chat about in public chat even?

Conversely, how bad would most of those quests completely suck.

I think you, personally, are only going to understand the issue once you try to create what you are talking about. It's clear you believe in your idea. My advice to you is to protoype it in GameMaker or something and actually see it in action.

The "google the quest" problem is completely overblown, if it is good content it does not matter if you know the answers.

We just got used to quests that take 20 minutes without a guide or 2 with one, if quests took 4 hours without a guide and an hour with one,  and would be entertaining and meaningful, not just a 4578th exp stepping stone towards endgame, the problem would go away on its own.

Flame on!

Why would anyone need to google anything? MMOs are so stupid and easy...

If you hit "M", the quest marker literally tells you where to go in just about every MMO out there. It's lame.

Yes of course! I use google or anything only in about 1%. If you need help you can ask people ingame.

"See how I reward those who fail me!"

It's a nonfactor for me. Less than 5% of quests are problematic I find, so if one couldn't Google them you'd just have to either spend a little more time on them or just skip them. I don't see an issue with having to to this when the need would be so rare.

Mostly asking in chat you'll often get a respone from someone who did them already anyway.

Why anyone would even suspect this to be a problem for anyone in the first place is beyond me.

I have almost come to hating spoiler sites..  IMHO, they are a major ingrediant on why gaming communities are so hostile and vile anymore.. Back in the day when I started playing EQ, there was no spoiler sites, we didnt' have maps and yes, we still used PHONE LINES to log in.... There were many times as a newcomer, I had asked questions and was helped by 80% of the community.. As I leveled and became more experience, I began helping others without hesitation..  I can't count how many times as a druid, I healed strangers, buffed them, escorted them. etc etc just because it was the social and rpg thing to do..

Googling everything has made people less social and less dependant on a community..  Every man out for themself I guess..  Shame we have allowed gaming to head that direction.. :(

Many don't play games for the social and help others. It is for the challenge, for the combat, for the epleen.

Modern MMOs just let them be what they are.

And googling is a lot more efficient than trying to ask in a chat channel. There is a reason why spoiler sites are so popular. I am no problem using spoiler sites to do item research and plan my acqusition, and purchase.

Its up to the individual to determine if they need help or not  You need to have more self control to know when to say no, this sounds like a problem for alot of people.  Its similar to having a cheat mode in single player game and using it to get past a really tough part, some will use it and some will not.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

I want an mmorpg where pvp matters, my enemies are not my race or class, and community matters.

I wouldn't have even asked this.  Personally, I never got why a quest should grant so much more xp than killing oodles of mobs.  I would imagine that the act of killing in and of itself helps to improve one's skill.  Killing monsters a hero makes...not working for Fed Ex.

I miss being able to relax and just burn down mobs.  Being forced to run all over a map and read mediocre storylines is just abysmal and why folks like me will never grind 90 levels in World of Warcraft, or any other game for that matter.

Is it really Google that's the enemy?  How about creating quests or dungeons that aren't completely dumbed down?  If they're interesting enough to solve on your own, more people might do it.  I seem to remember this old series called Ultima...
