A sandbox is just the way a game world is built. It is strange that some people think it can't have levels (I would prefer it not to though). Basically you aren't hand held, you can make your own fun and actually affect things going on in the game world to some extent. Where as a themepark is a solid world that you don't truly ever affect except maybe in the auction house. Sandboxes could have quests, its just it would be your choice to take them or not. I think the major problem here is everyone thinks sandboxes have to follow all of these other stupid and silly little rules (even if I do agree with many of them as it would be fun for me). Some argue a sandbox has to have PvP, it doesnt, some argue it has to have a death penalty, well it doesn't. Sandbox and Themepark are descriptors for the way to interact with the world, not player progression mechanics. |
