Lots of times I play games because the characters do things that aren't possible in real life. Weapon based fighting we have in the real world, you could do fencing or re-enactment groups. I like throwing fireballs, probably why I lean toward casters, what they do seems so different to what you can do in combat in the real world. The only part that might intrigue me is political mechanics of feudal societies if that was in place. If I played the sort of character that owned land put laws on it, that would make me look at it but if it's just sword fighting - bleh. I agree, but "so many medievil mmos?" there aren't actually ANY mmo's with guenine historic medieval theme such as mount and blade, they are all just fantasy bullshit with monsters etc.

Don't have anything against creation of such mmorpg, but I am not especially interested in one also.

Realistic medieval games such as British, Greek or Japanese are too boring for me. I would only play them if they used their famous mythology/writer in the game. I don't care if I'm trojans fighting spartans, or a templar, or a samurai. The things I want in games are a famous writer's (f.ex. Tolkien) fantasy in a game. Or all of their myths actually living; being real in the game. But a Samurai class would be awesome in any of the current popular mmorpgs. |

It would need a bit of thought to make such game to not be just a japanese mmo which only class is "warrior" and the only weapon is a katana/no-dachi

Would be great if the Samurai or any other Medieval MMO combat gameplay are done by Clang. Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language :) |

How about take your samurai MMO and add in factions for other parts of the world. That's what I mean my limited in scope. A samurai MMO would have everyone of one race and visual aesthetic. TOO LIMITED for my tastes. It makes sense as an expansion or starting area. |

Originally posted by FrodoFragins I wouldn't equate race with scope. That's just one factor. I wouldn't care what race you had the option of being, if the world was large, the gameplay was robust, and there was a lot of content. |

Originally posted by gene548 What I was getting at was adding in fantasy elements to the reality, same as typical fantasy MMOs are western type society then adding in our versions of fantasy/myth. There is plenty to drawn on there, other races like say Hengeyokai. Other classes such as Monks, Sohei, Wu Jen, etc.. It doesn't have to all be one race, one class was my point. Western society aren't the only ones with stories and fantasy races that were dreamed up. But I do think if you had the right players just one race and everyone being variant types of Samurai would work too. |

the problem with a samurai game it will be that when some1 shouts ''ninja'' we wonder if he is talking for a ninja class or a ninja looter :))

I find the combat movements at advanced levels in Vendetta Online closely mirror Aikido (just my opinion ofc. It could have something to do with the physics and the circular motion, and the fact that I grew up in Japan) There was a feudal Japan MMORPG supposedly in development called Tatsumaki: Land at War, but I think it turned out to be vaporware. /2c "To be what you are not, experience what you are not." -Saint John of the Cross |
